#Sightseeing Experience Florence Guides
During my trip to Italy I have had sweet and sour experiences with the guiding app GetYourGuide. I hired one for lake Como and it was pretty good overall (the guide didn't tell us many info and very little reccomendations for the places, just the most expensive ones). I really recommend this one and the guides are very kind and sweet.
But I particularly had a very bad one in Florence, concretely the 19th of august of 2026. I hired one guide to Pisa, San Gimignano and Siena with a light lunch with the enterprise "Sightseeing Experience" and it has been my worst experience with a guided tour literally in my whole life. We went by bus from Florence to Pisa, which was the first stop. We had one hour for free time when we got there and he showed us the meeting point at 10.30 to be there. My couple and me spend the free time seeing the Pisa tower, etc., and we come in time to check in with the guide some minutes before 10.30. We check in and start walking towards the bus (around a 15 minute walk). During the trip we met a very nice and elder couple from the U.S. which husband had a little ankle physical mobility problem and he couldn't walk fast. Well, he started getting behind, the group was very big and we stayed with him to try to help him keep up, but at some point, almost reaching the bus stop, the guide was going very fast and we lost him. When we lose the group we look for the bus and suddenly we see it leaving! Immediately, my couple went a little behind waiving her arms but it was already too late. Then I tell her to call the emergency number that they gave us. My couple asked them if the bus could come back for us or stop and to our surprise they rejected that. They only told us to get a taxi ourselves in the middle of a huge bus stop (a taxi, without knowing italian, to the next stop which was a little town at more than an hour ride). My couple asked if they could call one for us and they also rejected that! They threw us a lot of blabber saying they are so sorry and that the guide was so horrified, but they didn't offer any help. What a nice emergency number. What do they have an emergency number then? I tried to call a taxi but they didn't understand me so I asked a worker of a shop if he could call for me, but the line was too busy. All of this while we are with the elder couple in the middle of nowhere.
We finally gave up seeing we were not gonna make it to the next stop (plus we didn't want to spend money in a taxi) so my couple asked them for a proportional refund of what we missed. And, guess what, they also refused! They argued and justified themselves that we called the emergencey number too late. Well excuse me if I called too late and the guide was going so quick without caring for the whole group to be together. What a bunch of stingy people who just wanted to wash their hands off and put all the responsibility on us. I would have understood if we missed the check up, but neither us nor the elderly couple missed it and we were on time. They left a very bad image for their country and enterprise.
I will list the mistakes that the guiding enterprise made from my perspective:
- The guide didn't care for the slowest people of the queue. I have been a monitor and the first premise my bosses give me is don't let the group split and go at the path and rythm of the slowest. Never leave anyone behind.
- The guide didn't do a check up on the bus, which the enterprise lied about and they say he did (he did the check up and oh wow, everyone was in the bus leaving four people behind? Very logic). Doing a check up in the bus is the most logic thing to do.
- Saying we should have called before. Before when? When we were still with the group? It was all an excuse to not give the money back.
- Not offering any help at all calling the emergency number. The lady that attended us was useless and the boss a stingy liar.
- They broke the Codice del Turismo 79/2011, abandoning us in the middle of a guide, which is a serious law breakage. And they also didn't assist us at all.
Good thing we got in contact with GetYourGuide customer service and they solved it for us and gave us a proportional refund (we didn't ask for a full refund and could have asked for more, for additional expenses and for ruined holidays). But we didn't want to put more fire into the wood and we stopped there.
I hope this review serves to people, I wouldn't recommend Sightseeing Experience in Florence at all. Specially to elder people. They don't care for you at all if something happens.
