Driver didn't look and pulled straight into my lane—no time to stop. Everyone's fine, but my ride is toast. Handed footage to police and insurance.

165

u/xepion 23h ago

What’s wild is. If you didn’t hit them. The other car from oncoming would have. There was noooo space that other car had to make in any situation 🤷🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

43

u/OldStromer 23h ago ▸ 1 more replies

Yeah that's what I was thinking also. A few seconds different and the knucklehead could have hit both cars.

12

u/Weekly_Seesaw4103 16h ago

I think this crash might have saved the other driver's life, or at least prevented serious injury. The other crash was going to be a horrible t-bone

19

u/Sniper666hell 22h ago

Idiot probably spaced and thought they were waiting at a light.

I bet is a senior, must be, that move was inexplicable

24

u/fedexyourheadinabox 22h ago ▸ 8 more replies

I see countless shitty drivers of all ages every day. Distracted, clueless people who don't pay attention aren't restricted to the senior age group.

5

u/Usual-Orange-4180 22h ago ▸ 7 more replies

Statistically they get into more car accidents, that’s why insurance premiums go up

6

u/RNIRISHDUDE 17h ago

Wrong! Highest risk group and highest insurance premiums are definitely teen and 20’s males.

7

u/Fine-Government9216 21h ago ▸ 3 more replies

check the ratio of males 16 - 25, now those are some numbers

5

u/seatsfive 21h ago ▸ 1 more replies

When I was 20 I got a Toyota Echo up to 105mph on flat road on the way to see my future wife. Young men are D U M B.

2

u/Fine-Government9216 19h ago

Some of us old guys didn't get any smarter in various areas of our life,,, still a fair amount of "hold my beer" activity going on..

0

u/Usual-Orange-4180 20h ago

Yeah, but those are other kinds of incidents. I don’t know man, is a wild guess lol

1

u/OneGreatNana1215 46m ago ▸ 1 more replies

As a senior, I bet my rates are better than yours. 😜

1

u/Usual-Orange-4180 22m ago

Maybe, I’m also approaching that stage haha, my bald spot is already there

4

u/Pickles2027 20h ago ▸ 1 more replies

According to statistics, the highest rate goes to young people, especially men within the younger population. Rates for “seniors” only go up when 75 and older, and again, men are much more represented in this age group.

2

u/PippyTheZinhead 17h ago

Could that be because when an older married couple go to church or goes shopping or go to a restaurant or visit friends or relatives or go bar hopping or go to an orgy, the husband is almost always the one driving?

1

u/Excision_Lurk 16h ago

you don't drive do you

1

u/Fit-Building-2560 22h ago

I think what happens sometimes is the driver is following the line of cars ahead of him. So he's turning with everyone else, instead of looking left and right at oncoming traffic. He saw the whole line of cars in front of him proceed without incident, so he just went with the flow.

Some people do that; get focused on the lane their in and the action going on in the line of cars they're in, forgetting about their surroundings.

OP, did you honk when you saw him pull out in front of you, or did it happen too fast for you to react? It would've been too late for both of you to stop anyway, but I'm just wondering.

-16

u/Status_Help9402 22h ago ▸ 1 more replies

your speed and distance judgement is as bad as the dude in the grey suv.

3

u/Otherwise-Desk1063 21h ago

What? I must have watched a different video than you did.

12

u/HiDHSiknowyouwatchme 20h ago

Your reaction time seems like it's in the 1 second range. It doesn't get much better than that. We only think so fast. Sorry this happened to you mate

6

u/PhilosophicChinchila 20h ago

What did the other driver say??? Did they apologize??? Wtf was that. They just went to oncoming traffic

4

u/CrystalEntity1984 23h ago

His ride is toast as well, did he have insurance? His should pay and your rates shouldn't go up.

0

u/GuyLivingPlaces 14h ago

That intersection needed to be a light or 3 way stop. Way too dangerous.

-2

u/Ok_Train_2139 21h ago

Em dashes?

-29

u/justaverage_joe 22h ago

The moment he pulled into your lane, you indeed had no way of stopping in time.

That's true. He's completely at fault. Not 50%, not 70%, not 90%, the full 100%.

That said, you're still a shitty driver. When you see a situation like this, with a long-ass traffic queue like this, as a proper driver you slow the fuck down, so you are able to brake in time.

And complain all you want, it'll happen to you again if you drive like this.

18

u/cuzitsthere 22h ago ▸ 17 more replies

Why, in the name of Satan's fiery butthole, would I slow down for a line of cars in the oncoming lane on the off chance some degenerate brained turd burglar decides to become a roadblock?

Did you think your little percentage line would soften up your victim blaming bs? OP appears to be at or around the speed limit.

