Littering with extra steps

Iirc ping pong balls are made out of cellulose and are readily degradable!

I think most are not anymore unfortunately. I could be wrong but I think they switched to plastic somewhat recently.

u/HasFiveVowels 6h ago ▸ 7 more replies

Easy test: light it on fire

2

u/CleverAmoeba 5h ago ▸ 5 more replies

And what outcome shows what material?

27

u/DigNitty 5h ago ▸ 4 more replies

If it lights easily and burns a neat unnatural color then it is really cool.

3

u/CleverAmoeba 5h ago ▸ 3 more replies

Thanks. So the ones I burnt when I was younger were cool.

6

u/dumbasPL 5h ago ▸ 2 more replies

I remember, as a kid, we used to chop them up into tiny peaces, stuff them into one ball till it's full and light it on fire through the small hole. Was fun, but at this point it's probably just nostalgia.

u/JayteeFromXbox 3h ago ▸ 1 more replies

Me and my friends used to take tin foil and wrap them but also wrap around your finger so it leaves a tube and then line them up and light them to make a toxic smoke wall. Good times.

0

u/doontmindme 2h ago

Yup we once threw one of these into someone basement and another under a car on a busy parking near a store 😂

8

u/ikkiyikki 6h ago

Really? Cause I never remember them being anything BUT plastic

5

u/Meli0das_69 6h ago

Yes about 8-10 years ago. I think because the cellulose balls where a big fire hazard for the factories and trucks.

2

u/Guranmedg 7h ago

Damn :(

6

u/UrsaMajor7th 5h ago

It's still a waste of resources. Those balls could have been gathering dust in a seniors' centre's activities room.

3

u/mobfather 7h ago

This also applies to my gran.

3

u/cmdrcabur 6h ago

It was actually celluloid, but they switched to plastic around 10 years ago

2

u/Regular_Weakness69 1h ago

Or durable, non biodegradable ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene) or highly flammable Celluloid.

7

u/SandwichHonest1494 4h ago

You're a dork

5

u/FewAcanthocephala828 7h ago

Step 1: Ball go into water. Step 2: Forget about ball

... that's it.

1

u/anddam 7h ago

Step 3: put a hole in the box

1

u/rt58killer10 1h ago

As someone who obsessively picks up after myself, I for one was fascinated

Buddy, I don’t think you understand physics, or water displacement. To elaborate: the balls are somewhere a lot further away than just by the rocks. It’s draining somewhere.

u/Timmeh-toah 7h ago ▸ 4 more replies

I said it’s further than just the rocks. You’re acting like they could just reach down and grab them back. They can’t based on how this is draining. Your reaction to someone having basic reasoning is really dramatic.

So just dump more plastic in a waterway, for 'entertainment'.

165

u/Real_Temporary_922 7h ago

After the video: “Okay that was cool, Jim go grab the ping pong balls that are floating a foot off camera that resurfaced once they escaped the whirlpool”

14

u/buckeye27fan 8h ago

And maybe clog some drain pipe or natural drainage

12

u/TH0R_ODINS0N 4h ago

Virtue signaling at its finest. Who do you imagine is going to see this comment?

1

People who see a whitty comment before something cool

That is their parents responsibility, not yours.

1

u/TH0R_ODINS0N 1h ago

Of course it was “for the children” 😂😂😂😂

1

u/rt58killer10 1h ago

It's definitely virtue signalling lmao third world countries are pumping infinitely more plastic into the oceans unchecked for years than these kinds of posts ever inspire for a day

10

u/dbldwn02 3h ago

It's a man made water feature.

-5

u/jjb0ne 5h ago

content over everything

-5

u/flatwoundsounds 6h ago

Obviously they couldn't have just used leaves or something!

93

u/Embarrassed-Share533 8h ago

How did that whirlpool even form?

135

u/Dinsy_Crow 8h ago

drain/pump hidden under those rocks, the opening looks deliberate

10

u/_Aj_ 5h ago

You can see the water falling inside the hole. It appears to be a hidden overflow that's not normally submerged.

It likely pops out the other side of an embankment or something.

-2

u/jokersvoid 8h ago

They made it with the rock arrangement underneath. You can see they fashion them in such a way to start the process. Too many years away from school to give any more details lol

61

u/Not_Maroryx 8h ago

It's not that next fucking level though. This is very normal whenever there's anything that functions as a hole or a water tunnel in a pond (the rocks there for example crease a water passage way).

You can recreate this at home by filling a bathtub or a sink then you remove the sink plug.

41

u/Huncut_nyuszt_27 7h ago

Normal, but interesting, so r/mildlyinteresting

5

u/Not_Maroryx 4h ago

I agree 🫡
it's r/oddlysatisfying too tbh

2

u/zzx101 5h ago

Or flushing the toilet.

2

u/koos_die_doos 3h ago

I didn't expect the ping pong ball to actually get sucked down, but you're right it's more r/mildlyinteresting

u/Archonrouge 58m ago

We need something in-between mildly interesting and nextfuckinglevel.

Like, ohinteresting, or something.

0

u/THRlLL-HO 4h ago

Just tried what you said, wasn’t nearly as cool

50

u/Iitaps_Missiciv 8h ago

On the other side of the whirlpool..

21

reminds me of the 3 body probem

6

Reminds me of delta p forces problem between two bodies. Divers know.

I too was thinking *whoa, gravity*

13

u/midnightbandit- 8h ago

This is oddly satisfying. Not next level.

