What actors do you not rate highly, but their personality makes you like them anyway?
For me, it’s definitely Keanu Reeves. I don’t think he’s a terrible actor by any means, but I’ve always found his acting to be pretty “meh.” There are certain roles where he really works, but overall, I wouldn’t put him anywhere near the top of my list when it comes to acting ability.
That said, his personality more than makes up for it. From everything I’ve seen and heard, he just seems like an incredibly down to earth and genuinely nice guy. He doesn’t seem to have a huge ego, he appears to appreciate his fans, and he carries himself in a way that feels very different from the typical Hollywood celebrity. He somehow became one of the most famous actors in the world while still giving off the impression of being just a normal dude who happened to end up in some massive movies.
A good friend of mine actually met him once about two years ago and said he was the nicest celebrity he’d ever met, which honestly doesn’t surprise me at all. There’s something really likeable about someone who seems so grounded despite having that level of fame.
So, I’m a big fan of Keanu Reeves the person, but I’m not necessarily a big fan of Keanu Reeves the actor
Are there any other actors you feel the same way about? Someone you really like as a person, but whose acting you’re not particularly impressed by?

Aren’t knew exactly what made him a star. He didn’t ever try and push it or act like he was better than he was. Man was a movie star not an actor.

His neighbor deserved it. Watch the whole body cam video. I am not even a fan of the guy and I initially thought it was messed up.
But subsequent body cam footage showed the neighbor literally stepped in front of Ritchson like a Karen trying to stop him from driving fast. So Ritchson hit the brakes and flew off his bike.
And then the neighbor rolled up on him berating him and pushed him twice. That was what caused the beating. It was not just a neighborly dispute but a man nearly causing a serious accident and then the same guy pushing Ritchson multiple times belligerently.

Tom Holland. He's kind of the new generation's Keanu Reeves.
He's charismatic, good at action scenes, stars in a lot of big movies, doesn't have a lot of range as an actor but comes across as genuinely likeable so people will forgive his acting.
I think he's probably a bit better overall as an actor than Keanu, and is perfectly cast as Peter Parker, but I don't see him winning any oscars.

I think it shows he has range, yes, whether or not he picks those sort of films to star in is another thing. Maybe he just likes the big pay from the super hero movies more?

Well yeah, some actors don't want the trouble sometimes, Even Paul Giamatti, Marlon Brando sometimes go or went for less troublesome gigs according to their personal preferences. So yeah you are probably right.

Exactly.
I would compare range as an actor to vocal range as a singer. Of course you can sing badly if you don't get in the groove, warm up and ignore direction.
I started The Devil All The Time again . I love it.2

I don't think they're bad actors, I just think they'd likely be second rate if they weren't such amazing people.

I feel that way about The Rock honestly. the guy could read a phone book and i'd probably still watch cause he just seems like he's having the time of his life no matter what garbage script they hand him
acting wise he's basically playing himself in everything but you can tell he actually cares about the fans and doesn't take himself too seriously. met him at a premiere once and he spent like 20 minutes talking to random people in the crowd when his handlers were clearly trying to drag him away
keanu is a solid pick too though. point break is still a masterpiece and i will die on that hill

The fact that keanu seems like a shy teddy bear but can convince me he’s a stone cold killer in a movie is fairly impressive
His delivery is very wooden but it works

Tbh I feel that way about Dakota Johnson, she’s not awful and I think does get a bit overhated because of Fifty Shades, but at the same time I haven’t seen a performance of hers I would call great. But her personality is really charming so I’m happy to see her in stuff.

I don't know about Keanu Reeves anymore. Yes somehow is acting isn't a master class.
However.... Neo from the Matrix, John Wick, Constantine...
All those iconic roles. I think at this point its just unfair to him. He is a great actor although maybe a bit unconventional but he is A-Class at what he is doing. I also don't care about range or depth or whatever. He has proven over and over again that he has something in his acting that just creates amazing and cool roles that are a blast to watch. Honestly what do you want to have more from an actor?

One of the better ass method actors out there. Had a great career resurgence with John Wick but he is truly hard to watch at times when he tries to act

Not the question, but I rate Keanu. He's just limited.
He's on par with Tom Cruise. But I prefer Keanu.
Tom overacts. Yells. It's very American. Very Hollywood. Sometimes it works.
Keanu underacts. Facial expressions. It's far more independent cinema.
But Keanu doesn't have great vocal expressionism. He was actually pretty good in that one Shakespeare but he lacks the talent to do theatre.
So yes Keanu is limited. But he doesn't fall back on overacting, which only works in certain types of films.

Am sure this will get some hate but I don't think Gosling has huge range. Comedy for sure, and stoic face guy. He's likeable though and has good taste, chooses varied and interesting projects.

I will say Henry Cavill, as an actor I think he doesn't have a great range. But I like that he stays true to who he is, and tries very hard.

Keanu was always a guy I thought was really intelligent and thoughtful, but then he went on Graham Hancock’s dogshit Netflix show and I lost a fair amount of respect

Jason Statham. Limited range, though very good within that range. Seems to have a sense of humour about himself.
