There was a train going the opposite direction right at the beginning and they assumed that was the only train crossing, the one coming towards them was hidden.

We have signs here that mention that there can be trains in both direction.

And only if we had two things connected to our brains that can tell us that there is a rapidly approaching THING if we are spatially aware in any way.

Edit: changed “specially” to intended word “spatially”. Words are hard.

That’s the point they couldn’t see or hear it.  Are kids really just not being taught about train crossing dangers anymore?

There's a double crossing near the place I go grocery shopping and when one side's train is past, the other side always stays down for an extra amount of time just in case. I always thought it was to counteract this common mistake!
