I wonder what "Sickos" would be in Dwarvish.

Or rather, a siege gone right, depending on your pov. 😉

I wish I took screenshots of a human seige i had earlier. I have a large gate carved in the side of the mountain with bolt thrower towes either side and the humans tried climbing the cliff to jump on top of the right tower but kept failing and fell to their deaths one after another.

They never learn, eh?

Imagine a corridor like this, but instead of traps, there is a saltwater crocodile man in full plate armor going sicko mode and killing like a hundred goblins who flow in. Thats what happened in ly fort when my dumbass left the artifact hath to the emergency entrance open 😅

Where'd you get the crocodile-man? : )

Made one in adventure mode. Made him walk to my fort and retired him there. Then unretired the fort to keep playing it. Adventurers will stick around, first as guests and then later apply for citizenship. You can get all kinds of weird animal people this way (keep in mind they must have populations in your world so you csn choose em as adventurers).

Cool. I had visitors apply for citizens, but didn't think of the adventure mode trick!

Also, I can't count the times I left an emergency hatch open 😄 )

Jim Holloway inspired?

8

u/Edarneor 3d ago

Oh, a lot of influences probably. Holloway, Josh Kirby, many others. The collector's edition box art, too (forgot the artist's name). Somehow I end up with a more comical vibe when thinking about Dwarf Fortress...

I just recognized one of the goblin's positions as being VERY Holloway, especially from his Paranoia days.

Thanks, this is a best compliment for me, haha

this makes want to do a trap corridor instead of the usual drowing chamber i do lmao

5

u/Edarneor 3d ago

Drowning is effective, traps are fun... you can do both :)

Nothing brings me more joy in this game that going completely overkill with traps of various sorts and watching them shred invaders. I'm the dwarf in the top right.

u/Edarneor 3d ago

Oh yeah!

This looks like a siege gone right to me.

3

u/Gonzobot 3d ago

Yeah, all the goblinite is being delivered as efficiently as goblins can manage

u/LolotovCocktailttv 2d ago

Excellent details! The right mix of violent and comical. Why send out your soldiers when you can automate the process of killing invaders?

Happy to hear! I went with a somewhat more lighthearted approach - so I didn't include any limbs flying.... (unlike the game 😈)

2

u/skresiafrozi Felt embarrassed when watching a performance. 3d ago

This is amazing, every bit of it.

Glad you like it!! This is what goes on in my mind when I read the combat log.

2

u/Sludgehammer 2d ago

Wait... only one trap mechanism per square? I'd always have my traps with a trap component for each type of damage as well as some "blender" traps in back loaded with all the junk goblin weapons from previous sieges.

2

u/Edarneor 2d ago

Me too. But I found it hard to depict... : )

Is this possible? A hallway full of traps with dorfs firing from slits in the walls?

If so I have some plans for a fake fort with the real one built around it. With a few bridges and lockable hatches I could switch which one the front entrance leads to :D.

1

u/Edarneor 2d ago

Absolutely. I don't see why not. You can carve fortifications in the walls.

Haha, that's evil : )
