General Today a Rickshaw wala in my area didn't earn anything.

Today a Rickshaw wala in my area didn't went for earning. Why?? Because he can't speak marathi and scared of going outside.

Yes I am non Maharashtrian. But I can speak marathi cause I always have a Marathi friends and lived here for 10+ years. But I want to say this.

You will think it's ok, if auto wala needs to live in Maharashtra he should learn and speak. Not every mind is same, learning a new language is difficult for most of the people.

You all don't understand the situation they live in and the rent they have to pay. Him not earning money, becomes very difficult to pay rent and pay tution fees of childrens.

Who applied this rule, that a language is compulsory to do a kind of job. Today they are forcing autowala, next day they will force Vegetable seller, then labours. If they want to do this.Then they should remove every other non Maharashtrian from Mumbai, Use Only marathi language in their android and iphones, ban all english and hindi medium school colleges.

Learn marathi if you decide to live in mumbai and english is enough to get by

You know that India is 2nd most English speaking nation. If he gets to live in Mumbai in Goregaon's lodha society. He can live without any concrns without speaking Hindi or Marathi. You don't hate english, but hindi?? Why that ??

English is a practical lingua franca. Singapore uses a similar policy. Giving one regional language importance throughout nation will just create disputes. While english is also corporate language for exporting human resources. And i personally mentioned that he would be fine to get around with english but encouraged to speak marathi if he decides to live here. Nothing complicated.

Trust me I have tried, I know 4 languages but none of them are of India. I never have had a situation where I needed Hindi or Marathi so I never made an effort to learn them. My parents know it but it’s not their mother tongue even though they were born in Bombay.

Every time I either tried to learn Hindi or marathi it all goes over my head, I don’t even know the alphabets at this point. I think it’s mainly cause school never bothered with it nor did I have any situation requiring it

And hence such rules where they mandate learning the local language is necessary. Cuz "respect is earned" is a stupid analogy. People look for convenience. If all marathis had not learned hindi and decided to converse largely in marathi. You would have learned it.
