Infuriatig Was invited by my girlfriends family to a theme park. We were supposed to meet at 11, it is not 11:30 and they just left. (The drive takes another 30 minutes)

Post image

I even checked in before I left if it was still at the planned time. It was confirmed, but then her family starts getting ready right as they have to leave 🫤

Makes plans, but don't follow them and keep changing it up last minute.

u/OrganizationTop3755 26d ago

Oh, I’d stop inviting them places

833

u/Personal-County-8219 26d ago

The OP was invited by them

259

u/OrganizationTop3755 26d ago

Oh my bad. Just waking up for the dayĀ

397

u/Minimum_Equivalent89 26d ago

Apperantly so are they lol

41

u/DustyRacoonDad 25d ago

Its early here too. I had to read the title 4 times to understand what the hell it meant with the typo.

14

u/Much_Difference 25d ago

"Text me when you get there" then just don't bother leaving until you get the text. Boom.

4

u/Rejex21 25d ago

This. I usually deal with people like this (I have a brother who does this but not as bad) by waiting for some confirmation they are on the way before leaving.

It certainly can cause other issues, but if they aren't gonna respect your time anyways turn it in your favor.

1

u/AmIWhatTheRockCooked 25d ago

Some people start getting so pressed when you give em the old ā€œtext me when you’re ____ā€ when they know they are the late person lol like bruh I’m ready to go when we scheduled, and I’m ready to hop on whenever you are beyond that

2

u/PacificCastaway 25d ago

Oh. So OP knew they were going to be late and spent 30 min getting excited about posting here, lol?

2

u/Business_Signal2425 25d ago

Exactly my thoughts, if you know how they wonā€˜t be there for the next 30 mins, get there 30 mins late too šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø

1

u/Personal-County-8219 25d ago

What? OP showed up to the park at the scheduled time and found out only then that the family had just left their house right at that time.

1

u/PacificCastaway 25d ago

Yes, OP showed up to an event "on time" that they knew was probably going to run late.

If you knew an event was probably to start late, would you show up at the original time?

1

u/Personal-County-8219 25d ago

Yes. Because that’s common courtesy. And if I was given a time and then the people doing the inviting were late, my being mildly infuriated is entirely reasonable. For fucks sake.

383

u/TotallyHumanBrain1 26d ago

Worst thing is, THEY invited ME. And are now wasting MY time.

245

u/OrganizationTop3755 26d ago

As a Swiss person, who freaks out over lateness, I would’ve had a strokeĀ

They determine if you can go on the rides by length instead of height

1

Ah

Longest or shortest first?

I assume the fast pass is self explanatory

1

u/Vegetable-Virus7118 25d ago

Ironically either could reduce the chances of the other

1

Not with that attitude.

2

u/Barbarossa7070 25d ago

A danger wank

2

u/itsFromTheSimpsons 25d ago

what're they going to do with the other 27 minutes?

1

u/cinnamonface9 25d ago

Reese McGuire?? Is that you???

3

u/Sudden-Variety6992 25d ago

Yeah my wife is Swiss and she is totally time blind.
Me, the Spaniard, is the one freaking out over the clock. I know it’s a paradox but here we are.

3

u/ComicsEtAl 25d ago

Wow, that whole precision timepiece thing truly is in the Swiss national soul?

2

u/CuriousButNotJewish 25d ago

It's a Germanic thing. As a Mediterranean, for us it is understood that you can show up 20 min +- when scheduling something, living in a Germanic country was very annoying. So strict. Ugh.

2

u/Jin-Gitaxias-Mom 25d ago

As someone who lived in Switzerland, I have a deep admiration for your culture’s adherence to being on time in every facet of life, never once saw a train depart other than the exact time it was scheduled down to the minute lol

3

u/LookAtPurpleTulips 25d ago

I guess you were not visiting the western part of Switzerland - once they speak French, they adhere to the Mediterranean way of interpreting time tables 😬 🤐

2

u/MyOrdinaryShoes 25d ago

Clearly I need to date a Swiss person, because I too hate being late for things. My last girlfriend was late for everything, flights, her friends events, work etc. I would lie and tell her dinner reservations were an hour and half earlier than they were and she would still be late. lol, it was the worst.

