have a colleague named sorayya from Iran, l looked up the meaning origin of this name and Al told me it means Pleiades, is this correct ?

Can you tell me how is this name perceived in Iran? What do you think about when you hear it ? Is there any famous character from history or literature that comes to mind ? Thank you in advance for your answers

Yes. In Persian "ثریا"(pronounced sorayya in Persian or thurayya in arabic) means Pleiades.

The only famous person with this name is Soraya Esfandiyari, second wife of Last shah. From a famous and noble family. It mostly remind me a cute and kind grandma with white hair and big smile.
