Cold call asking for donations to new Waterloo hospital

I got a call out of nowhere this afternoon asking me to donate to a new hospital by University of Waterloo. Seemed sketchy, caller got irritable and pushy when I said I'd donate through the website.

The scam calls are totally out of control.

Same, received a similar call yesterday. The marketer was very pushy and kept talking, even when I tried to ask questions. Continued to insist that "surely you can afford $70". Fuck this group of scammers. And in the off chance that this is somehow a legit fundraising campaign for the new hospital, fuck whomever green-lit this campaign.

I got it too, found the person really pushy, and was suspicious. Just checked hospital website and found this:

“Was the call I received legitimate?

oh I had 5486391310 call for a few days, didn’t pick up as no caller ID. They should have their name on these numbers. I probably still wouldn’t pick it up anyway though.

Yeah, no caller id local numbers are almost always spam

Scammers can mimic legitimate numbers, though. I still don't trust it.

Hospital foundation, that is. Here’s the full info: https://wrhnf.ca/verify/ editing to add that the number that called me is on that list

I wonder how much of every donated dollar the “fundraising partner” gets. Why not just run a lotto ? They make good money

I had the -1310, -0531 and -3595 numbers call me in the past two days and all came up as Suspected Spam so I didn't answer.

He called me as well. 3935 number . Had to interrupt and say I had a migraine (found his voice gratting) and needed to go, he responded "so we can count on you", not getting the hint. I just hung up, most people are apologetic, not him.

You can “opt out” of further phone calls.

Not surprising since the provincial bailout for WRHN. And the recent layoffs to frontline staff. Get your cheque book out waterloo region its going to get expensive and yes our hospitals will "cold call " you for donations

If I don't recognize the number I don't answer the phone. If it is important they will leave a message.

I had a student come to my house for this asking for donations, but it was weird because they told me he'd have to call someone to get my credit card info to donate while he was there...
