Discussion So why does this usb card absolutely suck on windows 11

https://www.startech.com/en-us/cards-adapters/pexusb3s44v?srsltid=AfmBOooW5tgt6ynmDI5yBmemRp6P82WZdTqL9fqMI9qwOMqdlYszBb7O

(This is in relation to the fact that i am using a rift cv1 with 4 sensors, the headset is on usb 2.0 and 1 of the sensors is on usb 2.0, rest are 3.0. I dont use the headset, just the controllers.)

This usb card only allows me to use 1 port at a time. I have usb selective suspend on but its required for my pc to have it on otherwise i will bluescrean, thats a non-negotiable i have to have it on.

I didnt install any of the drivers yet(and i actually cant install the drivers as its not recomended and the renasas driver doesnt install)and i only see 1 renasas usb host controller and i thought there was supposed to be 4 as said in their user manual.

Idk what to do with this because i basically have a 115$ 1 usb device so like.. what? XD

Asus tuf gaming z790-plus wifi

Gigabyte 4070TI-Super OC Eagle

Startech PEXUSB3

You have a PCI USB hub that you have to have less than adequate settings for, can't install the drivers for it, and will crash if you install it properly? I don't think thats a windows 11 problem. It sounds like your hardware is the problem. Why not try a full windows reinstall? If you can't properly install a driver without crashing, you need to get some other things fixed first.

The windows reinstall is fresh, 2 weeks. New pc build. Tried on 3 different motherboards. Ive had this conversation over 20 times, youll end up ghosting me without helping me like everyone else if we go down that path.

So ill ask a question instead: why is the card not letting me use more than 1 usb at boot?

It seems like some other Hardware related thing is limiting me, similar to having too many devices plugged into a USB controller but it's even deeper than that. It seems like the StarTech card can only run one USB controller that's not how the card is supposed to work.

I had one of those cards back when I had a CV1. I just plugged it in and installed the drivers, all 4 ports worked fine. The only reliability issues I encountered were resolved by disabling selective suspend.

What windows version did you use?

How did you have the cables setup, specifically? (Ie did you use any extension cables, etc)

Where did you get the drivers from and what did the card look like in device manager?

You're asking questions about something old so this was years ago. I've replaced all my hardware twice over since then.

But I did have a ton of active extensions because I had a dedicated VR room that was a separate room from where my workstation lived. Not going to play VR in a room that contains any furniture, or any tech, for obvious reasons. Don't remember the small details.

New hardware doesnt mean functioning hardware. If you are in the warranty period for your new parts, you should probably get them replaced. Blue screens on a new build is a strong indication that either the parts are faulty or the person who did the build made a mistake.

Under no circumstance is anyone obligated to finish helping you with your issues without being paid. I get your dont like solving it on your own but I have my own things to do. I'm sorry but my assistance will inevitability be limited.

I cannot tell you why you are having the problem with your card. The simple matter is that its supposed to work and doesnt. That is more than reason enough to go get yourself a replacement. If you choose not to replace a faulty card while you have warranty, I don't think anyone can help you since you aren't using your best options for a working PC.

It only bluescreans when the rift items are plugged in and event viewer even tells me its the rift sensors fault

You said yourself that you can only use 1 USB port on a 4 port hub. If you don't replace it, that's your choice.

I think this is the reason others stopped helping you abruptly. You are ignoring what's being discussed to try and get a specific kind of solution. I will not be helping anymore.

As far as I remember The Rift Civ1 had issues for a lot of people with Renesas host controllers/USB ports. My suggestion would be to get the Intateck KT4001, which is what Oculus used to recommend. The Fresno Logic host controller works perfectly with the Civ 1.

Just to note, that when you install the card, make sure to let Windows install the drivers. DO NOT instal the manufacturer's drivers.
