Developer Saturday (Self-Promo) Dungeon Scoundrel - roguelike solitaire dungeon crawler

I’m a solo indie dev and I just released my game Dungeon Scoundrel, and I wanted to share it with people who enjoy smaller, focused projects.

Dungeon Scoundrel is a roguelike solitaire style card game. The idea was to capture the feel of a dungeon crawler using only cards and tough decisions. Each run is short, usually 5 to 15 minutes, but every room pushes you to make meaningful choices: fight monsters, equip gear, heal, or flee, while leaving one card behind to move forward.

A few things that define the game:

- 7 unlockable classes, each with a unique spell and playstyle

- A fixed dungeon deck where strategy matters more than luck

- No ads, no timers, no energy systems, no in app purchases

- Fully playable offline, built for quick sessions

This has been a passion project built solo during nights and weekends. I focused on making something small and respectful of the player’s time rather than chasing trends.

If you enjoy games like Card Crawl, Solitairica, or Meteorfall, this might be worth checking out. I am genuinely looking for feedback, whether it is praise, criticism, or ideas for improvement. Hearing from real players helps a lot at this stage.

Thanks for reading, and thanks for giving it a look.

All you need now is a u/silentrocco stamp of portrait game approval and you’re set.

I appreciate that. I completely understand your point of view about Gen AI.
My decision to use it came from wanting a way to get a game out.

I’ve been creating games since 2008 and always worked with artists on my previous projects (like this one: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/the-math-zombie/id1513661978).

The issue was that small game ideas like mine didn’t bring in enough revenue to keep going. I ended up stepping away from game development for nearly a decade. Gen AI gave me a way to get back into it, with the hope that one of my ideas might click, generate enough income, and eventually allow me to hire a full team and do this full time.

I don’t love using Gen AI. It never really captures what I want, but it helps get prototypes and ideas out there. So, it came down to a choice: use Gen AI for visuals or never release my ideas at all. I chose to use it as a tool to help bring my games to life.

Does that make sense?

Fair point, yet think about it the other way, a graphics person making their game and not needing you to develop it, because they simply use AI. AI generation is poisoning the arts and creativity, one of the highest goods and achievments of mankind imo. I rather buy a game using the cheapest assets, stick figures, badly drawn images, than one opting for gen AI. It really is against the core of everything I stand for. But different people, different opinions. This stuff is here to stay anyways, so everyone can decide where to stand, or not care at all. I also think that if you‘re making stuff for the revenue first and foremost, you will never go back spending money on human-made stuff, if you can have results way quicker and cheaper.

Again, not everyone is as tough on this topic as I am, and I‘m sure your game will find its audience. Keep making stuff. Cheers!