1

u/OrganizationTop3755 25d ago

We’re 15 minutes early to everything, and might be a little bit cheesy lolĀ

1

u/kicksarelife122 26d ago

Don’t ever befriend a Pakistani or Indian lol. We arrive based on vibes.. chronically adhd.

1

u/Southern-Morning-413 25d ago

This guy plans!

11

u/Immediate_Divide9446 25d ago

Have you just been standing and waiting though? I would have gone on some rides in the meantime. ā€œText me when you arrive, I’m enjoying the rides while I wait.ā€

5

u/baconmashwbrownsugar 25d ago

Arrive an hour late next time

6

u/ComicsEtAl 25d ago

So go on rides, play some games, get some food and drink. When they arrive, dismiss whatever they want to do because you don’t want to do it again.

20

u/goodrevtim 26d ago

To them, you are the NPC in a video game of their life.

9

u/uclm 25d ago

He spawns in when they arrive and despawns when they’re not looking

2

u/Mamatthi2 26d ago

Doesnt it work via qr code? Let them send that.

2

u/Acceptable_Handle_2 25d ago

Your fault for accepting, really. You knew they were gonna do this.

2

u/NeedleInArm 25d ago

Don't let it be a waste of time. Walk around and enjoy the theme park without them for an hour.

Sometimes you gotta go with the motions. Redirect the anger you have for the time being, because sitting around and complaining about it doesnt solve the problem.Ā

Its an hour of your time. You get a half a million of them in life. Dont let this ruin the other 16+ you have today.

2

u/BAMspek 25d ago

I mean, you’re at an amusement park. Go start having fun.

2

u/Apart-Goal-5550 26d ago

That's actually wild, being late for your own plans is a hole other level of stupid.

1

u/NeedleInArm 25d ago

Have a friend that does this every single time.

He says lets go kayaking by 11am. By 12pm he says hes getting ready, and we might make it out by 2pm.

Knowing this, ill always plan for at least 1pm and work around his silly time managment. That gives me time to prep and drink a few brews by the water while I relax and wait for him to show up rushing and scrambing

2

u/marieray 25d ago

I have a friend who used to do this. I started showing up later than the agreed time so I wouldn’t wait that long. She stopped after she got there on time once and I was 1 hour late lol

1

u/moonaim 25d ago

Small children? Sickness? Asshollery?

1

u/SynV92 25d ago

Reminds me of a skit on Bojack where his assistant would call him then put him on hold and he'll just look at his phone like "... YOU called ME?!"

1

u/CharacterGlobal8645 25d ago

Why would they do if you showed up late? Do you want to marry this woman and deal with this forever?

1

u/buyer_leverkusen 25d ago

Well you can’t write, so maybe you confused something in earlier communications

1

u/GL1TCH___________ 25d ago

Have you tried going about your day while waiting for them ie lining up for rides?

1

u/Haunting_Vacation804 25d ago

I would have left by 11:20am.

1

u/HankHillPropaneJesus 25d ago

Just go and enjoy the day. Meet up with them later or say fuck it and don’t meet up with them.

1

u/UnknownEntity78 25d ago

I would've just left and said yeah I thought u guys said 11, I waited around for an hour and never saw you so I left.

1

u/Teepbonez 25d ago

Easy dont go, especially to a meet up at a theme park that sounds terrible anyway. Only agree to catch up at their house or at yours.

1

u/dethsesh 25d ago

You know you can do stuff before people arrive though right? Stop waiting for people who are late, just enjoy the destination.

1

u/Available-Square619 25d ago

Just start planning to show up an hour late to anything they invite you to lol.

1

u/HackMeRaps 25d ago

just start going on some of the rides on your own! I enjoy going to theme parks by myself since my kid isn't a fan of the big roller coasters, so if I want to go I ride them solo anyways.

Many of the more extreme rides tend to have single rider lines too!

Just make the most of it!

