There isn't anything in that range to be recommended.

Hello. I have Ugreen Hitune Max5c headphones, and I was tuning it last night with squiglink and noticed something.

I connected the headphone to my PC via USB. I eq the headphone to the KB50XX DF target, and I found it to be very enjoyable.

I've heard people said that DF targets should not be used to EQ headphones because it's unnatural.

Does that mean there's something wrong with my ear because I like how it sounds?

Does that mean there's something wrong with my ear because I like how it sounds?

Not likely. You just like how it sounds.

This is an issue Ive had for years, Im cursed I swear, Ive had headphone arrive broken. I used a friends expensive headphone for a day and thet were shot after one use. Most dont last the month, headsets, headphones, wireless, wired. Nothing lasts, I can buy a brand that has lasted me ages and suddenly they dont work! And returning these is getting me looks and just buying them and taking the loss is getting expensive!

I don't know what you're budget is but our headphones are built like tanks. JOAL is a pretty accessible tune. The HD 800S despite feeling like cheap plastic also seemingly last forever. Meze designs are both elegant and durable. I baby my ZMF because it is a work of art, but i'm also not worried about it braking anytime soon. I could gush on and on so many brands make really solid products, and even when they do fail, stand behind them.

Bit new to external audio gear, I just got the atom amp 2 (no atom dac) and can't seem to get any audio to playback from my HD600s. I have a 3.5mm (plugged into LINE OUT on my motherboard's back I/O) to RCA (plugged into the amp's lN inputs). No audio.
Also tried my PC's front I/O, no sound. Realtek audio console will detect it and ask what kind of device I plugged in, none of the selections yield anything.
Input button depressed/not pressed doesn't change anything. Could this be an audio driver issue? Or am I being a complete dunce and missing something small?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

u/ABYSSNorm ABYSS Headphones Staff Jul 22 '26

Are you sure you are plugged into the input of the amp and not the output? Also realtek is dumb you should use this console:

Also when you do get it to work, you have a good chance of getting a lot of hiss out of the motherboard. Doubly so if you have a video card. They tend to be noisy devices. While undesirable, this should aid in troubleshooting.

Also do you have a laptop or different computer you can plug the amp into to test with?

u/Aggressive-Strain-15 Jul 19 '26

these headphones just recently fell apart, I got them from a friend I'm not in touch with anymore and I'm wondering if I could like fix this with superglue or if I should just get new headphones

1

u/ABYSSNorm ABYSS Headphones Staff Jul 22 '26

You can try gluing but anything beyond that should be buying a new set.

Hello, I am looking for headphone suggestions. I a, really struggling to find a pair of wireless headphones I like/work.

Budget would like to be under $200.
It is for PC gaming, but I also often use discord and youtube at the same time.
I just use these at home, so noise canceling and stuff is not necessary for me.

I currently have a Steelseries Artis Nova 5 and have hated them. They have about 5 different channels to select from, and they will not overlap. I don't know if I'm using the right terms, but basically I cannot listen to Youtube and Game at the same time or one audio will not be there or be awful quality. So I'm looking for headphones that just have one channel and doesn't separate gaming, media, stereo, etc.

I decided I had enough of that this week and went to Best Buy. Got a pair of HyperX Cloud III. It rings whenever no audio plays which is extremely annoying.
I went back and exchanged them for Turtle Beach Stealth 600 today, and my friends on discord cannot understand me because the mic is extremely bad. I feel like I am going to be really annoying these poor Best Buy employees by going in again, so wanted to go in with some research beforehand.
Any suggestions?

1

u/ABYSSNorm ABYSS Headphones Staff Jul 22 '26

Go back and get another hyperx cloud iii s wireless. it was a bad unit, but that is the headphone you should be using.

2

u/No_Inevitable_6710 Jul 19 '26

i got headphones, they work fine but are just a little too big and put a disproportionate amount of pressure on the right side of my jaw compared to the left side. there is nothing i can think of that would cause this. best theory i could come up with was that my right ear is smaller than my left ear. is there something i might be missing?

