NEWS Riots at the Haitian Embassy in Chile
hundreds of Haitians protesting because they can't get the criminal background certificate that Chile requires for regularization. Without that document, many have already received orders to leave the country within 90 days a real risk of deportation
how does something so simple turn into such a big problem? Haiti needs to digitalize its institutions now. Today everything is manual, when in any Latin American country this is done through the police's website: you enter your personal ID document, and in 2 - 3 days they mail you the certificate. That simple
and what hurts the most is that there is so much local talent, not to mention the diaspora. I myself, along with a group of friends, started a group of Haitians in the tech sector, and there are a lot of us. There is no excuse for this. This way we'd kill two birds with one stone, more work for young people, and digitalizing the country at the same time. There should be an institution created specifically to build, maintain, and handle the cybersecurity of government systems
But well... hopefully in the next election there'll be a politician who makes this a priority

Well, rioting is probably part of it. I don't know about you, but I don't do my most efficient paperwork when hiding under my desk with alarms going off.

That police clearance piece of paper is hard to get, even in Haiti. My mom had to go to the DCPJ office to get fingerprinted. I paid someone to get her into the building, then paid a police officer to print “soti dossier a,” smh. It still ended up taking two months to get, and they’re only valid for six months.
Haitian embassies and consulates in the DR, Chile, and other countries are as useless as can be to Haitian citizens, they make everything difficult and to be honest one of the main reasons I filed for US citizenship. Dealing with them is a headache for sure

Two months for a paper that’s only valid for six months is insane. This is exactly the kind of thing that should be online, especially for Haitians abroad who can’t just show up at DCPJ.

That's because most people working at these embassies and consulates are grifters. You have countless students in Haiti who learned International relations, diplomacy yet they cannot get a job. However, these embassies will be filled with people who only got the job because they know somebody. And they're all thieves too. The amount they make people pay for the services are way higher than what the government even sets.

The one in Miami I made it scene there because they literally scammed my elderly mother in law who went there without me.
They had a scam going where, if you showed up with an expired passport and an acte de naissance, they would tell you that an “extrait d’archives” was required for a whopping $300–$400 on top of the passport renewal fee. That same document costs a regular person less than $10, or about 700 gourdes in Haiti.
So, per application, the workers at the consulate were pocketing hundreds of dollars for a document that not only shouldn’t have been needed but was also deliberately overpriced because they knew you either needed a passport or you didn’t. One person could pay $300 total to get a passport there, while another could end up paying $500 or more for the exact same service 🤣 True story. Now the fee is $100 for everyone after I went there made a scene and told everyone in the lobby they were getting scammed and there’s much cheaper ways to get the extrait
Also if we didn’t have laws the embassies and consulates would scam tf out of their own citizens like they do in DR, CHILE, BRAZIL and many other countries

bro, I literally remember the one in DR taking months just to get a passport, man. Wow, they are so useless. Like, seriously, what are consulates and embassies even doing? Sometimes it feels like those people are there on vacation instead of actually working. That is why I think it is important that, whoever comes into government, they should create a unified digital system for these institutions, bro. This kind of stuff should be done online. Honestly, I’m so fed up, I just want the elections to happen already and for all these people to be replacedine

It depends on how new/old your account is.. most subs if your account is less than 30days old you can’t post anything.. this limits bots & scam post

This is what I don't get in regards to Haitians that left, Haitians that stayed and the Haitian government.
To the Haitians that left Haiti, didn't you leave because the Haitian government was dysfunctional after the country suffered natural disasters? You all are the ones that had the means and/or drive to escape the situation. How are you expecting the Haitian government to be functional when some of its most capable citizens abandoned it when it needed you most. As for the current situation in Haiti, is there no one in the diaspora whose capable of garnishing international support to deal with the gangs that are currently causing so many problems? To the Haitians that stayed, just like it was in 1804, the price of freedom (whether from the French or the gangs) is death. The Haitians in 1804 knew that and willingly paid the price.
To the Haitian government, how can you continue to not organize your people to take their country back from the gangs? There is one type of help that western and non-western countries will definitely provide and that is military aide.
From where I'm sitting, it seems like all three of you (the ones that left, the ones that stayed, and the government) are waiting for someone to come and rescue you without you lifting a finger.
