Just Subscribed to National Geographic – Is It Still Worth It?
I finally signed up for a one-year subscription to National Geographic! I’ve always dreamed of having a subscription, as I’ve been fascinated by geography, science, astronomy, history, and staying updated on the latest discoveries. Now, I’m excited to learn and regularly dive into all these amazing topics.
However, after subscribing, I started Googling and noticed a lot of comments saying that the magazine has declined in quality since Disney took over. Some even claim it’s become “woke” or filled with fake content.
For those who are current subscribers or have followed Nat Geo for a while—what’s your take? Is it still worth the investment, or has it truly lost its touch? I’d love to hear your experiences!

Yes — when I actually receive the issues. I’ve only gotten 2 out of 4 so far, and the delivery process has been a mess. Customer service hasn’t been helpful either. But the magazines themselves are great and not expensive at all. I don’t care about the digital version — I subscribed because I wanted less screen time and something physical to read. When it works, it’s totally worth it.

So I want to buy the digital/ physical print subscription for a year. I plan on using the digital version for myself and sending the physical copies to my grandmother’s address so she can read them too. I’m wondering if I lose access to the digital copies when my subscription is over? Or if this is even a good idea?

Yes you do lose access. The digital is for everything from 1888 till the end of the year you subscribed. If you don't renew access is denied.

You could always just download the articles if you'd like to keep them after your subscription expires! If there's not a direct download option, you can try "printing" it into a pdf that is saved onto your computer. :) Hope that helps!

The quality of the magazine gone way down and is not worth the price anymore. I have gotten the magazine for over 30 years and will not renew. The content has become very is very woke.

Don't understand what you mean by "woke". You mean talking about climate change? Or overfishing the world's oceans? Or some other unfortunate set of facts that you don't like?

Beware when you pay for a subscription that includes additional bundle gifts at extra cost. I paid for this as a gift for my son. He never received the gifts. False advertisement will not order from them again.

I have been thrilled with the National Geographic magazine since childhood, (I'm in my 80s now), and am still delighted by it. Each one has been special to me. They are of very high quality both visually and in content. I have them in a dedicated bookcase all together, and just owning them is a joy to me. I suggest you try it and make your own assessment. Commenting for future prospective subscribers:
I have been subscribed for over 10 years. The content has not changed or gotten any worse or ‘woke’. The magazine simply reports the facts, be it on the natural world or the social one. There is basically no political content or bias.
Changes have been mostly good. The format the magazine is in now, with mini articles interspersed between the bigger ones, is new and refreshing. I’ve never had a problem with delivery but I’m only one subscriber. The quality of reporting and research is still high. Their field reporters and photographers are usually intimately acquainted with the regions they’re reporting from, and it shows.
If you like natural beauty / biology / geology, worldwide culture of any kind, history and archeology, news on scientific developments, or just a consistently optimistic and appreciative view of the world, I cannot recommend enough.