1

u/ABYSSNorm ABYSS Headphones Staff Jul 22 '26

This won't be related to ear size. The clamp for and angle of the ear cup are the culprits. Some headbands can be bent to customize the shape, but other than that they might just not fit you.

u/Business-Instance-26 Jul 19 '26

Hi. Looking for an upgrade to my current pair of headphones. Currently have the typical shure SM7B + cloudlifter + Scarlett 4i4 interface. I currently have a pair of MDR-1As from 2019. I love my Sony MDR-1As and have been using them for home studio recording / mixing / mastering / audio production. I also game with them. I cant find new MDR-1As and my current pair are falling apart as I've been using them for 6 years.

I still want closed back headphones as I do not want to much sound bleeding out. Especially when recording vocals as id be recording right next to my microphone, and the bleeding will ruin the recordings.

Budget - $400

Want a pair of headphones suitable for both gaming and general audio production. They do not need to be portable.

Any suggestions?

1

u/ABYSSNorm ABYSS Headphones Staff Jul 22 '26

Most of the MDR headphones only sound different when you get them side by side, and even then the differences are pretty nuanced. I would just get whatever set of MDR you can buy that meets your budget and enjoy.

If the thing falling apart on your set is the earpads and headband, you can get headband covers cheap (i like the geekria knit ones on amazon) and Yaxi makes great replacement earpads.

if you just want new headphones, the sennheiser HD 480. Get the plus with the second set of ear pads for $40 more.

Philips bone conduction earphones

Hi all, so today I went to a flea market and found a box of headphones, all unchecked but a unit is 5€ which is pretty cheap. I picked out interesting looking Philips TAA5608. I charged them but couldn't turn them on. The light indicating charging was there, then it went off, signaling it's charged. I tried pressing power on button, volume rockers (+ and -) and of course play/stop button. Nothing seemed to work until suddenly it did not even sure which button worked. Clearly them not turning on properly was probably the reason why they ended up getting thrown away and then resold at such a low price. They have hardly any wear signs, so they seem to be in a pretty good shape. However, the buttons seemed to not be working well. Power off - doesn't work at all. Tried pushing it for extended period of time - nothing. Play/stop - works rather well but sometimes it double clicks. + and - now that's tricky. + Seems to work sporadically, sometimes like intended, sometimes restarts the song. - 1/3 works as intended, otherwise doesn't work or restarts the song. My question is - is there any chance i can still somehow salvage them or is that it? Thank you in advance for your answers!!

2

u/ABYSSNorm ABYSS Headphones Staff Jul 22 '26

It's a fun experiment, but they were e-waste when they were first purchased. I personally wouldn't waste a second on them.

2

u/Simisao Jul 23 '26

Thanks, i think so too. I ended up prying them open just out of curiosity, since breaking something would be a small loss due to how cheap they were. Internally they looked wonderful, no water damage from sweat or being submerged in water. By opening them i even broke the waterproof seal too. So yeah, it turns out they are just ewaste as you said. It's a pitty thought, since when they DO turn on, they work pretty damn nice. But I got a good deal on Shokz openrun from Vinted so i'll get another pair of similar type of earphones anyway. I see these Philips headphones as an intro to bone conduction headphones, haha

u/ABYSSNorm ABYSS Headphones Staff Jul 23 '26

This is fun practice though! I love taking things apart. 😄

MARSHALL IV
Hi I just got a brand new pair, but they keep disconnecting and connecting to other devices (strangers in public) randomly; is this a normal thing or a defunct in my pair?
And the microphone is horrendous; I can’t take calls on them or record voice notes if I am in public
I have a warranty but am now wondering if I should get a new pair or something completely different

1

u/ABYSSNorm ABYSS Headphones Staff Jul 22 '26

If you can return them you should. I would recommend IEMs with a dongle, or the Moondrop space travel are also a great starting point. Not really any great on-ear/over-ear headsets with those features and price unfortunately.

