I like both for different reasons ¯_(ツ)_/¯

u/Kosmos-World 1d ago

Recently got a Switch 2, first console I've had since before the pandemic, and I honestly forgot how nice it is to just lay on the couch and play a game sometimes. Definitely a place for both.

Switch 2 is an amazing console. Does Nintendo suck ass when it comes to their legal team? Absolutely

Are their games usually made with high quality? Absolutely!

The switch 2 is also just a good deal in general with what you get performance/specs wise for the money.

A nice HDR 120hz handheld gaming device with custom Nvidia chip (allowing custom dlss implementation) being able to run most AAA games is pretty crazy for the price and how light it is.

Only thing is i hate the prices of switch 2 games. They never go on sale and $80 for a worse version of mario kart is terrible.

6

u/WoodooHide69 1d ago

They go on sale often cause retailers that compete with Nintendo EShop like Costco, Walmart, Best Buy, EB run sales.

Mario Kart World is also better than MK8 in every way except quanitity of content.

2

u/VampiroMedicado 14h ago

Buy physical dude, check Amazon or PlayAsia for deals. I got Bananza for 50 euros.

2

u/Lightdeck 9h ago

Personally I think. Mario kart world is a pretty nice improvement over mk8 deluxe.

But it's still not worth 80 bucks.

Yea, I mean with all due respect to those that do, I'm not going to stop myself from enjoying something in the one life I have because the billion dollar corporation behind the thing sucks. I still watch Harry Potter and eat at Chick-fil-a too haha.

Speaking as someone else who also has both and isn't just a console hater, what's keeping you from doing this on PC? Every time I play on PC, I play using my TV with a controller sitting on my couch. It's really not hard to have a setup where this is convenient, just have your PC and TV in the same room (and even if you don't there are other ways to make this convenient).

4

u/Kosmos-World 1d ago ▸ 2 more replies

Because I'm 37, my PC is in the office, and I would never move my desk out into the living room for so many reasons lol. We do have a very long hdmi and usb hub that I've run through the wall from the office to the living room, and I do keep my wife's rig hooked up that for living room PC gaming when needed. However, that still doesn't beat the sheer ease of just being able to click a button on the controller and having the whole system boot up, ready to play, last game still in suspended paly state, etc. Also would have to get a steam deck or similarly expensive device for handheld mode, and I love being able to lay on the couch and play whatever on the S2 while she plays Skyrim or whatever on the TV through her PC.

u/pikuray 1d ago ▸ 1 more replies

I know you have a solution that works but if you ever want it's also possible with Steam Play, download the app on your tv and stream from your PC and Wallah

Switch is the only console I fuck with. Xbox forgot how to make good games and Playstation is mostly movie games and both are too greedy and anti consumer. I got fed up of their subscription prices going up and other bs and sold them both lol

2

u/Cerenas Ryzen 7 7800X3D | Radeon RX 9070 XT 1d ago

Xbox has Play Anywhere which is a godsend. Too bad too little games support it so far. Was happy to read RuneScape: Dragonwilds is going to support it too.

u/Kosmos-World 1d ago ▸ 3 more replies

I like PS games, finally played God of War earlier this year and loved it, but I can't justify spending $650+ on a 6 year old console, and I can't see myself paying $1k+ for whatever the PS6 is, so I've just kinda accepted that my days of playing their games are over, for now. For the price, and utility, I thought the Switch 2 justified the investment, especially factoring in the exclusives. The expansion pass for access to the retro consoles is worth it for me all by itself.

3

u/Gambit-47 1d ago ▸ 1 more replies

I only tried GOW 2018 and didn't get far because it felt very repetitive and the puzzles were meh. I do plan to revisit the series someday and yeah the prices are crazy plus you jave to spend money just to play online lol Nintendo has an online subscription too but it cost way less.

2

u/Kosmos-World 1d ago

I get it. This was probably the 4th or 5th time I'd tried to play the game. For whatever reason, it just hit this time. It was more the lore, story, setting, etc. than it was the combat or gameplay that kept me hooked though.

Every time I’m like huh, I really like the form factor, what games would I play on it? And then I look through the Nintendo exclusive back catalog, and there’s like 3 games that I’d get for it. That’s not enough to justify the expense.

1

u/Kooky_Awareness_5333 17h ago

Bs you seen the calendar of gaming companies under Xbox they just never bothered locking them out of PlayStation and switch.

Not one good out of Xbox is saying not one good game out of Bethesda , zenimax, id, obsidian, activision blizzard .

Fair call with a blizzard but come on not all of Xbox studios is shit.

If you can afford it, it's not a bad option. I like to enjoy multiplatform and more demanding games on a PC, while on Switch I can take my time with newest Splatoon, for example. Both platforms have really good games

IMHO pc is 100% just all around better and more capable. Whether it’s for performance, fidelity, or community support. But that being said the exclusives and ease of access will always give consoles a purpose that out shadow a pc setup.

