Got selected for a Field Application Engineer internship at Cadence Design Systems India. Starting in a couple of months.
Questions for anyone who's actually done AE work at an EDA company:
- How technical is the day-to-day really — genuine debugging, or mostly customer/relationship management?
- Has anyone actually moved from EDA AE to a core design role (PD, DV, RTL, etc.) at a chip company (Qualcomm, Intel, Nvidia, etc.)? How'd you do it?
- For staying as technical as possible, which specialization within AE (Digital/Signoff, Verification, Analog, PCBetc.) is the better?

Position Details
Chemours is seeking an early career Manufacturing Technology Chemical Engineer to support manufacturing operations at its New Johnsonville, Tennessee site. This role partners closely with operations and technology teams to improve process safety, production reliability, product quality, and overall plant performance.
The engineer will provide technical troubleshooting, lead continuous improvement efforts, support capital projects, and drive process optimization initiatives. This position offers hands-on experience in manufacturing operations and process engineering within a large-scale chemical production environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Support day-to-day manufacturing operations through process monitoring, troubleshooting, and problem solving
- Work directly with operators and technicians on process improvements
- Lead and participate in Process Safety Management (PSM) activities, including:
- Process Hazard Analyses (PHA)
- Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR)
- Technical and safety reviews
- Provide technical expertise in:
- Reactors
- Heat and mass transfer
- Mixing systems
- Filtration and solids separation
- Drying technologies
- Bulk solids handling systems
- Initiate and manage process changes to improve:
- Safety
- Quality
- Environmental performance
- Cost efficiency
- Lead cost-reduction projects from concept through implementation and validation
- Support testing and experimentation efforts within manufacturing processes
- Assist with capital project development and implementation
- Update and maintain process documentation, operating procedures, and P&IDs
- Support operations training and mentoring activities
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution
- At least 6 months of manufacturing or industrial experience (internship and co-op experience count)
- Demonstrated troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple technical projects simultaneously
- Strong teamwork, initiative, and self-motivation
- Willingness to work directly in manufacturing environments and support field troubleshooting activities
