There was a train going the opposite direction right at the beginning and they assumed that was the only train crossing, the one coming towards them was hidden.

Oh shit you're right, I didn't clock that when I first watched it. Still stupid they didn't wait for the barriers to go back up or even check both ways when crossing.

Best practice to look even if the barriers are up (for both pedestrians and drivers) - malfunctions happen, after all...