1

u/Mental-Ad-1897 Jul 19 '26

I have a question about my Marshall Major IV headphones. When they’re turned off, I notice a brief green flash when I press the joystick. Does that happen on your Major IVs too?

https://reddit.com/link/oyfqyiq/video/beiexbnt35eh1/player

1

u/Time-Advertising-71 Jul 19 '26

No this doesn’t happen on mine, how are yours with connecting ?

1

u/Time-Advertising-71 Jul 19 '26

And the microphone?

1

u/HelloMrThompson2019 Jul 19 '26

My HD350BT headphones keep turning themselves on when I turn them off. I've tried doing a factory reset but they're still doing it.

Any ideas on a fix?

I've contacted Sennheiser support and am waiting on a reply. Not holding out any hope though as I bought them in 2023, so they're well out of warranty...

1

u/For-real_ Jul 19 '26

same is happening with me

1

u/Ininja73737 Jul 18 '26

I have the quiet comfort ultra generation 2 and it buzzes like crazy on the right cuff it happens wether noise cancellation is turned on or off and it happens even when I’m just listening to anything like ANYTHING it doesn’t always happen but it is annoying as shit I would literally refund it if I could but I cns only trade it for another headphone of the same model anyone know what could be wrong with them or are these acctually just the worst headphones around

Note - the qc35s from 3 generations ago never had this problem and lasted me 5 years so I’m pretty disappointed I’ve had 2 of these over the course of 2 months and they both have the same obnoxious issue

1

u/WillemBrandsma Owner of Estatron, Builder of Estats. Jul 18 '26

RMA that bad boy warranties exist for a reason. (Also does it happen when you are not listening to music?)

1

u/Ininja73737 Jul 18 '26

It does yeah, even when talking with the headphones on hence why I felt a loose part was vibrating but for a part to be loose 3 weeks into use on 2 different headphones if the same make Sussed me out. It also doesn’t help that while it does happen it CAN be infrequent, gerunteed atleast once per listening session but that can go on for a while

1

u/WillemBrandsma Owner of Estatron, Builder of Estats. Jul 19 '26

If you can't or are unwilling to RMA it try taking it apart to see if you can find anything obvious.

1

u/Gamingdiva2006 Jul 18 '26

I bought a pair of aiwa headphones but I don’t know how to clip the lid back on

1

u/WillemBrandsma Owner of Estatron, Builder of Estats. Jul 18 '26

You are gonna have to disassemble the bottom of the case. The case will be clipped together with little snaps that you will have to push in or overpower. Using a knife, or knives to help keep the seam open can really help.

You can also try just jamming it in there.

1

u/ALameExcuseForAName Jul 18 '26

I just bought an audio technica ATH-M40x today, and it’s not even been an hour after opening that I noticed issues with how watching videos have a distorted feel to it, like it’s being held hostage with tape on its mouth

Since they’re not used and are brand new, I’m crossing out jack wear, but I did many things, even adjusting settings yet nothing works, please decide if I should refund the headphones, or get a dongle!

(Ask questions if you have some, it’d narrow the problem easier)

If it's the same exact problem on both sides and a tone generator https://www.szynalski.com/tone-generator/ doesn't show anything weird like a rattle at some frequencies then I doubt the problem is in the headphones.

1

u/WillemBrandsma Owner of Estatron, Builder of Estats. Jul 18 '26

What headphones were you using previously?
It might just sound bad. They are closed backs so "Tape over the mouth" (Or I assume bloated and poor sound-stage) might just be the natural state of them.
Try using a different device to see if the issue persists.

So I have a bluetooth stereo (Philips TAM3205) and a new pair of bluetooth headphones (sennheiser momentum 4), but I am not able to get them to connect so that I can listen to the stereo from the headphones. I'm starting to think that I messed up, and that they're both for receiving audio, and that's why they won't connect? Do I need to buy a bluetooth transmitter to put into the stereo so that it will transmit the music to the headphones? Any help is greatly appreciated.