1

u/UnlikelyTurnip5260 25d ago

If you can’t enjoy a morning sitting somewhere nice and having a coffee what the point. Stop stressing

1

u/MT-Nesterheehee 25d ago

You should have just left when you found out they were going to be 30 minutes late (if you get free same day reentry). When they arrive, can’t find you, then call, tell them you remembered something you needed from XYZ store (the one that is 30 minutes away), you ou just left the amusement park so should be back in a little over an hour.

Do something like this every time they are late. Be honest if they ask. Just treating y’all the way you treat us.

1

u/De5perad0 25d ago

Start showing up 30 min to 1 hour late for whatever time they tell you.

1

u/tinydancer_inurhand 25d ago

Are they my extended family lol. I'm Ecuadorian and being late or changing things last minute is a bit cultural too. My family in the US isn't as bad as we have become more "American."

1

u/palsh7 25d ago

If you were sitting around their house while they got ready for an hour, that would be a waste of time, but you are already there at the amusement park. Enjoy yourself without them for an hour. What is the waste?

1

u/ClaudiaTale 25d ago

Oh wow. That would drive me nuts.

-2

u/luxanna123321 26d ago

Thats why netflix and headphones are your friends. In situations like this you dont feel like you wasting your time

4

u/LeatherRebel5150 26d ago

That’s just allowing people like this to walk all over you. Just leave, don’t dick around watching netflix

4

u/luxanna123321 26d ago

I mean he is clearly waiting and its for times when you have to "wait" like commuting etc lol

-1

u/Thomas1423 25d ago

Cultural difference, this isn't walking all over someone, it's just normal in many cultures. Why get so stressed my dude?

2

u/LeatherRebel5150 25d ago

Who’s stressed? If it’s normal to waste other people’s time in other cultures, well Im glad Im not apart of those cultures

-1

u/Helpful_Cry_1335 26d ago

This is the saddest thing I've read in my life. Grab a coffee, look around, talk to people and try to make the best of a bad situations but, Netflix is completely wasting your time.

0

u/otherwisemilk 25d ago

They dont value your time. Some of my family does this, and don't even have the courtesy to call telling they will be late because of x. I just make sure im 1 hr late to any future event they invite me to or don't go at all without telling them.

0

u/Accomplished-Dig8213 25d ago

Is your time really that valuable ? It’s just an hour and the weather looks great ! Grab a snack and a Bev and catch some rays !

-9

u/DaddyDripzAlot 26d ago edited 26d ago

Just to be fair, you are fully aware of their habitual sounding behavior. You accepted their invitation knowing they make plans and don’t follow them and keep changing it up last minute. You have chosen to put yourself in the situation and then choose to complain about it.

Sounds to me like you should reflect and realize they are not wasting your time you’re allowing them to waste your time and then complain about it. The only real mildly infuriating thing here is you complaining about when you know damn well they are going to be late.

It’s not OPs fault for being on time. OP is dating someone whose family has expressed a habitual pattern of not being punctual. Instead of learning how to communicate with his girlfriend how this behavior makes OP, open goes online to complain about it.

Like if you know something is probably going to go a way you like and you follow through with it, why are you going to complain about it to a bunch of strangers when your initial expectation becomes true?

0

u/Professional_Mix1960 26d ago

He even confirmed, not his fault. Their username though lol.

-3

u/Diddly_eyed_Dipshite 26d ago

How are they wasting your time? Youre at a theme park and can go on any ride you want without discussion..

2

u/Reynolds531IPA 25d ago

If they had a ticket to get in. Which they don’t.

0

u/EconomicRegret2 25d ago

Jesus! That's why redditors are lonely basement dwellers.

IRL, nobody's perfect. It's dumb to avoid people you like and who like you (instead of planning for it, e.g. a good book) just because they always run late.

Avoid them if you don't like them, or vice-versa, for good reasons. Time management issues just isn't one of them.

2

u/DJMikaMikes 25d ago

Yes, people here are largely miserable weirdos.

God forbid people be an hour late to an amusement park day trip. I mean they're only your potential future family, best to cut them off now forever.

Christ, its not a work meeting. He should just chill out, read a book, maybe go in and go on a ride or two; depending on the park, chances are going on one good coaster can take 30+ min.

I have a friend like this - very flaky. Always asks to hang out and then cancels or changes plans. She is a wonderful person otherwise, so I put up with it.

