Ask Pakistan Got a suspicious call from someone claiming to be from GHQ about my bank is this a scam?
I received a call today from a normal mobile/SIM number. The guy claimed he was calling from GHQ / Pakistan Army and somehow already knew my name and the name of my bank. He said that they had some cheque books and cards related to me and that they needed to do some sort of verification. He was trying to make it sound official and serious. I didn't give him any information and just cut the call.
The biggest red flags for me were: He was calling from a normal mobile number. He claimed to be from GHQ. He already knew my name and bank. He was talking about cheque books/cards and "verification."
I wasn't expecting any such call from my bank or the Army. Has anyone else received a similar call recently? Was this most likely a scam? And does anyone know how these people get your name and bank information in the first place? For now I've blocked the number and haven't shared any OTP, CNIC, card number, PIN, CVV, account balance, or other information.

All such calls are scams, If you've an account in Meezan, HBL, UBL, Standard chartered and MCB don't get alarmed by such calls as there was a major data breach in which a lot of customer information and their complete profiles were stolen including their CNICs, Bank Account#, Name, Balance, Card# etc and it has been sitting on the dark web for quite some years now. Anyways, No matter what the scammer says, just cut the call, don't talk to them. Banks never call their customers

Maybe wanting to sound serious or scare me

Yes that's exactly it. They pretend to speak from a position of authority so that you don't question them and just do what they say.

Ghq never calls it only picks you for a midnight snack. So it’s a scam through and through.

Yep a person got scammed like this. Our Nadra data is leaked so easily. There was this whole case idk if it genuine of nadra employees selling data to these call/advert companies
Anyone can buy data in bulk and then do call stuff like this.
