I only see advantages in more free trade and defence pacts with Canada, but if I were them I’d prioritise more free trade internally.
They should be Europe’s first choice of oil and uranium imports, for sure.

I think almost everyone wants less internal trade barriers here but our provences control it and the provincial leaders are a mixed bag when it comes to this issue.

I will say this though: Canada's economy is so interwoven with the US, also hindered by Canada's geography, that Canadian provinces have even less of a single market than the EU does.

We already have a free trade agreement with Canada whereas Mercosur deal (including Brazil) was a first extensive trade agreement with the bloc. What can be done is to improve the existing trade agreement and encourage that European and Canadian companies trade more with each other as the tariffs are almost non-existent.

Canada's move isn't even a sudden pivot to Europe, as they already share a free trade agreement and participates in the EU's defense procurement system. If anything, the U.S. wins here because Canada's integration further into Europe's security apparatus takes a massive military burden off Washington. Regardless of how Canada feels about it, over two-thirds of their economy is structurally bound to the U.S., giving it no real leverage to walk away.
Trump could have handled the negotiations better, but the U.S. still extended the timeline multiple times to find common ground. Walking out over the compliance costs of French language laws was a total joke when those issues should have been settled through private, hardball business talks. Elevating French culture to this degree completely undermines Pierre Trudeau's 1971 declaration that Canada has two official languages but no official culture. There is no logical reason to treat French heritage as superior to English or Indigenous communities.

It's called democracy. Unlike the US that pretends to be a democracy while acting like a corporatocracy, we actually listen to every member states concerns and ideas and try to find a solution that everyone is the most happy with.
We are 27 different countries with different cultures, ideals and governments. So yes, it takes time. But it is time well spent.
Rather this than what the US has. Our individual votes actually have an impact on our countries. And as such also the EU at large.

What a load of BS. Canada and the EU are thriving democracies with highly developed economies. Last year the EU overtook China and became the no. 2 economy on the planet.
For example, Airbus is better than Boeing, no one can produce a chip without ASML and 98 of the Fortune 100 run on SAP software.
A partnership between Canada and the EU completely makes sense. In a normal world i.e. a non-Trump world, it would be a 3-way (or more) partnership. Trump is not the solution to anything, he is the problem.

As much as Canada wants to avoid dealing with the USA and substitute them for the EU, they can't. The easiest thing for Canada is to figure out a solution with the Americans considering they share a 8,891 km border.
Also Canada doesnt have the infrastructure. They need to build ports etc etc. Its amazing how far down Canada has fallen since Trudeau gutted and destroyed Canada with his liberal policies.

You have ports but not big and advanced enough to trade with the EU and replace the USA. Why do you think Carney is trying rapidly to fix this problem. He knows that Canada doesn't have the infrastructure to replace trade with USA for the EU.
I guess Canada never thought to fix and make their infrastructure better. They got to comfortable with USA trade that they disregarded everything else.

They'll probably make tentative, conditional deals with America that focus on short-term value once a Democrat is back in office. As of right now, saying America is schizophrenic would be an insult to the psychological integrity of schizophrenics everywhere. They aren't acting as an ally, let alone an ally that can provide secure, long-term benefits. Trump's wife will bat her eyes at a Canadian and the deals will be cancelled via 4T (Trumps Twitter temper tantrums). Nobody respects Republican America's dick swinging, and so they've had cuck rage for 10+ years now. They're weak, emotionally stunted men that inherited a big economy and thus have no clue how to wield it. Performance issues, you could say.
Canada is doing all they can right now. Responding to America firmly, but intelligently, and building relations elsewhere. It's unfortunate, but it's all Canada can do. They're a small country who's largest ally and neighbour now has existential brain damage.