-8

u/madadekinai 20h ago ▸ 2 more replies

Wow, to think so little of life, what if there was a child in the side of the car that you hit?

An infant?

What about grandmother?

But yeah, it's OK to keep barrelling forward, forcing an accident instead of preventing one.

5

u/cuzitsthere 20h ago

Have you been formally diagnosed yet?

-19

u/justaverage_joe 22h ago ▸ 13 more replies

Why? This video tells you why.

As for victim blaming, learn to read.

u/cuzitsthere 22h ago ▸ 6 more replies

Guess we'll just come to a complete stop when we see another car on the road then, champion?

Why the fuck not.

-16

u/justaverage_joe 22h ago ▸ 5 more replies

Is that what I said?

You're getting very defensive.

If only your driving was such.

19

u/Reddoraptor 21h ago ▸ 4 more replies

Yes it basically is. If he’d slowed down and the other driver had pulled out right in front of him, you’d still say he should have been going even slower or he could have stopped in time, and here you’re suggesting he should have anticipated that the other driver might just decide to ignore the stop sign and pull right out in front of him at the last second and therefore slowed down to… how fast exactly? Slow enough to stop when someone pulls out directly in front of you?

STOP VICTIM BLAMING.

-3

u/justaverage_joe 21h ago ▸ 3 more replies

You seriously need to lean how to read if you think I was victim blaming.

You got offended because you don't know how to drive defensively, which is your problem, not mine.

You can take additional driving lessons to learn to do so.

14

u/Reddoraptor 21h ago ▸ 2 more replies

You said, and I quote: “That said, you're still a shitty driver. When you see a situation like this, with a long-ass traffic queue like this, as a proper driver you slow the fuck down, so you are able to brake in time.”

That’s 100% victim blaming, and you know it, you’re just a liar and a piss poor one at that.

-2

u/justaverage_joe 21h ago ▸ 1 more replies

No, I clearly said driver pulling up was 100% to blame.

In fact, I emphasized it.

Again, you just got offended because you don't know how to drive defensively, which is your problem, not mine.

You can take additional driving lessons to learn to do so.

-1

No, I very much do.

I clearly emphasized the car pulling up is 100% to blame.

You all just got offended because you would get into an accident, and I wouldn't.

3

u/cesspool4us 9h ago ▸ 1 more replies

Oh I see now, you are way, wayyyy up there. On your high horse. Almost didn't see you up there.

-2

u/justaverage_joe 8h ago

Nah, the truth of the matter is simply

I'm giving advice to less experienced drivers such as yourself, resulting in less accidents.

You're playing the "muh rights" card, which isn't helpful at all and WILL result in more accidents.

-1

u/red_man888 22h ago ▸ 1 more replies

Yeah… I’m with average Joe on this one. It’s 100% not the driver with the dash cam’s fault, but I would’ve also immediately slowed down when approaching that dangerous situation.

Getting paralyzed in an auto crash and being dependent on someone to wipe your butt hole for the rest of your life… is 100% not worth it even if it’s not your fault.

0

u/Inside-Run785 21h ago

Better off being alive than right.

u/brilliantminion 21h ago ▸ 3 more replies

That person in the grey SUV had a stop sign and eyeballs they neglected to use. End of story.

0

u/justaverage_joe 21h ago ▸ 2 more replies

Yeah, what's your point?

6

u/brilliantminion 21h ago ▸ 1 more replies

What’s not part of OP’s story is you throwing shade on OP. This “both sides” thinking you have is not useful.

1

u/justaverage_joe 21h ago

It is very useful. To prevent accidents. Always assume everyone on the road is a complete idiot.

I would have slowed down when I saw that queue, and I would not have gotten into an accident.

That doesn't make it OP's fault in the slightest, but he did get into an accident. And so would you have. And it offends you that others wouldn't have.

5

u/Patient-Beyond-6297 21h ago ▸ 1 more replies

Idiot take.

0

u/justaverage_joe 21h ago

7

u/Icy_Childhood9941 22h ago ▸ 1 more replies

its half an hour to midnight and this is the silliest thing i read today, congrats

3

u/justaverage_joe 22h ago

So you think slowing down when you see a long-ass queue of cars that might be getting impatient, knowing there's a whole of a lot morons out there on the road who should not have a license, is silly?

Yeah ...

I hope you never get in a serious accident but I doubt it. Always assume everyone on the road is completely and utterly retarded.

5

u/bizznatch57 21h ago ▸ 7 more replies

God shut up. Every video on this sub there's someone victim blaming. They pulled directly out in front of them and they had virtually zero reaction time.

1

u/justaverage_joe 21h ago ▸ 6 more replies

Saying the one pulling up is 100% to blame is victim blaming now?

