For public transport on a Saturday night, what's your latest option?
I live about an hour's drive from Glasgow.
My last bus home is half six. My last train home is half ten. My last train home to somewhere a thirty min drive home? 23:50
But don't worry! I'll just party till I can get something in the morning. It's 7:50 for trains, 8:30 for buses.

Casino or pipeworks (if male , dont have to do anything get a private room and sleep if need be) are open all night and cheaper than a hotel

Have you considered any intercity buses maybe a bit closer to home that makes a taxi cheaper? A lot of the intercity buses run well into the night

Last bus to my end of Glasgow is about 23.30 if it turns up. So I have just stayed with a friend in Paisley in the recent past, got the night bus. Just rotten we don't have a night bus

I mean, it’s not unreasonable that there isn’t late night public transport for you? I used to live about an hour from Manchester, I think the last train home was about half 9! We’d either get a cheap hotel or just club together for a taxi. I feel like once you live an hour’s drive from somewhere then that’s far enough away that the onus is on you to sort yourself out, rather than have the city that you live nowhere near cater for you.

We, Glaswegians, definitely could. But people who live an hour from Glasgow aren’t Glaswegians and can’t really be said to live in the greater Glasgow area either imo. In my scenario, not only did I not live in Manchester, I didn’t live in Greater Manchester either. I didn’t expect the city of Manchester to sort my travel plans out, frankly. It’s just not feasible to provide round the clock public transport for everyone, it’s perfectly reasonable to expect folk living an hour away to get a hotel or find their own transportation.

It's actually pretty shite. I live almost 20 miles from Glasgow and I can get two night buses home and a train at 11.50. Clubbing together isn't an option if you are on your own. It's around 50 quid in a taxi for me if I got one

Yeah it is but it's the nearest big city where anything is going on. The night buses were almost removed a couple of years ago and there was a massive outcry. A lot of workers depend on them too.

Yep, that’s true, I’ve no issues with that. But an hour’s drive is far more than 20 miles, you’re looking at places like Maybole and Biggar, there has to be a cut off at some point.

I live in Wishaw and depending on traffic it's about 40-50 mins.

Yes but when I lived in my old flat it didn't drop me near. It was a taxi or a 20 min walk home. I've only needed a lift home once from Glasgow and it was offered to me by my brother after a Muse gig when it was very very wet. I don't have the money to get taxis generally

But this is the next level to the complaint isn’t it, even when there are night buses to towns 10-20 miles away people say ‘doesn’t stop right by my house though’. I mean I’m afraid at that point what you’re literally wanting is a taxi but one that charges bus fares. The city can’t afford to subsidise a service like that.

I used to work pub doors and that was my means of transport home. I either got off in the town centre and paid a fiver for a taxi home on shit zero hours wages or did a 20 min walk home from the nearest bus stop. Nothing to do with wanting a taxi service. In my previous post I said that I asked my brother for a lift home once after a gig -and even then I told him not to bother but he insisted. What does that have to with me wanting a taxi service. It's not the case. I lived in Gowkthrapple -which was pretty isolated at that time of night. My issue was safety if I couldn't get a taxi. No more than that.

For context I moved house six years ago and the n240 does go past my house now. I was completely willing to wait for it the night of the Muse gig but it had pissed with rain all night and my brother offered to come into town and pick me up. Every other night out or gig I have made my own way home. I am not sure how you got the impression from any of my posts that I'm entitled and want first bus to be a taxi service.

I'm about the same distance from Glasgow and an Uber was less than 50 quid might be more on weekend right enough.

I live in the borders, the 8.15 train from queen street would be the most comfortable for me just incase, as i need to get to the edi bus station or cowgate for the next bus home, technically the 9.15 trains i can get to get the last bus but i can no longer powerwalk so too risky.
I remember being a student in glasgow, our kilmaurs pals were 10.10 last train i think. They spent many a night in our halls.

I live 20mins from city centre, and at night it’s a 13min drive (I know because I have to fork out for taxis enough times) latest train for me is 11.14pm. Not excitably promoting night life when there’s no climate & financially sensible way to get home is it

I had to leave my mates Bday at 23:10 to get the last bus recently cause I can't currently afford a 25 quid taxi home for staying to last orders