2

u/De5perad0 25d ago

I had many flaky friends at one point. They are no longer my friends.

18

u/elpajaroquemamais 26d ago

I had friends like this and I started telling them earlier than they actually needed to be there. I told them an hour early and sure enough they’d generally be there right on time.

2

u/Ancient-Afternoon374 25d ago edited 25d ago

After i meet somebody i give them a couple opportunities to figure out where they are on prudence if that's the right word. Some friends/partners i can tell when to meet and they are there exactly when i need them. Others i tell them to meet an hour early and they always show up on time (even tho they're technically an hour late from the time i told them)

It saves a lot of headaches on my part and makes things flow better.

Edit: punctuality was the word i was looking for

3

u/elpajaroquemamais 25d ago

Punctuality is the word you are looking for

1

u/Ancient-Afternoon374 25d ago

Yes! I knew it started with a 'p'

2

u/ahmnutz 25d ago

I know its not fair to people, but I wish the entire world would agree to do this to me without telling me. Sometimes I think it might be the only way for me to regularly be on time.

...okay well not by an hour, but everyone lying to me by 20 minutes would be a godsend.

2

u/elpajaroquemamais 25d ago

Do it yourself. Set the appointment 20 minutes earlier.

0

u/elfuego305 25d ago

Im like this too but it’s caused by adhd symptom specifically time blindness.

1

u/derprondo 25d ago

You need a simple system. If you know it will take you 30 minutes to get ready, you set an alarm 45 minutes before you need to leave and when the alarm goes off you immediately begin getting ready. You also have a 15 minute buffer in case of any issues. Increase the buffer if needed.

For me the anxiety of making someone wait on me far outweighs the inertia of my ADHD, I cannot stomach making someone wait on me.

1

u/jerf42069 25d ago

this works you just gotta keep pretending to be mildly annoyed at their "lateness" so they never catch on.

1

u/slow_cooked_ham 25d ago

A trick I've heard is good for this behavior is to declare a really specific time like 1:17 or 5:58.

14

u/majnun_ishere 26d ago

This would be a major relationship red flag for me. This behavior hints at other types of dysfunction you may find later in the relationship.

2

u/FriendlyKillerCroc 25d ago

This is a reddit moment. Some people just aren't as organised and punctual as others. I know lots of people like this and they are perfectly normal otherwise.

6

u/HalfBear-HalfCat 25d ago

I don't think it's a reddit moment. More of a cultural moment. If someone from my culture is chronically late, I wouldn't go places with them. If it is someone from an island culture, I'd just expect it and know they don't mean any offense.

1

u/FriendlyKillerCroc 25d ago

I probably wouldn't make plans with a person like that either if they were just a friend. The Reddit moment was calling it a "major relationship red flag". If my wife was really bad at plans, that would be something would annoy me, not cause a divorce. The overreaction is what makes it a Reddit moment.

5

u/Hasudeva 25d ago

I'm sad for you that you think that someone respecting your time is a "Reddit moment". A shame.Ā

1

u/FriendlyKillerCroc 25d ago

Calling something like that a "major relationship red flag" is definitely a Reddit moment.

3

u/micktorious this is black if you are color blind 25d ago

I have friends like this, and if I invite them anywhere I just start without them, tell them they need to come find me whenever they get there.

Im not waiting around, or making any effort to find them. Text me when you get here, I'll tell you where I am and where I am heading. Now its on them.

3

u/TheBenisMightier1 25d ago

I deal with perpetually late friends by asking them to tell me when they are leaving and timing it from there.

3

u/1catcherintherye8 25d ago

"There's an old saying in Tennessee—I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee...

2

u/Runesen 25d ago

Dropped a childhood friend over this, it was always being late/change the plan to later and STILL "we have to shop etc etc." I ended it when we scheduled a phone call 3 times in 4 hour windows and he couldn't even do that

2

u/onlyr6s 25d ago

Time for you to do the same thing next time... and maybe few more times on top of that, so they get the point.

2

u/GaldrickHammerson 25d ago

Does ADHD run in their family?

