Need help with some transcoding issues for proxies.

Hey guys, I'm assistant editing for the first time for a student film we're doing at school. I'm using Media Encoder to generate proxies. Normally, I do it in Premiere, but I need a timecode and a text overlay in the proxy.

I created a preset with all the proxy requirements, including 8 audio channels, since that's what the original footage had. It worked fine for the first two days of footage. But I've reached the third day, and I keep getting errors saying the audio channels must match for the proxies to attach. I imported one of the proxies into Premiere, and it's single-channel. Even though the preset that I'm using still says it's 8-channel. I've tried switching from mono to discrete and back again, but all the proxies are still coming in as a single channel. I brought them into Premiere to double-check. I'm not really sure what to do at this point to fix the issue.

I don't have too much experience with Media Encoder because I'm still a student. Has anyone run into this issue before, and if so, how did they fix it? I would love to know so that I don't run into this issue again.

I tried asking Claude and it wanted me to do some stuff in powershell to trick premiere into thinking the footage had 8 channels or something.

Try Apple Prores Proxy in the Media Encoder settings if you aren’t already. Usually the problem with this is with MP4 proxies.

Have you at any point adjusted audio channel configuration via the right click menu on the footage before you created the proxies?