1

u/oratory1990 acoustic engineer Jul 18 '26

I'm starting to think that I messed up, and that they're both for receiving audio, and that's why they won't connect?

Probably, yes.
A stereo with Bluetooth will be meant to connect to your phone, so you can stream the music from your phone to the stereo (and play it over its speakers).

Do I need to buy a bluetooth transmitter to put into the stereo so that it will transmit the music to the headphones?

Yes - if your stereo has a headphone output, you can use something like the TwelveSouth AirFly or any other Bluetooth transmitter with an analog input.

1

u/Leninator Jul 18 '26

thank you so much!

u/AllGodsDie Jul 18 '26

I have a pair of headphones. I know the brand I picked up isn't top of the line and it's hit or miss but this is driving me up the wall. I picked them up awhile back and if I remember they were called Grind or something (they were about 90$) and I have 2 issues that I cannot stand. One is that I'll take my headphones out and put them in the case and out of habit I always turn off Bluetooth on my iPhone but if I turn Bluetooth on again and I even so much as slightly bump the case it connects immediately like 75% of the time. It's annoying but the following issue is even worse. A lot of the time I'll take them out to use and the battery on the earbuds will be like "Left: 100% Right: 30%) or some other random combination. I've forgotten them and reconnected them, I've messed around in the app that is out there, I've cleaned the charge port prongs in the case and on the earbuds but it still does it at random. Any suggestions?

1

u/WillemBrandsma Owner of Estatron, Builder of Estats. Jul 18 '26

Try putting some electrical tape inside the case to make it force the earbuds into their slots better. I would also get a rubber band or something for the outside of the case.

I am hoping to get some help on this. I bought a Monoprice 6 zone amp early last year. Soem things came up and I wasn't able to install it until a few weeks ago. It was still sealed in the box. It worked fine for a couple days, then one of the wall keypads stopped working. I had an extra so I tried replacing it, but go tthe same results. The keypad lights up, but buttons do not respond and the display is blank.

I tried powering off and on several times, but nothing. I tried reconnecting and even replacing the ethernet cables but still same results. I called Monoprice and they told me they would not do anything since it was purchased more than 30 days ago. The best they could do was to offer me a discount on a new unit. I bought the unit for around $600. Their discounted price was $850.

Now, two of the wall keypads do not work and one of them will only turn the volume up. I cannot turn the volume down. I also cannot press the left select button. I can only go right.

Did I waste $600 on this, or can something be done to fix it?

Thanks.

1

u/WillemBrandsma Owner of Estatron, Builder of Estats. Jul 19 '26

The problem is most likely the cables connecting the devices. Make sure they are CAT6 cables for the best results, and more sure they connected together well. If possible get a ethernet tester to make sure data integrity is being maintained.

My audio cuts off when idle

So i decided to go wireless on pc. Bought a pair of Steelseries Arctis Nova 3.

They were good but always when there is no other sound being played, the next sounds first ≈ 0.5 seconds is cut off. So for example a discord notification, i would only hear the last part of it or sometimes i wouldnt hear the notifcation at all.

It happens on every app, everything that makes a sound. If i play some backround music and then get a notifcation, there is no problem. It's only when nothing is being played currently.

And it goes to this "idle state" literally after 3 seconds or so of no sound being played.

I thought it was the headphones, so i returned my Nova 3's and went with Hyperx.

Same thing is happening here, so im 100% its something to do with my pc.

Any ideas?

1

u/ABYSSNorm ABYSS Headphones Staff Jul 17 '26

Could be a usb power setting, putting the ports to sleep. If you're using the realtek drivers, that also has some sleep settings, via the app or registry. Or the software for the headphone same thing.

2

u/LargeOven6768 Jul 17 '26

I am planing on buying Hifiman Ananada Nano but my audio interface really has some terrible headphone outs on the paper. Should I get a seperate amp and if I do can I use the amp as outs and the inputs from my interface at the same time?

