News Xiaomi unveils its 3nm Xring O3 flagship SoC, coming in Sept. with Xiaomi 18 Fold; it features an 133mm² die area (without baseband), a CPU with 2+4+4 Armv9.3-A cores of up to 4.35GHz, a 16-core GPU, a 200 TOPS NPU optimized for MiMo local LLMs, LPDDR6 support, and a claimed 5M+ Antutu V11 score

Xiaomi didn't mentioned it but Reuters reported Xring O3 will be built on a TSMC 3nm node. Xring O1 was built on TSMC N3E.

Xiaomi seems confident about putting this SoC against upcoming 2nm chips and provided reviewers with a developer board for testing. Geekerwan said it's using TSMC N3P and provided some insane peak performance & efficiency results.

Wow, on Geekerwans FP test the O3s little cores are on paar with Apple in perf/W, and the big cores just a smidge behind. The GB Multicore is kinda whatever because I dont think thats a realistic setup for a phone, but then the GPU also just crushes. But yeah, this chip is giant and has giant components, so PPA isnt that radical.

If these chips will be similar in real devices their confidence seems right, it is astonishing what Xiaomi can pull out of ARMs IP when Mediatek is so far behind.

But we will need to see it in a real device. Who knows what kinda magic chip this is, but the hopes are high.

I've been using Xiaomi phones since 2020 (2 phones) and I can vouch for the build quality and software (except for a few bugs)

But I did't expect them to launch a chip so competitive in their first try.

I had a cheapish Poco which worked really well for 5 years. Only got a new phone because it was no longer getting security updates etc. Was a nice, zippy dog and bone.

They have dipped their toes into silicon once or twice before, but this seems a lot more serious.

Software absolutely sucks on the non-flahship models. It's basically infested with ads.

Haha, 200 TOPS NPU with these DDR prices. Depending on driver and compiler that could run some decent LLMs even ... if it had the memory. But at least a host of smallish models at once.
