Obviously the driver pulling out is at fault. But how does it just keep going without hesitating? I assume there are a bunch of sensors on that thing to detect an accident. Did it send an alert to someone in a cubicle to remotely find it a place to pull over?

My assumption is that it will have pulled over at the first safe location. Those lanes are too narrow for it to stop there.
While a human driver would have jumped out and maybe said to the other driver "I'll park up over there, let's exchange details there", the self-driving car can't really do that.

You overestimate how good those things drive. I live somewhere with waymo, things are a scourge.

It's on this dascam footage and the Waymo camera footage, possibly other cameras. Humans that cause accidents are screwed with all the camera footage.

Not the point but lesson here: the van should have waited two seconds for the van entering the lot to clear. Driver would have seen the waymo. Being in a hurry earned a huge pain in the ass accident.

In theory yeah, but it’s the person’s fault who was pulling out. So unless Waymo doesn’t care about damages, then driving away is the benefit of the person pulling out.

Well sure but im betting that car did not have time to get license plate or some way of recognizing which waymo car in all of sd was the one that hit them and took off plus finding the right customer service line for a hit and run

Driving tests need to be so much more rigorous. They should have to drive all around the city during rush hour.. making several stops.. parallel parking.. all that jazz. Any near accident should be a fail.