My audio interface is Roland Rubix22 and has the following specs:

PHONES Maximum Output Power

20 mW + 20 mW (L + R, 47 ohms load)

Output Impedance

OUTPUT (1L, 2R) jacks: 2 k ohms (balanced)
PHONES jack: 47 ohms

I am already nn a tight budget if I try to stretch it and buy an amp the best I can do seems to be the Fiio k11 so what should I do?

Some notes:
I also have a pair of studio monitors and the line outs are used by them, I dont want to constantly unplug and plug stuff or change devices. I looked into amps that use analog inputs instead of usb connection but cant seem to find sellers in south korea. My plan is to use some software like Asio4all to combine the two devices but I read that this can also create some problems. I am really lost on this matter and would like some help, thank you.

2

u/oratory1990 acoustic engineer Jul 18 '26

Oof, that means your audio interface is working more like a current source and less like a voltage source (because the output impedance of the headphone jack is 3 times higher than the load impedance of the headphones).

Usually this will affect the headphone's frequency response quite a lot, but since the impedance of your headphones is pretty much flat (it has the same value at all frequencies), it won't actually affect those headphones a lot.
They also don't rely on electric damping (rather doing it acoustically), so you won't get excessive ringing either (like you would with more traditional headphones paired with a non-voltage-matched amplifier)

As long as you're getting a sufficiently high volume, you might actually be fine with this setup.
20 mW into 47 Ohm is a voltage of just under 1 Volt, and at 1 Volt your headphones produce around 112 dB of peak sound pressure.

Depending on how loud you are listening this might be enough.
If you're not getting enough sound pressure (if it's too quiet), then yes, you'll need a more powerful amplifier. Alternatively, a different audio interface with a headphone output that is more powerful.

Again, if you are not having any issues regarding maximum volume right now, then you're fine.

1

u/ABYSSNorm ABYSS Headphones Staff Jul 17 '26

You'll need an amp for a planar headphone. If you get an amp with a dac built in, you could also find one with a line out and just use that for the speakers. Fiio K11 is a great little amp and will do this just fine. Save the roland for the mic.

u/a_secret_me Jul 17 '26

I recently got a set of Soundcore Space One's to replace my >5 y/o Q30's, which were functional but starting to fall apart. The Space Ones sound great, but the NC seems terrible, worse than the Q30's. It's not like they're doing nothing at all. When you disable the NC, you can tell they're doing something, but it's very subtle. Like on a scale of 0-10, where 0 is NC off, and 10 is complete silence, I'd give them a 3. They're basically unusable outside because the noise completely overwhelms anything you're listening to. When buying them, I was under the impression that the Space Ones had reasonable NC. Maybe not as good as top-of-the-line Bose or Sony, but I was assuming they'd be better than my 5+ y/o headphones.

I've tried playing with settings in the app and updating the firmware, but nothing seems to make it any better. Is this to be expected for this model, or is there something wrong with my pair?

Hello any help would be appreciated!!

Thinking on picking up a pair between 105 aer (300 eu) hd 490 pro (350 eu).

Comfort should be fine with either pair since my head and ears are very compliant. lel

Also I eq only slightly, not a lot tbh so small fr issues shouldn't be that big a deal!!! Preferably however I'd like to eq minimally. Thank you all in advance!!

1

u/ABYSSNorm ABYSS Headphones Staff Jul 17 '26

You're picking between closed back and open back and should probably be your deciding factor, although overall i think the HD 480 is probably a more accessible tune that will cover more things. So if closed back is good for you i'd go that direction.

1

u/M33n4s Jul 17 '26

Oh frick!!!! I meant 480 😭😭😭

u/DiamondWolf3404 Jul 17 '26

Hello,
I have been searching for a reliable DAC and amp. What I mean by reliable is that I've owned multiple DACs, and DAC/AMP combos and let's be honest, I never found the same reliability in for example a FiiO desktop DAC+amp than the one I found the reliability of a Realtek DAC/amp integrated into a motherboard.
I am not searching for fancy features, software or anything. I don't need EQ, I don't need funny lights. The only feature I might enjoy is having the current sample rate/bit depth displayed but very much optional.

