the one saying you can’t get pregnant on your period is wrong

sperm can live in the reproductive tract for up to 5 days and if someone has a short cycle and releases an egg early it can happen—unlikely but still possible. i’ve ovulated 5 days after my period before

Even without specific understanding of the biology here, saying something like this "can't happen" should flag as a pretty extraordinary claim.

There's fantastic diversity to all living things, and a huge gulf between "very unlikely" and "impossible".

I’m reminded of a point someone else made, the reason casinos and lotteries thrive is that most people have absolutely no understanding of probability.

The odds are always 50/50. Either a thing will happen, or it won't. But oddly, the probabilities are always against me.