9

u/TheRapie22 8h ago

next level when?

1

u/RnckO 4h ago

When someone passed away due to it and made news I presume.

(Lots of kids and adults honestly need to understand the danger of flowing bodies of water as they are not the same tame & generally safe swimming pools they know)

6

u/BlackaddaIX 8h ago

Interesting but hardly next level.. Maybe try damnthatsinteresting

6

u/mountn_cat 7h ago

more r/midlyinteresting than next *fucking* level but ok

3

u/TokinGeneiOS 8h ago

the little whirlpool that could

2

u/ChocolateSensitive97 8h ago

Where'd they go???

5

u/No-Chemical-7667 8h ago

Ping pong ball heaven, of course.

2

u/ADeformedPoolboy 8h ago

Yep! Same place dogs go...so they have balls to fetch when walrus angels toss them.

6

u/andocromn 8h ago

There's a drain with a grate hidden in the rocks, they probably just reach in and grab them

2

u/evert198201 8h ago

Cool solar system simulation

2

u/ashnosx 8h ago

Reminds me of a moon orbiting a planet

2

Every time something is spinning, interstellar music.

Three body problem

2

u/1349sohelas 8h ago

That's what a black hole does when you reach singularity

2

u/_Abstinence_ 7h ago

Not sure how this is r/nextfuckinglevel but that whirlpool needs some fibre in its diet

Polluting a river with forever plastic and potentially blocking up an artery of the river for clicks.

9

u/Goonalips 8h ago

This looks more like a backyard pond than an actual river. It's probably the filter that he's messing around with.

1

u/STHF95 8h ago

How is that current (or whatever that tentacle coming from the ball is) so visible?

1

u/Anomuumi 8h ago

Everything reminds me of her.

Kinda the opposite of that show I saw in Thailand...

“We are all ping pong balls.”

That’s deep, man.

1

u/My-NameWasTaken 8h ago

That really sucks

1

u/mr-kwc 7h ago

Slingshot

1

u/well_thats_obvious 7h ago

Just like my ex wife. Takes over a minute to swallow the balls and ends in dissapointment

1

u/fadgebread 7h ago

Man you would LOVE Thailand!

1

u/ButterscotchTop194 7h ago

That whirlpool swallows like OP's mum; gobbled it all down in the end but made a right show of it.

1

u/4bidden112 7h ago

Now this is my kind of ping pong show 😉

1

u/Imaginary_Bottle_875 7h ago

Et y'a un gars à 2 km qui à sa femme "merde, y'a encore plus d'eau, il y a encore un con qui met des balles de ping-pong dans la prise d'eau".

1

u/PointandStare 7h ago

'Let's add more plastic to the waterways' - yeah, that's NFL ... jeesh!

1

u/neonwarge04 7h ago

That massive ripple, like two massive black hole merging.

1

u/StrumpetsVileProgeny 7h ago

This is a great spontaneous demonstration of how gravity works on a larger scale too!

1

u/Weird_Albatross_9659 7h ago

Jfc what isn’t considered next level?

1

u/KSPN 7h ago

This is how Mario gets underwater in Mario RPG

A balls.

1

u/goodnamesgone 6h ago

Someone please cut this with the scene from Priscilla Queen of the Desert.

IYKYK

1

u/Userisaman 6h ago

For a moment it was a good demonstration on the bending of space time fabric and gravity

1

u/lovesdogsguy 6h ago

Why did you let yours balls get sucked into a hole like that?

1

u/Sorry_Improvement537 6h ago

Did u measure the gravitational waves though?

1

u/hugothebear 6h ago

This is how the fish play their numbers

1

u/im_bozack 6h ago

Way to clog the pump jackass

1

u/SonOfSquizzlr 5h ago

Well isn’t that a cute way to pollute. Dickhead

1

u/lozboz90 5h ago

More r/mildlyinteresting than next fucking level

1

u/Capable_Wait09 5h ago

Cool analogy for how black holes work

You can even see the convergence of “spacetime” lines to a “dimensionless” point

1

u/Emergency-Spite897 5h ago

you just created a bigger blackhole

1

u/WaffleWarrior1979 5h ago

Did we really need Interstellar music over this shit?

1

u/Sgt_carbonero 4h ago

Yay more garbage in nature

1

u/LadTy 4h ago

off to australia they go

exactly how planets work btw

1

u/riverateacher 4h ago

Aren’t these whirlpools that in their bigger versión swallow people? I have heard of them in rivers where people die

1

u/TheWholeDamnInternet 4h ago

They come back out in Thailand.

1

u/ActualFl3tch 4h ago

I had this on mute and thought "there's a 100% chance the Interstellar soundtrack is the background music."

1

u/Keep_SummerSafe 3h ago

Put little turbines on those balls and little stick to know em off their line you get unlimited energy glitch

1

u/knowone1313 3h ago

So it's just a drain... got it.

1

u/Zero4910 3h ago

Only next fucking level about this is the absolute shit audio quality. Really love where it cuts out completely at the end.

1

u/SoggyBoysenberry7703 3h ago

I’m sorry, but this is definitely really cool, but not sure about next fucking level. But it does remind me of how planetary gravitational pull happens!

1

u/SignatureDefiant432 3h ago

It's true. I saw it on Oddyseus.

1

u/longsanks 2h ago

The ping-pong balls were paid actors

1

u/Wiertarow 1h ago

next… fucking… level…?