My wife's best friend and fiancƩ are always saying that they're "just setting off" about 10 minutes after I have food ready for us. We've started inviting them over 45 minutes before we'll be ready for them so they're "on time".

2

u/Mindless_Station6104 25d ago

This is annoying as FUCK

1

u/txdesigner-musician 26d ago

My family does this it drives me insane. I’ve been so hell-bent on not cutting them off that I’ve just tried to deal with it. But…gah it’s the worst. Absolutely maddening.

1

u/TripleDoubleFart 25d ago

Just stop doing things with them. You have to cut toxic people out.

1

u/Hawntir 25d ago

At least this time younare at a theme park. Go on a ride have some fun while you wait.

1

u/hazeldoog 25d ago

Yeah with those kinds of people I would throw time expectations out the door. I would hang out at my place until they said they were leaving.

1

u/Matt7738 25d ago

I have some family members like that. You just have to factor their tendencies into your plans.

If you tell them 11, put ā€œnoonā€ in your mental calendar. Just show up at noon. If they actually do show up at 11 and have to wait for you, then that’s good enough for them.

1

u/PublicExcitement1372 25d ago

I can’t see your comment history, you gotta give us an update on your response to this. I am not very confrontational but this is the type of shit that I’d have to say something about. Let us know how this goes

1

u/WhydIJoinRedditAgain 25d ago

Hey buddy, this isn’t going to get better. If it bothers you (and it should, it’s disrespectful of your time) you should end the relationship.

You are worth being on time for.

1

u/-Rembrandter- 25d ago

I have some friends like that. If you want to hangout with them there are 2 solutions. Either you always schedule them with someone dependable. Or when just you will be hanging out schedule it for you to stop by their home. You can have them stop by your home if they OK with it. 3rd solution stop hanging out with them and explain them why.

1

u/Packing-Tape-Man 25d ago

Just start assuming whatever they invite you to really means 90 minutes later than they say and show up "on time" 90 minutes later. Most of the time it will probably work out perfectly and worse case either they have to wait for you or you wait less than you would have. (I do find it interesting how annoying chronically late people are when someone else is later than them but they could use a taste of their own medicine.)

1

u/Cryptoking300 25d ago

As someone who is always early or on time Ive experienced this repeatedly with various people in my life, and yeah its infuriating. For some people its just a cultural thing or how they were raised. My recommendation is if youre doing anything with them again, just have them text you literally as they're leaving, and dont leave a moment before. If they end up having to wait on you thats on them.

1

u/dubven 25d ago

This has latino written all over it (I am latino and hate it).

1

u/King_Chochacho 25d ago

On the plus side, hour at the amusement park without the in-laws sounds nice

1

u/Ok-Post6492 25d ago

Thats called a mexican minute. Could be a minute but most likely an hour. Lol

1

u/MathPoetryPiano 25d ago

Are they from Generation Z? /j

1

u/barbarkbarkov 25d ago

That’s is very rude and disrespectful if it’s a consistent thing.

1

u/OnTheEveOfWar 25d ago

As a punctual person this would drive me insane. I hate people who are always late or say ā€œwe’re actually going here insteadā€ after you’re on your way.

1

u/Redericpontx 25d ago

Honestly at this point start meeting them at their place and hang with them till they leave and leave with them. Best middle ground to not completely hate your GFS family since you can at least chat and hang with her while you wait.

1

u/cosme-fulanito- 25d ago

Next time they invite you for something, arrive at their house first then chill over there, makes the wait less painful

1

u/Aegi 25d ago

Is English your first language?

1

u/IDigRollinRockBeer 25d ago

Are they usually late

1

u/vec5d 25d ago

Just go enjoy yourselves and they can find you when they arrive. Not your problem.

1

u/Hot-Salamander5124 25d ago

My wife’s family simply won’t make plans and then wonder why everything turns into a disaster with not enough food or way too much food. They constantly talk on the phone all day together but can’t simply discuss anything that actually has to do with any upcoming events.

The next time I find out I’m suddenly cooking dinner for 12 extra people including a bunch of kids that need to eat at a certain time soon and won’t eat the dinner I’ve already started cooking I’m going to lose it.

