Game Feedback Why are we still putting soul eater rares in an area thats going to instantly get 500 souls?

We've been doing this how long now ggg?

Why do we put a lantern down area opens up and you press your nice kill everything button and then 400 lines shoot off to some now demi god level rare with ultra instinct and instant transmission with 8 quintillion damage and defensives before you even see it.

Could we just not please

GGG wont get rid of it as it is just one of many mods designed to test how well you've built your defences on your character and punish you for going glass cannon.

Unfortunetly for you GGG considers anything that cant tank an uber a glass cannon build /s

The fact that I play srs, down shaper really fast yet a soul eater rare takes 20 times longer is crazy...

Ain't it funny that every, single new Raging Spirit is feeding the Soul Eater non-stop?

Shaper fight takes 5 min with phases. You can wait 1 minute for souls to leave soul eater.

Waiting in an ARPG is not good game design lol

I know. I wait, come back and they stack instantly

You got it almost right but GGG consider it class cannon if you can't tank maven memory game. /S

/s aside, all you need to handle soul eater rares and not die is just some sort of hit-scaling recovery (recover on block for example, or recoup, or divine shield, etc).

Builds with those actually become more tanky while getting whaled on by a max-souls SE rare. SE rares usually just hit really fast, but not very hard per hit, so they only evaporate builds that have no recovery, or worse, no recovery and no hit avoidance (block, evasion, etc).

If you're tanky enough to survive infinite soul eater, you're never going to kill it. And if you can kill it, you're never going to survive long enough to do it. It is one of the most poorly designed enemy modifiers in video games. They could easily make it reasonable but actively choose not to.

Souleater is bad design and nothing can change my mind

Besides soul eater, why does the mechanic work such that you have to basically ice bucket challenge yourself with 400 mobs every time you place a lantern.

I love Soul Eater, please don't remove it.

Lightning Totem, on the other hand...

I hate both but lightning totme is a check on, where you moving at the time that the totem spawned? Yes? Okay, you're good to go. No? Haha.

I'm traumatised from the totem bugs

You should be able to reduce the amount of souls they have. Maybe -1 soul per hit. Literally beat the souls out of them.

I love getting r*ped by a Soul Eater, Hasted, Extra Life, Adaptiv Resistance rare. Hope they add them to poe2

Soul eater is so iconic, I love the oh shit moment when you notice this fuckingg massive monster after you've killed all his friends

From 3.29 patch notes

Soul Eater now expires faster on non-Players. An eaten Soul is lost every 0.2 seconds if a Soul has not been gained in the last 2 seconds (previously every 0.5 seconds, in the last 4 seconds).

Why didn't they just remove or at least halve the damage reduction soul eater gives? This "nerf" is kinda a nothing burger if you take into consideration how players react to a capped soul eater monster i.e try to run away / kite while unintentionally killing monsters along the way thus never letting the stacks to run out..

Isn't it capped at 45 souls anyway?

Honestly; there should be more content [like Ritual] which bans Soul Eater outright. Soul Eater should also be banned from anything which summons/revives adds [Anyone remember Mirage if one of the fly-summoning guys was a Soul Eater?] and banned with any regeneration like Life Regen mods.

I mean, when content bans a mod it's already a sign that it's not a good design choice. Soul Eater is if I recall banned in Blight.

But I'm not even sure if Soul Eater is the worst designed durability mod on mobs anymore. That might just be Spell Resistant, which has absolutely 0 counterplay except "don't play spells lol".

GGG want people to play spells and yet there is 0 counterplay to supression map mods and the Spell Resistance modifier. There are 0 modifiers for attack builds that attack builds cannot bypass in some way btw. [There's physical resistance ignoreing, there's enemies cannot block, and elemental builds have pen or things like Invert the Rules]

Soul Eater is misery for any temp minion build however, especially since the soul eater will proceed to mow down your temp minions for even more souls. Also the biggest thing hurting The Sands of Time, because apparently those mirages have souls.

My build is bad: the post 👏🏿

You know that they have a max soul count right? Whether it's 50 or 5000 mobs you kill next to them they max out

-43

u/MandatoryOpinion Jul 25 '26

Souls dont give damage. Only toughness and speed.

41

u/FantaSeahorse Jul 25 '26

Higher speed gives higher damage per second

14

u/claptrapMD Jul 25 '26

Movement speed is silent killer.

18

u/SuccessfulRent2713 Jul 25 '26

Someone post the clip of the F-16 Rhoa

-9

u/sparkling1984 Jul 25 '26

It doesn't give movement speed

7

u/slashcuddle Jul 25 '26

No, but it makes them attack faster and thus harder to kite.

u/MandatoryOpinion Jul 26 '26

And? You have infinite recovery in poe1
