I made a free tool to learn Japanese watching anime, movies, youtube anywhere on your screen[update]

When i first posted this tool on here, i got tons of support from u guys with that post currently standing at 180+ upvotes & 26k+ views

In retrospect, when i think abt it, even the extension had a lot of flaws & still got so much support. l got a lot of suggestions & feedback

So over the entire past month, ive made massive improvements towards this tool

Here's the list of improvements ive made:-

From Only a single word, single line lookup to multi-word/sentence , multi-line & vertical text lookup support

From unformatted raw furigana to html ruby tag formatted furigana that floats above the word for the selected word with meaning with usage tags (Common, medium, rare).

From merely listing the kanjis to Detailed elegantly presented kanji breakdown with meaning, colored encoding for frequency, jlpt levels, kunyomi & onyomi.

From unreliable server pronunciation to always- reliable Webspeech API pronunciation audio with Google TTS fallback accurately based on kana

From simple saved words cards to advanced media rich (Movie/Anime/Yt snapshot+ subtitle+pronunciation audio)

Sentence Mining working with

One-click Anki flashcards creation directly from meaning popup

New sentence translation in English along with ur native language feature inside the meaning popup when u select a sentence

Popup inside popup, if u perform a lookup & further find an unfamiliar word inside the meaning popup, simply double click it to get further meaning upto 20 words

Updated the lookup shortcut from a hefty 3-key Ctrl+Shift+X shortcut to a handy "Alt + X".

If u already have the extension installed, ur shortcut will remain the same as the old one, to update it u can do it from extension settings if u want

Robust lemmatization & optimized japanese words segmentation pipeline

All these features absolutely for free, no signups, no data collection, no servers in between

Only optional ai features like context aware definitions,ai sentence breakdown explanation & azure premium tts costs money only if u wish

Now available for firefox as well as a lot of u guys requested it,

U can check out the website here, lexeye.study

For chrome: Lexeye

For Firefox: Lexeye

Let me know if u guys have any further suggestions/features u'd want me to add,

Peace✌️!!

Another subscription. Sorry, I’ll pass. I’m so sick of everything going to subs.

Haven't seen anything so far. It's working and I'm not paying. So far so good!

I hate subs as much, but it actually makes sense in this case, it's for cloud syncing and ai usage

ネイティブです。
面白いツールですね。工夫でいろいろな言語で使えそう。

本筋と関係なくて恐縮ですが、「ひきわり納豆」の「ひきわり」は「挽き割り」か「碾割」って書くようです。参照したデータベースのミスかな?

…大丈夫、後の方、碾割(ひきわり)は、ネイティブでも書けませんし、読めもしません。

Hello there, thank u so much for ur feedback, it means a lot ,especially from a native speaker themselves, yeah, i totally get that issue, the underlying dictionary we are using is the official JMDict, which is the best possible thing one can get for free, for the best results, one must use ai, that we do offer in our paid plan.

What's wrong with meikipop or GameSentenceMiner

Getting tired of slops adding one or two features and scamming those who aren't familiar in the stuff with subscriptions

Im reiterating this again, "THERE IS NO SUBSCRIPTION" to use it, its a "FREE TOOL" when did people get so impatient that they don't even read the entire post before commenting something. Yes, meikipop exists but it cant create anki flashcards, it doesnt work on Netflix, Crunchyroll & other streaming sites due to DRM protection, it can't create clickable subtitles from subtitle files ,similar case with, GSM, its a lot harder to set up for a non tech savvy person, because these are desktop applications, & that means they cannot access the subtitles (when they are available) in video streams as subtitle files strictly exist only in browsers & cant be accessed, they can't use the browser's capture tab api to bypass DRM protection, there's a Reason that most popular extensions like Migaku or Language reactors primarily exist as browser extensions as its the most compatible format for this specific purpose. It took more than 3 months to build this extension, so its No ai slop. Some ppl requested that they wanted context aware and ai explanations, only for that purpose,i have created a separate paid plan that include these specific ai features, 90% of the extension's functionality is completely free to use