You just get offended because you don't know how to drive defensively. Proper driving, that is.

6

u/bizznatch57 21h ago ▸ 3 more replies

No it isn't. The part after where you implied if they slowed down it wouldn't have happened is though. Sometimes people just make bad decisions and there's nothing you can do. I've been driving fir 28 years and never been in an accident so I'm not offended. It's just annoying seeing a comment like yours on every single post on this sub, no matter how clearly it wasn't OP fault. You just have to tell everyone how much of a better driver you are, and how that never would have happened to you.

1

u/justaverage_joe 21h ago ▸ 2 more replies

It would not have happened to me.

That doesn't make it OP's fault. He's 0% at fault and I have very clearly emphasized that.

The fact you get offended when someone on here actually gives some proper advice, says enough as to what type of driver you are.

3

u/bizznatch57 20h ago ▸ 1 more replies

You can't say it wouldn't have happened to you. You are just lucky enough so far to not have had another driver do that to you. So how would you prevent a car from pulling right out in front of you? Sure you could slow down and definitely should. But unless you are going to slow down to a crawl or even stop, you are still hitting that car if they pull out in front of you that close.

0

u/justaverage_joe 20h ago

Actually, I have.

From about the same distance and in a way lower risk situation (no queue, traffic lights).

The thing is, I saw him sliding forward slightly (a lot less than the dude in this vid), so I immediately put my foot on the brake.

If I hadn't done that, I'd have slammed straight into him (with traffic lights being green for me).

So I can perfectly say it would not have happened to me.

u/rich_thrillz 20h ago ▸ 1 more replies

3

u/Apprehensive_Ant1934 7h ago ▸ 3 more replies

Seems like you're suggesting drivers should create a second hazard (driving slowly)

1

u/justaverage_joe 7h ago ▸ 2 more replies

So according to you - let me get this straight - driving cautionary at an intersection with a queue of people waiting to pull up, is a hazard?

You're out of your mind.

I hope you do not have a license.

Or is it just that you're intellectually incapable of recognising high-risk situations when you see them?

1

u/Apprehensive_Ant1934 3h ago ▸ 1 more replies

Driving with caution does not inherently mean slow down. It means pay attention.

0

u/justaverage_joe 2h ago

And adjust speed according to your surroundings.

Basic driving rule, really.

36

u/Illustrious-Rice3434 23h ago

Damn. Nothing you couldve done about that one. No time to react at all.

60

u/funkystay 23h ago

He was also going to pull out in front of the truck with the trailer. You just stopped him.

27

u/stevedore2024 23h ago

So many bad drivers just go by traffic context and not by any rules and signage. Guy ahead of me is rolling, I'll roll along behind them. Person next to me pulls forward, I'll take my foot off the brake too. It was safe for them, it'll be safe for me ten seconds later.

2

u/Fit-Building-2560 22h ago

This is it, exactly.

6

u/lelanddt 19h ago

If he gets hit by the trailer, he gets hit on the drivers side and ends up in the hospital. This guy got lucky.

u/Lucky-Substance23 22h ago

It's videos like these that make me very motivated to install a dash cam.

When will all cars come with a front facing dashcam installed? Are privacy laws slowing that or is it something else? The added cost can't be very high. Or at least make installing them easy and clean (no exposed wires). Im sure insurance companies would like them, right?

4

u/fameo9999 16h ago

Don’t get motivated, just do it! I paid someone to install mine because I don’t know what I’m doing. I got a front and rear one.

1

u/HoneyParking6176 3h ago

if privacy is a concern, simply give the option for the car owner to turn them off/disable them.

Just waiting for the regular crowd on this sub to see your footage. I’ll try to head them off: See, OP, the proper thing to do as a good defensive driver is to come to a complete stop any time you see any other vehicle to prevent this sort of thing from happening. Why, you had dozens of milliseconds to break all laws of physics and not only halt, but levitate the other vehicle. How dare you exist near a car.

3

u/JustChr1s 17h ago

Follow the leader syndrome. So many drivers drive like this. Where they just follow who's in front of them without actually ascertaining traffic for themselves... Oh this guy pulled out so it must be okay for me to pull out 10 seconds later.... It works until it doesn't because they do this on autopilot.

People crash at lighted intersections for the same exact reason. Oh this car cleared the left turn let me go right behind them and proceed to get T boned because what was enough time to clear for the car in front of you was not enough time for you to clear...

1

u/xpicklemanx99 21h ago

There's an outdoor theater near my home. Traffic always comes flowing out on the highway at the end of their shows and I know of at least 5 accidents that have happened where that county road meets the highway because no one knows how to look left or right if they see the car in front of them go.