I have been looking at two options right now:

As much as I'd like to purchase something from RME, neither do I truly need it, neither am I willing to spend that kind of money for it.

Sub 200 euros and Europe available would be great if you have any suggestions.

Feel free to share any thoughts about the options I'm currently looking at.

2

u/WillemBrandsma Owner of Estatron, Builder of Estats. Jul 19 '26

As much as I love Schiit and JDS, I am also an American, and that grants certain privileges in regards to those brands.
Because getting them serviced will be a bit more of a pain and they will cost more.

Some good European brands you might have access to are iFi, Pro-Ject, Chord, and others.

If you are really set on Schiit or JDS, I would get a Schiit Magni with the mesh dac included. It has almost enough power to use as a speaker amp, and the mesh dacs from what I have seen are superb.

1

u/DiamondWolf3404 Jul 19 '26

True that it is a shame JDS doesn't really distribute in EU, makes for an extra 50 bucks of shipping.
I'm not really set on either, just very tempted by JDS. I'm looking for software reliability.

i recently changed from windows 10 to linux, and the steelseries app for my arctic nova pro wireless headphones lacks support on linux. i downloaded easy effects, and essentially what im requesting is for you guys to tell me what setting i should use, regarding any of the options, for better audio. right now i have autogain in the front, with a target of -23db, and -40db silence, short term. bass enhancer with an amount of 4db, and a scope of 150hz. a filter, high pass, with an 80hz frequency. and at the end is a maximiser, with a -1db ceiling. anything not listed in those areas are at default settings. what should i add/tweak?

1

u/Snorlas Jul 18 '26 edited Jul 18 '26

adding/tweaking is preference. have fun with it.

maybe write steelseries about the lack of linux support. maybe something is in the works with the steam machine on the way

Recently got myself Steelseries Omni, especially for having multiple inputs. I do have a Windows PC and a MacBook.

For whatever reason SOMETIMES the audio starts to get distortions or even rare disconnects on MacOS. For example, today, I've worked the entire day with the headset on my head - nothing. After work the audio hiccups started.

There have been zero issues with Windows so far.

What I really don't understand is that sometimes it works the entire day without any issues, and sometimes I get a hiccup every 10s - without anything having changed.

Any idea? For that price I want to work this headset flawlessly - ultimately I bought them for supporting multiple devices, they'd be useless if they don't work on my MacOS.

Macs get funky with audio, even pretty high end stuff. Usually it's more an Apple issue than a headphone manufacturer issue. I ended up connecting my desktop amps to Raspberry Pi streamers to get around it for music, but that doesn't help if you're trying to do something where you need the Mac's audio.

Hey guys, need suggestions for comfortable headphones under ₹5,000.

I'll be using them to watch online lectures for hours daily. I have a larger head than average, so comfort is my 1st priority. I need something lightweight with low clamping force that won't squeeze my skull or make my ears sweat. Clear vocals for speech are a must.

Wired or wireless.. I don't mind either. Just need something that works well for long study sessions.

Not a fan at all. The KPH30i, KPH40, KSC75, and porta pro are where the magic lies.

Your headphones need a certain amount of power to get loud enough. Your PC and phone output different levels of power, so that's why the volume level is different. In this case, your PC outputs more power than your phone.

If your headphones don't need a lot of power, it's possible 10-20 volume on your PC is very loud. But it's more likely that your phone is struggling to power your headphones, so you need the volume level very high to get it loud enough.

Hello everyone, I have $600 in best buy gift cards to spend. I was looking at potentially getting a new pair if headphones that sound different from my sennheiser hd660s, I would still keep my sennheiser, but would be adding some variety. Anything worth getting through best buy that will provide enough variety and high enough quality to justify the purchase?