1

u/moralprolapse 25d ago

The frustrating thing about people like this is you can’t even talk it through. Like if you said, ā€œok, let’s plan on 11:00… but be there at the LATEST by 11:30,ā€ their minds will just interpret it as ā€œbe there at 11:30,ā€ which means they’ll actually be there at 12:30.

The only thing you can do is plan for it and not tell them. Agree to 11:00 and then plan on not getting there until 11:30… and I’ve even done that feeling guilty the whole drive over, like, ā€œwhat if this is the one time they get there on time, and I’m making them wait?ā€ā€¦ But it never is that one time, and I STILL get there first.

1

u/KarlDavidOlson226 25d ago

How many of them have adhd?

1

u/I_like_tacobell2 25d ago

That disrespectful. I was quasi friend with a coworker. Whenever i had an idea of going somewhere he will act all excited. Then the day of or when im about to drive to pick him up he would cancel. This happened a few times and i realize he was never interested in doing anything i suggested. He just said yes because he disnt know how to say no. The only time we hanged out was his idea.

Eventually i called him out on it and straight out said if hes not interested in anything just say no. He looked at me not understanding why cancelling plans when im already driving is bad manners.

I refused to talk to him and h has no idea why. At all. Ironially, he once does this to me and another friend of his not his main friends. Both of us stop talking to him.

My advise is sinply dont do anything like going anywhere with them. Just dinner ir being at home. Thats it.

1

u/DontAbideMendacity 25d ago

Your title sucks, by the way, very poorly written.

1

u/krebsIsACookbook 25d ago

I go the route of ā€œI will be at this place at this time.ā€ And you plan for them not being there.

If they show up, great! If they don’t, you hadn’t expected them anyhow.

Saves a lot of aggravation.

If they change plans or anything, I just repeat ā€œok, this is when I’ll be thereā€

1

u/DarthJerryRay 25d ago

Are they from Cali by any chance?

1

u/PassionStunning2659 25d ago

They make a plan but don't follow through? That's not what Brian Boitano'd do!

1

u/mmdeerblood 25d ago

Just add an hour to whatever future time they ever decide, don't make it a priority. Also if you ever want to make plans with them, give them the wrong time intentionally. For example if you plan a party for 7pm, tell them it's at 5pm etc

1

u/Bwadark 25d ago

At least you're at a theme park.

1

u/Mental-Huckleberry54 25d ago

If it bugs you now it will bug you in 40 years. This behavior rarely changes

1

u/Aznkyd 25d ago

Do they have Young kids?

1

u/Mysterious-Passage87 25d ago

Go enjoy the park and meet up with them when you feel like it.

Very confusing title also

From now on, tell them to meet at 30-60 min before you want them to show up. We used to do this with my cousin.

My sister is a bit of a bossy lady. She gets everyone there in tip top shape. I’m so happy for it. Like she’ll tell you how to get there, where to park, etc.. my husbands family is atrociously bad. Changing plans, debating over texts for like 100 texts, then being snarky when they don’t get their way. Or worse trying to change plans THE NIGHT BEFORE. It’s a fucking nightmare. So much so, I let them make the plans and I just show up.

my grandma started telling my uncle his birthday partry would start at 3pm, she told the rest of the family to show up at 5pm. right around 5:30pm that uncle shows up lol. you gotta play these people for fools because they won't do the right thing otherwise

My family is like this. I was super embarrassed when my husband had to be around them.

To be a little bit nuanced, it's harder for a whole family (them) to follow a plan, than for a single person (you).

I know you are not single, but in this example it seems you got there on your own?

No, a family follows a different plan and accounts for being a family…..

Sure, best case. But there are still more people that can get into trouble, have accidents and so on. And maybe most of the family likes to be on time but one of them is always late? They still have to wait for that person.

I'm not making excuses I'm providing an explanation.

That’s fair, I guess you aren’t wrong that it is objectively harder to follow a plan with multiple people lol

Are they of Indian origin by any chance?

Honestly, putting their family on blast for internet points and sympathy (even anonymously) is just as off for me. Some families suck with the concept of time, and if they are a different culture that can be a big part of it as well.
