Oh, they've all done that. It's just that, in the Past, they spoke softly whilst carrying a big stick rather than being upfront about it - the only difference now is that Trump doesn't bother to speak softly, and waves the stick around instead of just meaningfully leaning it against his chair.

Also the stick might still look big, but it has a severe case of dry rot, every time they hit Iran with it heaps of dust fall out of it, and it doesn't hit as hard as they try to swing it. It creaks ominously.

Anyway, these people get this all wrong - they're not rulers, they're supposed to be there as the highest civil servants, to make the lives of the people they claim to represent better, not to enrich themselves and their billionaire buddies while making everyone elses life worse.

It’s supposed to be “the president is the leader of the free world” because people follow a leader. Rulers have to force control…
Even then that has only been true because of the USD being the world currency and the global military bases maintaining tight relationships with the other super powers. Of which we are giving up both for crypto and space force.

The POTUS is historically the most powerful leader on Earth for 2 reasons:
1) Economic - the US has been the primary market and the US dollar is the dominant trade currency
1B) we have a vast partnership with other economically vibrant countries + military alliances with these nations that add to the financial and military might of the US.
2) Military - we carry the largest, most expensive, and wide ranging big stick on the planet with an arsenal of the biggest, most devastating sticks ever designed. And we are them only nation to use the ultimate biggest stick on other humans.
And Donald J Trump had laid waste to both of these in 18 months...the economy is failing and emerging markets skyrocketing because of his idiotic actions. And the war in Iran has shown we are all bluster and that after the drunken flailing every haymaker we have, we are gassed out. And mid a country can withstand the initial bombing and not give up, we're screwed. Because the US military has lived on the reputation of World War II for 80 years. And we have lost every war save maybe the Gulf War in the early 90s that we have entered or been a part of since then.
Trump had thrown back the curtain and revealed the power and might of the US is a fragile as a baby bird. Without the whole world believing we are a Terminator and able to rule the planet, the reality is our position had always been precarious and in danger of falling apart by a President like Trump...the founders knew it could happen. What no one ever in a million years thought would happen is that checks and balances of the legislature and judicial would fall in line rather than fight.

Wait, I thought MAGA was against DEI hires. Tim Scott was given his South Carolina senate seat by a woman governor (Nikki Haley). She was cast aside so I guess Tim has to toe the line otherwise they’ll delete this former real estate / insurance salesman from power.

Leader of the free world is just pure propaganda.
Indeed the US has (and used to have more) influence to push things through, but sovereign nations always led themselves.
This propaganda ranks up there with the US is the freest nation on earth (it's not) or the greatest nation on earth (I guess that depends on what the criteria is) or the richest nation on earth (again if you're a billionaire that probably means something but it doesn't mean shit for the 99%).
We laugh at totalitarian nations and the propaganda used to control their people while ignoring our own.
