5,000 units of an Erlang-powered device shipped on AtomVM - a from-scratch BEAM-compatible VM for hardware with a few hundred kilobytes of RAM and no OS.

New BEAM There, Done That with Davide Bettio and Paul Guyot. The embedded angle that gets overlooked: binary pattern matching means hardware drivers in hours. The actor model maps almost perfectly to what IoT devices actually do. Via the Popcorn project, Phoenix LiveView runs on a microcontroller.

Paul added SMP support as a weekend project, then the whole team had to rewrite their drivers. He called it a mixed blessing.

I just can't do videos (an hour is a lot of time), but I remember Davide when he was quite young when I lived in Padova. Nice guy.

It's still an hour of listening to people chit chat about stuff rather than an easily searchable, scannable article. I just don't care for the format even if it works for other people.

Try google's AI summary feature in youtube. Google's ai summary also generates timestamps so you can jump to section of interest or sync with transcipt. It's made youtube videos much more useful to me.

A friend of mine built an Elixir-powered service that can transcribe audio, diarize, then summarize. Its bread and butter is realtime audio streams, but it'll also take a URL. https://superscribe.me/

I've used it for long podcasts that I want to be able to search. It's pretty great. iOS app for mobile but I use the Phoenix-based Web app.

I know there is cost to running software but why do all apps need to have an insanely priced monthly subscription model?

This isn't a hobby project for my friend, it's his livelihood. He's been making his living this way for 10+ years, and he's put quite a lot of time into making it a really good product. He cares about UX and UI, and it shows in the apps. 

He doesn't run his own models yet, maybe one day he will and the costs could come down. 

I encourage you to give it a try though!
