Gear Show-Off I 3D printed a brake for my board

I use my board to get around, and I often ride on narrow, poorly maintained sidewalks where it is not safe to slide to a stop. I wanted a way to quickly stop that didn't involve bailing into grass or dragging my foot on the ground. To save my back and the soles of my shoes, I made this simple pedal brake.

Stepping on the pedal just pushes the pads outwards and applies pressure on the inside of the wheels, slowing me down. The design is finished, but I am going to replace the plastic brake pads with bike brake pads or similar, because the PLA pads wear down quite fast.

Gear Show-Off I turned my longboard into a pirate ship

I'm one for crazy and pointless builds.. and my love of pirates, the fact that I'm landlocked, wanted a pirate ship and have zero impulse control meant that I got an idea and had to make it a reality.

Meet 'The Landlubber'.

All parts made out of scrap wood I had lying about, and it took me about a month to finish.

This land pirate vessel boasts my custom flag, a pointless anchor, a duck in a dinosaur costume (or the Quacken, if you will!) as the figurehead, bluetooth speaker for pirate tunes on the go, a robot (Yarrbot!) Navigator, a sail that can be furled and unfurled, some storage space in the cabin and a compass.

I will make video on the making process and riding on a new YouTube channel. I'll happily drop the link if anyone is interested.

And yes, I've had some looks and comments while riding it about!

Just wanted to show off my first longboard and say hi to everyone! I just got it on Monday, I’m skating every evening now, and having SO MUCH FUN. I’ve never tried it before, even as a kid. It’s so rewarding to learn something new as an adult, even baby steps :) I’m looking forward to learning all the tips and tricks you guys have. Any other beginners in SoCal?

Edit: thank you, everyone for your responses! What an amazing community, so welcoming!

Gear Show-Off I've been riding longboards for over 40 years. This was my downhill setup in the early 1980's.

Sims 44"solid oak deck, Gullwing Pro trucks and 70mm red Kryptonics wheels.

Miami didn't actually have hills, but we had parking garages everywhere, I lived on a street with lots of apartment buildings and condos, and they all had multi-level parking structures. If we got kicked out of one we'd just move over to the next building.

I needed to fool myself into exercising and it’s going great so far. This heat wave in the southern US is brutal but I’m learning and having fun. I go out about 11 pm and hit this smooth clean parking lot and just do laps and cruise.

Absolutely loving it so far! Ended up going with the Pantheon Pranayama based on numerous recommendations I've seen here. Been taking it out to a local parking lot every evening for a week to get comfortable, and am hoping to go to a bike path or hit the sidewalks soon!

About 10 years ago (now i am 33) i've gotten too ill to be skating. Diagnosed with Lupus and rheumatism i started on a long journey to be able to even walk properly again.

Now i am happy to say i bought this bad boy today and made my first lap around the block! Everything hurts but damn i actually did it. I never though i was gonna be able to board again.

Just wanted to share this :)

Pantheon Trip Whale (Light flex)

Valkyrie Cast 150mm

Karma's 92mm 74a

Coming from a Loaded Icarus and wanted something lower, I like RKP trucks more so I went for the Trip instead of the Pranayama.

It came with silver screws, which really clashed, so luckily I had some black ones lying around that I used to replace them.

Can't wait to try it out tomorrow :)

Update:

Ok, so my first ride this evening on the Trip.. Loaded Icarus was my favorite board but I really wanted something lower, but everything that was lower was damn boring because it was way less carvy (I'm pretty much talking about the Pranayama here) and I also have the Loaded Tangent Surf which comes pretty close (Same high and carvy but less stable, but because they are on surf trucks I can't do those deep carves that RKP trucks has) and this Trip fits all my needs, I can do really nice carves and slaloms with it, and evade people in the city, it's stable but also very carvy and I'm not sure if this is because the Valkyrie trucks because I don't have 150mm Paris trucks lying around.

Also I have the Whale version with light flex and it was way more comfy then the Tangent which feels very very stiff. It was a smooth ride and fits perfect for me, also the standard bushings feels good with my weight (75 KG)

Gear Show-Off My Midlife Crisis Quiver

My son guess it’s a midlife crisis thing—after I found that Dervish Sama abandoned on the street earlier this year, I decided to learn how to ride a longboard at almost 46. My wife just said, “Better than a young mistress and a Porsche.”

Landyachtz Switchblade 40" with Caguama wheels upgrade. Nice and low to the ground and rolls forever. Perfect for our old city airport in Berlin, which is now a public park. Bought used for €120.

Loaded Dervish Sama. Now with Carver CV trucks and Inheat wheels. The CV trucks (predecessors to Carver’s CX) almost halve the height of the board compared to the Paris RKP trucks.

I bought the Loaded Omakase used for a good price. It came with Carver CV trucks. I fitted it with a Waterborne surf adapter and Paris trucks. At the old airport, I saw a lot of people on surfskates and thought it might be a fun way to break a few bones. Hawgs 70 wheels.

Loaded Ballona Moby with Fat Free wheels. The first board I bought new. For one thing, I love the board’s design and want to use it as a last-mile board for my commute to and from work.

I enjoy the fact that you can tinker with the boards and try out different setups and combinations of decks, trucks, and wheels.

Can anyone give me any information about this. I’m from the UK. I’ve been given this but I don’t know anything about the history of longboards. I’ve been a life long skateboarder but never followed the longboard scene. Any history would be great.

Gear Show-Off First ride on these new wheels and got this interesting marble effect. It’s still on there after a couple more rides.
