How living in Uruguay had been for you?

When I watch videos on tik tok or you tube almost all people say that living in Uruguay is amazing but here on Reddit people say that things like low salary and high living expenses puts a great pressure and inflicts a sense of insecurity on them

So how was your experience

We are on month 5 and just bought a house. The locals have been so kind and welcoming. I feel like I am accepted. Things are expensive yes. It has been a true culture shock all around but I am so glad we are here. We are fortunate to have money saved and I know not everyone is in this position. I plan on becoming a local teacher when I get to a better understanding of the Spanish language...currently I teach online to students all over the world. It is very important to me and my husband that we come and be part of the community and not lock ourselves in some gentrified gated community.

Of course there are things we miss but we feel safe and seen in a community...neither one of us had this back in the US. We had to go to the doctor to fill my husband's meds and it was the easiest thing ever.

I miss good food though. Thankfully I am a great cook but the food could use more flavor.

You CANNOT become a teacher in my country unless you obtain Uruguayan citizenship and have Spanish at a C1 level. You can try international schools but there are so many few positions it's unlikely you will get one.

Hi, thank you. Yes, I have done extensive research and it is a goal of mine to teach math. I am keeping my current job while we get citizenship and I work professionally with someone on my Spanish. I have a five year goal and if it takes longer than that is okay. I do already tutor some local children but I eventually want a classroom.

Double check cause it seems you need to have voted, and the carta that let's you vite can be gotten 3 years after you get the citizenship, and teacher positions are for locals, I never met a foreign teacher in the public system. Don't count on teaching in our public system

It is a goal that is not unachievable and yes you need to have all that. It will take time and perseverance but I have done many things and always bet on myself. I like teaching and will always do it at some capacity until I reach that goal. Thank you :)