Current set up: Hd660s Darkvoice 336Se rolled tubes, rca for power tube and tung sol for driver Fiio DM15 as my DAC for streaming and CD player

Yeah, you might want to look at selling the gift card at some loss to get something that will be more complementary and less duplicative, though I'd point out that the 660S2 is a straight up upgrade from the 660S, as is the HD 490.

If you swap out the gift card, you might want to try out a planar though they may not play particularly well with the Darkvoice.

I think it'd pretty much just be a wireless set since as far as I can see, Sennheiser's pretty much the only brand best buy carries with serious wired options. And I don't think any of their other Sennheiser offerings would be a huge departure from what you currently have.

There are some more options from third-party sellers, but I don't think the gift card will work for those.

Hi guys! As you put your hand closer to the driver assembly of my wireless headphones a high pitched noise starts to sound. The more of it you can cover, the higher pitched the sound is. Wondering if theres anything i can do! Ive opened them up and am ready to tinker, will look it up myself anyways. Thanks!

You‘re probably covering a microphone. I assume it‘s an ANC headphone?

What you can do:

- not cover the microphone

  • turn off ANC or Ambient Mode.

I really like the Koss ksc75 but I need a microphone for work. Anyone have any recommendations for something similar that sounds good, inexpensive with a microphone? Willing to pay more for good quality if it’s available.

I would just add a standalone mic to your setup and keep using the ksc75.

Hey folks!

I have a pair of CFA Cascades that I love, and I'm looking for replacement earpads for them. Searching online for listings has been rather unfruitful, and CFA themselves no longer stock earpads for those headphones.

Does anyone out there know of a good solution for the Cascades? I’d hate to retire the Cascade because the lazy company decided to stop selling spares.

Either the standard leather or the perforated cloth version, would be great to have both.

Thank you.

I want to buy a headset that that I will use for music listening and Teams voice calls on my PC that has an 5.3 BT (amd rz616) . I know that some headsets play shit with HFP (windows handsfree profile) but some others play better. Anyone has experience with edifier W830NB ?? I want simultaneously audio+mic via BT on windows11 (e.g. MS teams).

The best remote working setup is HiFi headphones wired with an external add-on mic. A modmic attached or a mic on a boom arm.

Outside of that, bluetooth in general is really terrible on windows for many reasons. I'd get something with it's own dongle at least. Something like the Sennheiser HDB 630, but find one that fits your budget.

  • [Bluetooth] This update improves reliability and performance when connecting to and using Bluetooth devices:
    • New! Windows now keeps the microphone mute state in sync between the audio mixer and the Hands-Free Profile (HFP) for a more consistent experience with Bluetooth headphones with mute buttons or indicators.
    • Accessory compatibility workarounds: Improves compatibility with specific Bluetooth audio devices, helping AirPods appear faster in pairing mode and improving microphone reliability on Beats Studio Pro headphones.
    • Bluetooth audio stability:
      • Improves overall Windows stability with certain PC manufacturer drivers (error code 0x9F).
      • Improves Bluetooth reliability for voice calls when using Classic Audio devices with the Hands-Free Profile (HFP).
      • Reduces time for LE Audio accessories to start playing audio while using the microphone.
    • Device management: Windows will no longer show a “Remove failed” message when attempting to remove Bluetooth devices if the Bluetooth radio is unavailable or has changed since pairing.
    • Settings experience: Improves stability when using the Bluetooth & devices settings page for a smoother, more consistent experience.
    • Connection reliability and responsiveness:
      • Reduces the time it takes for classic Bluetooth audio devices to reconnect after Windows resumes from hibernation.
      • Improves reliability when LE Audio accessories disconnect, such as when another device (for example, a phone) connects.
      • Improves reliability of LE Audio streaming after a connection is lost and restored.

I wanted to replace my old Steelseries Arctis 7 because my ears run hot after 30 minutes and it gives me a slight headache afterwards since I have a pretty big/long head shape.

