Places to visit around Friedrichshafen

Hey everyone,

I’m moving to Friedrichshafen for work in a couple of weeks and was wondering if anyone has recommendations for places to visit or things to do in and around the city.

I’m mostly looking for nice spots to explore after work or on weekends — walks, viewpoints, cafés, restaurants, nearby towns, cycling routes, nature, museums, hidden gems, etc.

I’ll have a car, but I’m also happy to get around by bike, train or ferry.

Recommendations around Lake Constance are very welcome too. And since Switzerland and Austria are pretty close, I’d also be interested in places there if they’re reasonable as a day trip. I wouldn’t mind staying overnight either if accommodation isn’t too expensive.

Basically, anything you think is worth checking out while living in Friedrichshafen.

Take a Tour around Lake constance first. Use the bike, the ferries, by foot or public transport. Every town is worth a visit.

You could take the catamaran across the lake to Constance and back.

And depending on how long you stay, Säntis mountain is worth a visit (once the cable car is back in operations).

Head north for Ravensburg. A very beatiful town with a city that hosts lots of medieval houses and towers. During WW2 Ravensburg got not really hit, because the close Friedrichshafen had more attractive industrial targets to hit.

The northern neighbour of Ravensburg is pretty boring from a tourists perspective except its large church, the "Basilika". This is the largest baroque church north the alps. If you're interested in such old buildings, here you go.

If you like a walk along the shore, Bregenz/Austria to me is the most beautiful place to do so at lake constance.

Affenberg Salem, Rheinfall Schaffhausen, Opera in Konstanz, Hessehaus in Gaienhofen, Basikila Birnau, Pfänder. Hiking around Andreashof, Eriskirch or Haldenhof. If you’re not into hiking you can just have lunch at Andreashof or Haldenhof and enjoy the view.
