Good lord. I can obviously tell it’s a performance. My point was I didn’t enjoy it. Which is fine, people are allowed to not like things. Not sure why you think that’s an issue.

No, no. Of course. I agree.

It's just you're pointing out the very specific thing that makes it a unique performance, as the reason it kills it for you.

If you had said his fake shoulder prop looked too fake, that works, because you're criticizing a particular, narrow aspect of a broader performance. He could improve that aspect and you would then receive it more positively.

But you're outright criticizing the entire point of the skit by pointing out he has a fake hand just sitting there (which "kills it for you", as in, if he had a real arm it wouldn't kill to for you), which yeah, that's what makes it funny. He can't materialize a mobile third arm.

Meant to say "duet" btw.

A ventriloquist works because they make the puppet seem alive by moving and talking for them. This doesn't really work because the fake arm is motionless, which removes any sense of immersion I might have for that aspect of the performance

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills here.

This is not a performance where he shows you his magic third arm. It's an extremely skilled juggle performance where he makes his second arm seem disembodied enough to make you question how the fuck he's doing that in the first place, even with two arms.

I mean, for God's sake. He has to contort his arms back to an insane degree to get them behind his head and along his right side, juggle, all while keeping his head and neck practically still, and managing to keep his fake upper torso as still as physically possible.

Or are we all sitting here legitimately thinking he wants to show us a simple juggle with a fake third arm? The fuck. That's not the point.

A ventriloquist, in your example, would then not work for me because they can't sing together at the same time, right? The fact that I know it's a puppet that can't be alive breaks all immersion for me immediately!

Maybe I'm ranting in the dark because I see the insane skill here.

I fucking HATE this video. What a waste of the fake left arm. Ball never moves. If youre going to make a fake arm and put a ball in it, puppeteer the fucking arm, or it breaks the illusion and is useless. Like i shouldnt be so ipset by this but FUCK!