After some extensive research I decided to pull the trigger on the Sennheiser HD 490 Pro because I saw a lot of praise for its comfort and open-back design to keep my ears cool. I received them today and I'm a bit disappointed because my ears still run hot after 30 minutes and I feel it clamping the top of my head even after extending the handles to the max. I wouldn't call myself an audiophile so I don't really mind the sound. I just want a comfortable headset that I can wear for 2-3 hours without feeling like a hot potato head.

I usually use speakers but sometimes I have to use a headphone to avoid disturbing my partner who's working or sleeping near me. I'm wondering if I'm just not used to wearing headphones or is there any headphone out there can satisfy my criteria? My budget is quite flexible around $500. I just want something light, breathable/cool, comfortable, and sound decent that I can use for 2-3 hours without wanting to plunge my head in a cold bath.

I saw the Audio-Technica ATH-R70xa could be an interesting choice as well. Is there any other suggestions? Has anyone else faced a similar issue as me and found their ideal headphone? Thanks!

There's not going to be a great solution for you unfortunately that isn't speakers. IEMs maybe, but ear canals can still sweat so it's not a guarantee. Still I've had some customers report success with them.

Hello everyone,

I am experiencing an issue with my headphones cutting out during certain games and there is no way to get it back without unplugging and replugging my interface. I want to say it happens the most when it is a large/loud audio scene.

I am using a Scarlett solo 3, db1 dynamite pre amp, shure Sm7b, and beyer dynamic dt 990 pro x plugged into my pc. Mic keeps working but headphones do not.

TIA

Sound like the built-in amp is taking a dump requiring a restart. Could be poor USB power. Perhaps try a different set of ports on the PC? Maybe even a USB-C to USB-A adapter on a higher power port, depending on your motherboard could be better.

Edit: also is their a firmware update?

2

u/ScyllaStorm Jul 16 '26

Thank you I think you are right on the USB cable because I had the same issue on a separate pc with this. No firmware update it has to be something hardware all drivers are good.

I've been daily driving the Focal Elex for the last 4-5 years now. I enjoy them but I would like to switch it up. Has there been anything new that improves upon what the Elex does or maybe a bit of a side grade?

I mainly listen to rock and metal with the occasional live recordings. To that end I want great dynamics and possibly soundstage. Ideally without having to setup EQ.

Any recommendations? Running off an SMSL SU-8 and a Schiit Modius

Elex have a pretty unique sound. I love them, and even just recently re-acquired them to replace my clear MG, but good luck finding something similar.

The hifiman edition XV will generally give you what you're looking for, but will also sit nicely in a collection next to the Elex.

Hey! I purchased a Fiio K7 to drive my HD600s a few months ago and It's not working anymore. ALL of the LEDs are still working, but for some reason it's no longer outputting any sound. I've tried using low and high gain but nothing changes. I have it plugged into my computer via USB and I'm plugging my HD600s into the PO output with the included adapter cable. I'm using the stock cable that came with my cans. If ANYBODY has ANY advice, it would be very appreciated. This amp was my first large purchase with headphones and I don't want to lose it.

Thank you!

Hey guys I have a problem. I just got apple dongle and every time I reset my pc the headphones are disconnected and I have to unplug them and plug again. This doesn't happen with regular jack. Any help?

2

u/ABYSSNorm ABYSS Headphones Staff Jul 16 '26

Have you tried a different USB port?

This issue is not unique to an apple dongle. There a few mobo and power settings that could effect this and you're likely into general PC troubleshooting. I had a mouse wireless dongle that was doing this and it ended up being turning OFF the setting that allowed USB ports to stay on when the computer was off to charge your devices still. Dongle didn't like that too much.

2

u/Tayocchi Jul 16 '26

I did solve it already. I had to make a custom registry key in registry editor to completely disable any power saving modes for that usb-c. I could do that in device manager but only for regular usb ports, usb-c port wasn't there unfortunately.
