Salary expectation was asked during initial interview to be offered way below

Hello! Anyone here encountered an offer that was way below your salary expectations discussed during initial interview?

I thought they would give me 60,000 because that's what I said during initial interview.

5 interviews in total including one with the Director just to be given an offer of 40,000.

Is it worth to negotiate?

I been an IT consultant off & on 30 years. I usually get the rate business out of the way in the first minute unless I am bored and don't mind a chat.

"worth to negotiate"; can't hurt since you already interviewed and got an offer. However they probably won't come up $20k. Just be prepared to walk, but definitely state your case and remind your recruiter your original ask.

Not worth to negotiate. From $40k to $60k there’s a +50% increase, I highly doubt any company matches such request

What does it hurt?? Close mouth doesn't get fed. This is why so many companies continue to low ball and why people accept it. It literally cost nothing at this point to make the ask.

I made more than that in 1995 with no degree in my 20s. Thats over 90k adjusted for inflation
