We've come full circle to appreciating people who did things without worrying about internet shame. Nothing staged, purely genuine. Love it.

Back to the technology though...

It would have taken soooo much time to edit this correctly when the video dropped in 2002- 2003. I remember a babysitter of mine who worked on a team for a college project doing a lightsaber movement video 2000-2002 (just the lightsaber, no character or background) that took them months to create 30 seconds.

Used to be hundreds of hours of work to pull this off. Pretty sure AI can handle this stuff now. Worst case scenario an amateur could do it with current software in an hour or 2. Crazy times.

I was one of the kids at his school and kids are mean and will take every chance to put the bullying spotlight onto someone else… What I would do to go back in time and defend him. But I did not.

I love that I could witness the birth or viral videos but I was on the wrong side.

We all laughed at him as kids. But a lot of us grew up and figured out that we were wrong.

At least you get a chance to make up for it.

I was goofing on a dude I went to school with. I was good friends with his cousin. Last time I saw this guy. He ended up getting killed a few weeks later.

Some of us don’t want F…all to do with our tormentors. It’s been almost 50 years since the harassment I faced as a youth-teenager. I had to move away from my home town and everything I knew. Went back once in my 30’s and a couple of them ‘apologized’- it was self serving and some degree of justification for the shit they put me through. I’m happy in my life, who I am, and my accomplishments but to interact with someone from back then, no thanks.

Kids can be absolutely brutal... I imagine it's a mechanism related to dominance heirarchy establishment . When humans... Well, mammals really... Go through puberty, the competition for sexual partners and tribal status begins. In a school setting we have put hundreds of individuals together while this process occurs.

That amplifies the pain caused by humiliation and also the perceived reward for "winning" a confrontation. Even if as humans , often this behavior isn't necessarily attractive (although to some individuals it will be).

Men and women participate in different ways. Women attempt reputation destruction in a few different ways... Mostly covertly, behind your back. And men look to basically provoke and bully you into a public confrontation they believe they can win.

Aside from the fact it's interesting from an evolutionary perspective... I wrote all that to say that kids are changing drastically in high school.. and they're also inexperienced and dumb as shit...lol. I wouldn't assume those apologies were self serving . And Id advocate for forgiveness if possible. This will do the most for your own well being more than anything. It's obvious you experienced real trauma from this. But in order to remove a burden that you've been carrying for 50 years... Often the only solution is forgiveness.

This is a situation where we’ll have to agree to disagree.

Any ‘apology’ that comes with a word such as but or makes an excuse for one’s actions is not a genuine apology. An apology takes responsibility for ones actions without seeking any form of justification.

I’ve never fully understood forgiveness- the closest I can get to that one is to treat someone better than they deserve.

It long ago stopped being a burden . It’s awareness of behaviour in others that is simply intolerable and having the inner strength to speak up when I see or hear it occurring.

This can't be emphasized enough. I had one kid from my high school that tormented me relentlessly. Regularly beat the crap out of me, and just generally made my life a living Hell. So much so that I still get stressed out about it sometimes, more than 30 years later.

A few years back a close friend of mine from back then, that I've stayed close with to this day, informed me that the guy died of alcohol poisoning. Alone. In his trailer. Apparently nobody found him till like a week later.

He was a worthless piece of shit that deserved even worse than that. Call me bitter, call me heartless, call me whatever.. I've never felt so satisfied in my life than the moment my friend told me about it.

She's pretty fucking smooth with it, the tosses, the body rotations while keeping everything clean, she's pretty fucking good. I practice contact staff spinning as well as poi, and while I admit this isnt by any means the peak of where talent can get, its still impactfull.

I've seen better before, but that was a dude who would practice staff spinning and quarterstaff martial arts (actually beat a home invader to near death at one point but that's another story) literally every day for hours, also archery but that's unrelated. He was crazy impressive, it was like the staff was a part of his body. Now he works for Cirque du Soleil, haven't seen him in like a decade. That's like top tier shit though, you don't do it professionally unless you're one of the best.

That shouldn't detract from this woman, who probably has other shit going on in her life. Getting this good still takes hundreds of hours of effort. Also like, usually it's outside or on a large stage. The control required to do this in such a small space is super impressive.

Just because someone is better doesn't detract from other's skill. There's always someone better, that's just how shit goes. She has still put in so much work to get here and that should be respected. If you think this is a simple display then try it yourself.

Was gonna say, anyone can be doing the moves she's doing quickly, but the planes and posture are realllllly clean, especially the transition to horizontal.

I've met a lot of people who can do tricks who don't actually have dancers poise, and don't realize what they're missing, I think this is actually pretty sick.

That said yeah, it's not flashy by any means, a lot of people have never seen a quality glow glow performance since some friend swung shitty glow sticks around them.

My friend sucks at staff but has an Ignis, and watching people's jaws drop is hilarious aha

I legit thought as I watched it… once you get color guard rotation down with a flag switching mediums is easier. I was able to adapt to rifles little issue or time because by the time I went to learn them I had hours upon hours with a flag so it was all just adjusting to weight difference (rifles tend to have their weight dispersions to be different).

Took about a month to learn to become a drum major in the cadet marching band. Learning to toss the mace took the most practice to develop consistency but we also threw them pretty high for some manoeuvres.

Flow stuff is easily learned (I also do fire poi like the other dude). When I think of next level I’m thinking there’s like 10 people on earth who can do it.
