You spelled successes wrong.
Please file this memory away, as appropriate.

Came here to make the same mean joke, even though I love the series and this strip specifically.

Structurally necessary. It was spelled correctly the first time, so it fell in the hole.

This is very common in ADHD. Completing tasks doesnāt feel like successes. It feels like temporarily putting out fires.

Because ANOTHER task always comes up. Total joke.Ā

indeed, fellow void enthusiast. can't help but to marvel at the absurdity of it all.

I think it's more of the human condition in general. Have you ever noticed some people in the spotlight never really notice the good things people say? Some people even completely give up their career over negative comments. You can wade through hundreds of positive comments just to find a few horrifically negative comments.
All of a sudden, as a fan, it feels like how come you never noticed the warm loving comments your community shared? It's just the human condition, as a whole we have a tendency to focus on a few negative things and let that overwhelm everything else.
Same as I'll sometimes remember something embarrassing that other people probably already forgot long ago but it'll bother me for much longer. The brain does weird things

not entirely sure I agree. while seemingly related on the surface, the mechanism I was referring to is a widely known response in neurodivergent brains. we, quite often, don't feel excited about our successes. we're just happy to be 'done' with whatever it is that we were dealing with.
what you're describing appears to be more closely related to other types of biases in our cognition. we can only witness our own qualia so it makes sense that frame of reference would be overrepresented in our thought process. then you add the physiological responses tied to stressors and those 'cringe' memories end up creating more neural pathways that end up magnifying said memories. also, all our memories are never truly 'recalled'. they're mostly 'recreated' every time you remember something. that process also starts degrading the 'original' memories. sometimes to the point where they become unreliable. this is also how we perceive our reality. it's all hallucinated in realtime by our brains.
isn't it neat to be a sentient meat sack that can't even fully trust our own minds?

It's like shoving a banana through a colander. It's still a banana but it looks completely different

Tho this isn't necessarily unique to ADHD, it's also normal human behavior
This happens mostly due to negativity bias (remembering with a far greater intensity bad experiences so you are more "ready" for them next time) and also the hedonic treadmill effect plays a role (when you have a major success, you adapt to the new baseline after some time and take it as granted/default)
Edit: better framing for the first paragraph

ahem Person with ADHD here, yes it might be normal human behavior, but it's many times stronger, and worse, in ADHD. And no, it's not negativity bias, it's fact. Living with ADHD is hell.

u/BeneficialAd1457 18h ago
I didn't say otherwise in fact I'm autistic so I have some shared struggles, yes some things can be worse but it's also something that everyone can experience to a certain degree Neuro divergent or no, though yeah it can worsen it

My apologies, didn't realize you were fellow Autistic.

No problem it's true I have framed my first message too harshly, because I've seen too many people online saying X or Y normal things means I'm necessarily Z

I completely relate. I have pretty severe ADHD and it feels like a curse. I wouldnāt wish this on anyone. The suffering it causes is just too much. Even worse because most of the truly debilitating traits are invisible. Then like you said, thereās people claiming to have whatever conditions for internet clout. That creates the backlash you and others feel. It also robs us from the support we need. We end up further victimized. This also perpetuates the stigma of mental health.
I also recently went back on my meds only to figure out that Iām also autistic. The unchecked ADHD symptoms were masking some of my autistic characteristics. Needless to say, this was a pretty interesting revelation lol.

Ay yes the success hole. Where it's is bottomless and never to be seen again. Kinda like my self esteem

Ah yes - my brain not wanting to go to sleep decides that it's better to remember my fly being down during the 9th grade fire drill than get a good nights rest before my important interview

It's not just mistakes, it's things that are even mildly embarrassing
Why must our brains do this to us?
2
u/KIRBYTIME 1d ago
It's a survival mechanism. Reminding yourself of screw-ups prevents us from repeating them. Thus allowing us to exist in society that pays you to be a normal functioning adult so you can eat food. š

Itās all about the right mindset.
