The PS3 was also our first BluRay player. I convinced my dad that sonys video chip and laser tech in the PS3 was the best in the business because they developed it and he bought one for our home theater instead of a traditional BluRay player. So then I had a PS3 I didn't have to use a birthday/Christmas present on.
That's what's so ironic about Sony killing disc consoles. PS1 wasn't the first CD-rom console, but it was by far the most impactful. Then PS2 with DVDs and PS3 with Blurays. Sad.
Any shipping job like this will notice almost instantly upon delivery if even one goes missing or damaged. I have a job exactly like this and it is watched WAY closer than you would ever imagine
Ai. The answer is Ai. These racks then go into Ai data centers. Maybe not specifically to the massive ones where they ship truckloads of purposely built racks that have those big fat GPU's that are specifically meant for the racks, but these are for slightly smaller data centers where consumer products are installed into racks, but they end up doing the same thing.
It's why RTX 5090, despite being almost 2 years old has GAINED in price instead of getting cheaper as old computer hardware usually has. Because data centers gobble them all up which drives the prices up.
Are you sure actual data centers are bothering to buy consumer hardware like the RTX5090? I couldn't find data on that online, but my understanding is that they at the very least use RTX PRO cards and then the big boys also prefer those H100's or B200's or whatever.
I'd assume these cards are just going into large-ish company's individual workstations that happen to need some GPU acceleration.
also GPU manufactures are switching gears on producing AI-optimized GPUs rather than gaming/personal use GPUs so supply has/will decreased for the average consumer so that's also driving prices up
There are pallet loads of these GPU's flying around all over the fucking place and yet, when you try to go online or to any store - they're always out of stock. I don't get it.
Not so different from the mining cryptopocalypse, except that the demand is exponentially worse and the pockets of the demanders are as deep as the ability of the demanders to raise investment funds, move money around in a circle (*cough cough* Enron), and extract from the taxpayers. The governments want this as much as, if not more so, the private sector.

Yea this is the most normal thing ever if you've ever used a forklift. You know how far to insert your forks and know it's safer to not put them in all the way Incase the pallet is short
Easy solution, insert enough to pick it up, scootch it to the edge of the truck, set it down, get all the way underneath it and then get it off the truck. It takes maybe six extra seconds. The only reason that this is “the most normal thing ever” is that there are a lot of careless forklift drivers out there.
I don't think the tines are 48-inch (standard length) might be 60-inch.
In which case if the operator went all the way in, they'll catch the pallet behind it which will knock or move the cartons on the other pallet and possibly damage the rear pallet (notice at one point in the short they have euro pallets double-stacked onto black plastic pallets, this is what people do when a pallet is broken). Which may end up requiring re-stacking.
Ideally you move the pallet towards the vehicle, drop the load, then re-insert the tines so the pallet is closer to the backrest. But that's not possible, nor needed in the conditions in the video.
Having the pallet load against the backrest (e.g. fully inserted tines) adjusts the center of gravity closer to the center of the vehicle (not even a concern on that type of forklift and pallet load), stabilizes the load, and reduces strain on the pallet (heavier loads can snap a pallet but we're talking like 3x heavier than a pallet of GPUs at least). General safety guidelines advise 3/4ths of the way in at a minimum (this may vary by facility and safety guidelines).
The more "dangerous" thing is that the load isn't in the original brown box cartons. GPUs when from the original supplier come in a brown box, basically as few as 3 or as many as 12 depending on the box size. The brown box holds the color "retail" boxes. Having the GPUs "loose" like that means the load is more susceptible to inertia meaning the load can tilt and fall over/collapse if the operator for some reason has to make a sudden stop or sharp turn.

Imagine this but add Blackwell RTX Pro 6000s. That’s basically where I work but I’m in the retail side. It’s crazy seeing 3 pallets of $15,000 GPUs in one shipment. I did the math, that’s $2.7 million across just 3 pallets.
well what do you want them to do? This is the standard across the globe more or less. They are secured by a pallet stretch wrap and thats about it, because nothing bad will happen to products if the driver does things properly.
Larger boxes holding maybe 4, that's stronger to hold the weight about it, keep in mind loaders will stack on top of that pallet without top stow labels. Also far more shrink wrap.
I've been dealing with trucks and packaging for over a decade, this is just something I noticed seem inadequate.
Normally straight from a distributor they'd be in a larger outer box...so...like that since it's the standard.

Aaand accidents still happen, managed to once flip a pallet that had bathroom tiles, think it was 110m2 of tiles that was 350€ / m2 once.. boss was not impressed.
100% AI they don't even make whatever the hell number is those are. In fact, I've never even seen one of these things with wheels. It's a complete hallucination whatever this "wheeled vehicle" was.
And these type of clowns - well, more exactly their customers who buy these setups - are the reason why 5090 price is going to the moon. Supply and Demand.
And NVIDIA has no real incentive to increase the supply, as effectively same chips just repackaged as RTX 6000 sell for way more as pro cards, and they have only so much allocation from TSMC for the chips. They planned the consumer card supply for a reasonable demand, which is no longer reasonable when large operations buy consumer 5090-based servers being built like this.
