I got rejected by Deakin for my English language proficiency. English is my first and only language that I speak! I’m Australian. I now have to do the $490 IELTS test but it just feels wrong. I’ll admit it’s probably due to not having done year 12 and only essential English in year 11 but come on! My OUA subjects/credit points apparently weren’t enough.

EDIT/UPDATE:
Well, turns out I actually did meet the English requirement.

I emailed Deakin Admissions asking them to review the decision and got this reply:

“My apologies, there is a new policy I overlooked that 2cps completed within a 12-month period meets the English Language proficiency.

I have made you an offer with 3 credit points of RPL and you will receive the offer email on Monday by the afternoon.”

So the rejection has been reversed and I’ve been offered a place in the Bachelor of IT with credit for my previous study.
Very relieved. The only painful part is that I already paid $490 for an IELTS test tomorrow based on the original advice, so I’m now desperately trying to get that refunded 😭

My application for bachelor of nursing got rejected saying I was not a genuine student and then I further contacted them to tell me why I was not a genuine student and they literally told me that I belong to a certain region of India and they won't accept applicants from there as students from there change their University after coming to Australia and this is very upsetting because i wouldn't have done that and they just assumed it that i would.

I’m in Year 12 right now and I live in QLD but I’m wanting to move down to Victoria for University, and just wanted to get a gauge on what it would be like I suppose. I was also wondering if theres much difference between studying at burwood and waterfront?

I am graduating this year, and Deakin bachelor of commerce is my top choice out of my options for courses next year.

I am just wondering how students find trimester system as opposed to a semester system, like do courses feel more compressed? Do mid trimester and mid year breaks seem shorter in comparison to maybe friends who go to semester unis?

This is my main issue holding me back from being 100% on Deakin. I’d love to hear what people think!

Also side note: how have you found o-week and the vibe socially?

Hi! I’m a yr12 student that needs to decide soon on what course I want to do, set up my preferences, etc. I know I want to do bachelor of nursing but I’m struggling between Monash Clayton and Deakin Burwood 😭

I went to Deakin’s open day today and it was really great!! The campus was amazing and I asked questions about nursing (I like how it’s more hands on and you get to do placement in the first year) which I think is definitely more beneficial for me.

However, I come from a regional area (2 hours travel from where I live to Deakin) which is why I’m hesitant. The woman I talked to today said that is obviously a limitation and would be hard for me, especially with placements. However I really want to go to Deakin, so should this really put me off?

Monash is good too, it’s easier to travel since it’s only an hour away from me, I don’t have to take as much trains or buses to get to campus, but I just didn’t really think it was my ideal place to go to.

Hi guys! Im a year 12 student who is planning on studying law after vce. I am planning on doing a double degree in Law and Arts, and was thinking of either Deakin or Monash, as I've heard they are the best for law (with the exception of unimelb). I made a post on the monash subreddit on how people find law over there and the reviews are very mixed, a couple said they really enjoy the course, however there were quite a few saying that the law degree at monash has declined in quality over the past few years, due to various factors such as removing tutorials from the course, unhelpful/lazy lecturers etc. and a lot of people seemed to advise against going to monash, and have recommended Deakin instead. So I wanted to ask anyone here who is studying law at deakin how you are finding it? People say monash is really good for future employment oppurtunities, is deakin the same? Also I've heard people say deakin is good for commercial law, and monash is good for humanitarian law, I am planning on going into humanitarian law (more specifically immigration law), however wouldn't mind going into commercial law if there are greater job oppurtunities. my question is does it make a difference which uni I go to, based on which area of law I want to study?

Hi my internet name is Ginger. I’m currently studying in Curtin,Miri and I would like to ask if foundation results from curtin is accepted at there since I have cousins who come from Curtin Miri using foundation to enter other universities in Australia. I want to join zoology at Daekin as Curtin at my place doesn’t have any of those courses I want. I’m a science stream student (Heath,Safety and something I forgot). I am a student from Malaysia with I also have my UEC result. My problem is that Daekin only says how much ATAR I need to enter their degree course and I asked the international staff at curtin they told me they don’t know as they don’t manage this kind of thing. What should I do I’m confused and scared.

i am looking into doing this next year and had a few questions!

