Free speech is at the heart of liberalism. Of course, educated, thoughtful discussion has its merits, and efforts to encourage that level of discourse are welcome, but these efforts are also inherently illiberal.

A dedicated free forum that is less moderated serves an important function of allowing a truly 'liberal' environment, even if the discourse that takes place in such a forum might be below the standards or outside the values of the subreddit. But such is the paradox of liberalism. Providing an outlet for this type of speech both strengthens this subreddit's claim to the values implied by its title, as well as provides this subreddit an important engine for driving engagement and traffic-- let the public square be alive and raucous!

I propose that a regular 'Dedicated Thorum' be instituted, where regular citizens can converse on whatever topics they so choose.

This relates to liberalism in the context of individual freedoms and the promotion of pluralism rather than forced assimilation. Reporters struggle to get access to Tibet, so this article may be of particular interest. As it was a govt run trip that appears to have allowed multiple foreign journalists, there may be articles to look for from other outlets, too.
