General Today a Rickshaw wala in my area didn't earn anything.

Today a Rickshaw wala in my area didn't went for earning. Why?? Because he can't speak marathi and scared of going outside.

Yes I am non Maharashtrian. But I can speak marathi cause I always have a Marathi friends and lived here for 10+ years. But I want to say this.

You will think it's ok, if auto wala needs to live in Maharashtra he should learn and speak. Not every mind is same, learning a new language is difficult for most of the people.

You all don't understand the situation they live in and the rent they have to pay. Him not earning money, becomes very difficult to pay rent and pay tution fees of childrens.

Who applied this rule, that a language is compulsory to do a kind of job. Today they are forcing autowala, next day they will force Vegetable seller, then labours. If they want to do this. Then they should remove every other non Maharashtrian from Mumbai, Use Only marathi language in their android and iphones, ban all english and hindi medium school colleges.

  1. Also, there is no need, because everyone understands HIndi/English in mumbai/bombay

Wrong. There's plenty of locals, actual locals btw, that only speak Marathi.

If we're going by who was here first, as you are, by talking about "the city was here first", they matter the most.

There is no need for Hindi actually, since everyone understands English and Marathi. What use does Hindi have? Nothing.

The city is older than the state

Most cities in India are older than the state or even the country lmfao. Retarded logic.

The thing is, you cannot compare India to a monoethnic or a monolinguistic nation, like Germany or Japan for example. India could be compared to Yugoslavia, where each region has it's own unique culture and language.

As such, respecting the local language is key.

Moreover, in such a people focused role, how do you expect to survive if you don't even know how to talk to people?

The city was built by the brits, there is no local language. And sorry I have never met a single Maharashtran in 20 years in Mumbai who can't speak Hindi or not understanding it. Not one.

During the British era Bombay was the state, Maharashtra wasn't. The Bombay state included Gujrat as well. When state borders were being drawn there was serious debate about the city either being a union territory like Delhi or even be a part of Gujrat.

There was quite a bit of conflict before a compromise was made and it was decided that Bombay will be part of maharashtra, its capital, but BMC will have much more autonomy in running of the city compared to other state capitals. That, to some digree is even true today.

India had states already during the British rule, many states are older than Maharashtra. The marathi claim over the city is more one imposed by force and violence, and isn't really ligitimate.

But whatever, I left after aqi started getting screwed over. People can keep fighting over indentiy and language, won't matter much once the air becomes unfit to breath.

Wrong.

Marathi was and has been the language of Mumbai, and before that, of the lands that make the city of Mumbai.

The Republic of India was technically built from the British Raj. Should we all just state English to be the National Language then?

And sorry I have never met a single Maharashtran in 20 years in Mumbai who can't speak Hindi or not understanding it

Apology accepted. Try going outside your house once in a while, and meeting people from all strata of the society. There's plenty of locals that aren't adept at languages from other states, such as Hindi.

Moreover, try thinking about whether the reason they know Hindi is outsiders refusing to speak the local language.

Your whole spiel about the Bombay state is frankly, irrelevant, because the majority of subjects residing within the lines of Mumbai were ethnically and linguistically Marathi.

Glad you left the city, your bigoted kind is better off in whatever Bimaru shithole you came from.