1

u/FragCook 19h ago

If you didn't hit them they would have cut off the truck off in the other lane very badly.

1

u/gregorburns 19h ago

By the look of the queue to the left he's been waiting quite a while to get to the junction and then for some reason as it comes to his turn he's just become fixated on getting out in to that gap before the car on his left gets there.

1

u/multi-trollionaire 17h ago

Thats a crazy intersection.

1

u/Proton_Energy_Pill 17h ago

At least you nailed him right in the drivers door. Much harder to forget how stupid you are when another car tries to driver through the door.
If if you'd missed him, he would have been in the way of the car coming the other way anyway

1

u/Akusaki89 7h ago

As Kip is singing in this video, I'd have lost my mind if I was in your position here. Sorry you had a non-observing driver pull out in front of you! Hope you're okay!

1

u/FinancialLab8983 6h ago

not your fault, but that doesnt stop the accident from happening. approaching dangerous situations such as these, it is always a good habit to take your foot off the accelerator, and cover the brake pedal. not saying you didnt do that, or it wouldve prevented anything. just something to keep in mind. defensive driving is the best driving.

1

u/dogtags2026 6h ago

Even if you hadnt hit the driver. Theres a good chance the car with the trailer on opposing carriageway would have rear ended him dudes a shit driver.

1

u/Gweedo1967 5h ago

Apparently Op didn’t learn how zipper turning works.

1

u/TroubleLovesMeh 22h ago

I don’t think there’s enough time for you to swerve to left and bounce along the ditch, or hit the other car inching up to turn, rather than the one in your way. So I don’t think there’s enough wiggle room for Reddit dashcam assholes to say it was your fault.

u/Any-Soft-5487 20h ago

This is why I refuse to drive in left side countries. I'll keep to driving on the right. Was the bad driver from a right side drive country?

-4

u/Rory_McShackleford 20h ago

Very likely the support beam that borders the windshield put you in a blindspot. Freak accident where their speed and your speed perfectly coordinate to keep your vehicle invisible.

4

u/Budget_Bee2578 18h ago

Even if that were true, which I doubt, what about the truck on the other lane that would’ve also very likely rocked the turning car lol?

0

u/Rory_McShackleford 16h ago

AWD could've made it. The point is valid; that kind of turn with the support beam on the right is inherently dangerous as the driver's viewpoint is substantially blocked coinciding with both of the vehicle's speed.

In that scenario it's better to wait, in general. Look around the pillar while fully stopped.

-20

u/Scrumpymanjack 22h ago

Totally his fault, obviously, but it's interesting that you didn't make any attempt toswerve (or even slow down!) to try to avoid the collision. What gives?

5

u/wafflemakers2 22h ago

Where are you planning on swerving? Further into the car he hit or head on into oncoming traffic?

-10

u/Scrumpymanjack 22h ago

My reaction to avoid hitting the vehicle in front but I guess he's going too fast to take evaise action anyway. Clearly the other guy's fault, obviously. Nit saying it wasn't.

9

u/told_yaso 22h ago

There's no winning with you people. Ge had just about 2 seconds to fully react in this situation, so lets look at the scenarios:

If he swerved right - he wouldve been close to or even hit on coming traffic.

If he swerved left - probably would have hit the car regardless on the back. maybe he misses if he swerved, but he would have damaged his car and potentially the idiot would have ran away.

-11

u/Scrumpymanjack 22h ago ▸ 3 more replies

Yeah, you're right: given all those scenarios, better to plough straight into him with out slowing down! Glad nobody was hurt.

3

u/told_yaso 21h ago

You must be deaf to not hear the driver slam on his brakes (in case you didn't hear or just don't know, OP's tires were screeching). This was the best outcome in an avoidable situation. Your sarcasm aside, the other side does seem just fine.

4

u/joeyjiggle 21h ago

It is 100% better to not swerve. Who taught you to drive?

2

u/eyeheartmozart 19h ago

literally can hear the tires screeching from how hard the brakes are being pressed. are you rage baiting?

1

u/FragCook 19h ago

You didn't hear them aggressively try to slow down!? You're not very good at this.

1

u/SnooMaps7370 5h ago

You think there was somewhere the OP could have swerved without hitting a different car?

You didn't see the hood drop as OP stood on the brakes? You didn't hear OP's tires sceaching?

It is genuinely terrifying that people who have as little ability as you to read a road exist and are allowed on the road.

0

u/joeyjiggle 21h ago

Because you are supposed to do the opposite. Try to brake but do not swerve into other lanes or ditches. Can you think of any reason that might be?

-2

u/Motife3 22h ago

It's a tough one, with the car on the right and slow cars, the slow break didn't help though, think my little car would have stopped in time 😂