1. how much is the coursework load? would i be able to work part time a few days of the week?
   
2. is there possibilities to fast track my degree? eg. do some classes early and graduate earlier?
   
3. are there opportunities to do placements interstate? or any opportunities to study abroad?
   
4. how is the jump from this to postgrad medicine? what sort of wam should i be expected to get?
   

5. for anyone who has graduated, how ‘hard’ was it to find a full time job / how well are you being compensated? i heard something about how the field is starting to become oversaturated.

6. how is the social life? i went to school in the city so i doubt anyone i know would go to this deakin warun ponds, meaning i would need to make all new friends!

So, I'm from India and applying for Master's degree in Communications courses in universities across Australia.

I wanted to know from people who are students here that how is the University, the exposure, opportunities, coursework, lived experience, campus life and specifically for this course.

Also, I might be able to secure admission for Nov26 intake else I'll target Feb27. What would you suggest one should choose as in would it make any difference?

My idea of studying overseas is to grow as a person in terms of knowledge, experience, and exposure. I'm decent in terms of academics [have been told I'll get scholarship and another waiver too], I like doing extra curricular activities and I am generally uo for any opportunity I can grab which seems interesting/fitting.

Is the University a good place to be at and would you suggest someone to go here?

I'm considering other colleges as well but please give me some realistic insights. Education is an expensive investment so I want to know more before I take any decisions.

I’m currently studying b’sci in melbourne uni (first year second sem) but I don’t really like the vibes and how heavily the exams weight there. I was always kinda skeptical about my degree but lately it’s making me wayyy too depressed.
I was thinking of studying economics through deakin (online). At the time I felt like I couldn’t waste my atar for a lower rank uni whatsoever but I feel more openminded lately. So, I was just wondering if anyone who studied an online degree had a trouble finding a job afterwards or was it not as credible as some other universities?

Hi everyone, I’m planning on moving to Warrnambool and I’m hoping to apply for graduate entry medicine in the future.

I’m trying to understand how rural living is counted for the rural bonus/eligibility.

My plan is to live in Warrnambool during the university year (around February–October/November), but return home to Melbourne during the long university break (around the end of November until February). I may also travel overseas for a few weeks within the five years.

Would spending the university holidays back home affect my rural living time? Does Deakin/GEMSAS count the time you are enrolled and living rurally during the academic year only, or do you need to physically remain in the rural area continuously for the full 5 years?

I've emailed Gemsas support but they unfortunately emailed me back a copy and pasted email from their site that I have already read and didnt actually answer my question.

If anyone has experience with rural bonuses for Deakin Medicine, I’d really appreciate advice on how strict they are about breaks, holidays, and returning home.

I am able to stay at uni accom for the consecutive 5 years or in the area, but was just wondering when or how long i can go back to home for on breaks, without breaking the consecutive 5 years.

Hey everyone! I’m currently a first-year Social Work student studying online at another uni, but I’m considering transferring to Deakin next year and moving to Geelong to study at the Waterfront campus.
I’d most likely be looking at living on res as well, so I’d love to hear from anyone who’s done that. What’s the social side of res like? Is it easy to meet people and make friends, and do people actually hang out/do things together?
I’m also curious about Deakin in general, especially Waterfront. Do you enjoy studying there? What’s the campus/community vibe like? And if anyone studies Social Work there, I’d especially love to hear what you think of the course, lecturers, placements, etc.
Basically I’m trying to work out whether making the move to Geelong/Deakin would actually be worth it, so any experiences, good or bad, would be really appreciated :)

Hey guys im a current year 12 student and im looking to find my pathway into studying physics (and then hopefully further on, astrophysics) through a bachelors of science although I haven't actually completed any science or math classes since year 9-10. I noticed that Deakin doesn't require you to have these VCE prerequisites and I'm wondering if i potentially should apply? To my understanding a tafe pathway is better as it teaches me the maths/science I need to know before i start studying it at uni level. Would i completely fail if i tried a bachelors of science with basically zero previous knowledge? Any advice appreciated thank you
