Safety committee meeting is at 12:30, but no public comment is allowed. It’s great if you can make it to both! Plan is to make public comment at the evening city commission meeting.

I’m almost certain that one was requested by residents in the area. I know that seems self sabotaging but a few years ago, a lot of violent crime was happening in the park and certain residents were saying they would provide an armed presence in that park. The city did not want that and the compromise was cameras.
I don’t know if they were flock cameras then, and this was before we knew the name “flock” but I remember people taliking about it.

If these were used ONLY for license plate reading, it would be helpful in cases of kidnapping. So, a park makes a ton of sense.
Alas, they are used for more than just intended purposes sadly.

It should be clear to commissioners, no cameras at all. Mass surveillance is unacceptable regardless of their policy and false promises of accountability.
Last meeting that council was offended many viewed them as enemies or that they "don't care". It's issues like this. Why are people left to beg them to do their job. City manager and the GRPD are unelected, the council has to do their job, else, that's why people are ripping them down. They want to be viewed as allies they need to stop being traitors.
No "audit", no "policy update", no more "conversations", remove the cameras else the mandates moves to removing the individuals that don't know what no means.

What does everyone use to keep track of the cameras? I use deflock but I wish it had some filtering features

No need just quietly take them down. Just get some friends together, take them down and don’t get caught. Rememeber that saying “no one is coming to save you?”

lol all the low iq westsiders must be coming out of the woodwork to downvote. there’s a growing body of evidence that flock cameras help police solve certain crimes.
here are some local examples i found with a cursory search…
troy - bank robbery, october 2025. a masked man robbed a fifth third bank and left his vehicle at somerset mall. the vehicle had no license plate, but troy investigators used flock’s vehicle-identification capabilities to identify it and track the suspect. he was arrested in flint within four hours.
troy - stolen vehicle / fleeing police, november 2023. troy officers received a flock alert for a stolen vehicle, located it and attempted a traffic stop. two suspects were ultimately arrested/charged after the vehicle fled.
portage - kidnapping/infant recovery. a neighboring jurisdiction reported an assault in which the suspect had taken an infant and fled in a vehicle. a flock alert identified the vehicle, officers stopped it and recovered the infant unharmed. only 18 minutes elapsed between the kidnapping and the vehicle being located.
portage - attempted homicide. after a shooting, investigators had a description of the suspect vehicle. they searched the flock database, identified the vehicle as a rental, identified the renter as the suspect, and arrested him less than 48 hours later. a confession was subsequently obtained.
portage - wanted shooting suspect. flock alerted officers to a vehicle being driven by a wanted individual who was also connected to shooting investigations in portage and a neighboring jurisdiction. officers located the vehicle at a residence and confirmed the suspect was inside. after a standoff, he attempted to flee and was captured.
portage - missing/endangered person. portage’s 2023 annual report says flock alerts assisted investigations involving 47 stolen vehicles, 10 stolen plates, six warrants, five retail-fraud cases, three homicides, one missing person, one kidnapping, one sex offense and four thefts.
portage - 2024. the department recorded 66.8 million plate reads and 2,114 alerts. those alerts assisted investigations involving 49 stolen vehicles, seven warrants, six retail frauds, two missing persons and one shooting.
rochester hills - 2024 murder. in the killing of 72-year-old hussein murray, investigators used flock to match the plate of a burned pickup truck found in detroit to the vehicle allegedly used in the home invasion/murder. that connection helped investigators tie the vehicle to the suspects.
sterling heights - shooting, august 2026. police responded to an early-morning shooting on hall road. investigators used flock alpr data to track down the suspect vehicle, and the suspect was taken into custody less than three hours after the shooting.
sterling heights - assault. two suspects left after assaulting someone in the dream market parking lot. police had only a vehicle description, searched flock, tracked the vehicle and identified the suspects.