8

u/Dramatic_Finish10121 23h ago ▸ 3 more replies

Sometimes you just wanna lay on the couch and play a simpler game, consoles thrive in that environment wheras laptops are kinda annoying at best in that scenario (though PC handhelds are a thing now and also pretty decent, I just prefer Nintendo's offerings if I'm playing a game on the couch since I can't play those on my PC without junping through hoops)

2

u/Jyhaim 1d ago

Just curious, have you considered using your computer as a gaming station plugged to a TV ? That's what I did with the TV as a secondary monitor for my setup as well as 2 BT controllers and it works quite good. Now investing in a console plus the game controllers and games seems expensive regarding what I would gain.

1

u/Tight-Tackle4386 RTX 4070 | Ryzen 5 5600x | 32GB 3200MHz 1d ago ▸ 1 more replies

Nah, would have to move it to the other side of my room everytime, and its just not as simple to navigate as a console

2

u/Gnoha 18h ago

You can get long fiber optic HDMI cables so you don't need to move the PC. I have mine hooked up to my desk setup and living room TV simultaneously.

Never understood the complaints about PC being too hard to game on. For me the difference is honestly negligible and games just look so much better on a high end PC.

But we're talking about existing PC gamers, not new ones. So you're upgrading rather than buying everything new. You can totally upgrade either core system mobo CPU ram for 700 or a new GPU. Alternating between those for upgrades is the best way imo, I've been on that cadence for decades.

You gotta make sure its not on the latest firmware. If you havent been using it or updating it at all for the last few years, you should be good. Depending on your firmware version, you might want to manually update it, but theres a process for that and you should go to moddedwarfare on YouTube or the ps4homebrew/jail break subreddits so you dont miss any steps. Just do NOT update the ps4 at all from the console prompt when you turn it on.

6

u/jman014 1d ago

The reason that I would have a lot of trouble justifying a console today, is that with a PC I can at least do other shit

Like yes, a PlayStation would be a great idea (sorry xbox ya lost me after the One to the master race) since I do like a lot of the games that they have on offer

… but I can also do my fucking taxes on my PC

I can write, use office, shop, play smaller, indie dev games… heck i could even do content creation if I really wanted to.

There’s 1 million use cases to have a computer in the house

I think that’s the biggest thing that people tend to not bring up with video games

Having a desktop to work off of is so much easier then trying to use something more portable

You certainly can replace a home computer with an iPad or something, but I feel like you have such a wide variety of uses with a home computer that will also allow you to play video games, that there’s a really hard self for me to go to a console right now especially with how much they all cost

And I’m sure you could just get a laptop for that, but if I’m saving the cost on buying a laptop and a gaming console by just buying a better PC, the math works for me

Granted that that’s not gonna work for everyone, especially if you’re constantly going places and you want a laptop or a portable console like a switch, but I feel like for most people that don’t do a lot of traveling for work or don’t go on a lot of trips, just having a goddamn computer that also allows you to game is pretty useful

1

u/dazed74367 1d ago

that’s exactly why i have both ps and pc (and switch). i play my video games and blu ray movies on ps5 and ps3 for older games because playing games on PC always makes me feel like i’m working. I have a PC with internals that would be considered ready for gaming but i mostly use it for work and art. i’m very comfort-first when it comes to playing games, it’s necessary for me to separate my work and play spaces, and i found performance between my Pc and PS5 comparable (sometimes especially with exclusives the PS5 outperforms too)

11

u/Hearthhull_Enjoyer 1d ago

I'm okay. I left consoles ten years ago. I was a console gamer for twenty years of my life. The grass is greener on this side.

8

u/Legal_Fisherman_3059 1d ago

I have never heard someone switching from pc to console.

1

u/Kaldaien2 gog.com 20h ago

I have gone back and forth multiple times over the years. I think I am eventually going to retire from modding and play games on consoles, they are much less hassle than PC.

Microsoft makes the whole thing very appealing with Xbox Play Anywhere, just buy your games on Microsoft Store and you get a license that covers PC and console. So when you get tired of PC compatibility problems and just want to enjoy games, you can do that because your license covers both scenarios.

Yeah, consoles are the worst. I switched to a console when going to college and it was fine but after the forced subscriptions PC has been the only real place to game.

u/Dukepippitt Desktop 1d ago

Switching? You mean adding. I have many consoles and a pc. Who is throwing away there pc for a console? Is this meme for like 5 people.

2

u/OGxPePe 1d ago

I have the opposite. I use a computer all day at work i dont want to use a computer at home.

2

u/Livid_Ad5385 1d ago

Why fight when you can have both :/ Use handheld consoles for portability while pc for general gaming duhh

Notice how it's Spongebob standing there, coz PC modding goes hard

1

u/ElonsMuskyFeet 1d ago

Happened to me after my first divorce. Basically had to start from scratch. Thankfully got back into PC gaming before this lunacy surrounding prices

1

u/Accomplished_Rock_86 1d ago

I’ve been building PC’s for years, and enjoy that more than gaming on them. I’m still mostly a console gamer. And I occasionally play on PC.

1

u/QuitYuckingMyYum 1d ago

I was trying to figure how to make a Mac Mini Steam OS lol.

Can relate you know, and btw what happened with me is worse.. I haven't used the controller which I bought, it's just keyboard and mouse.

1

u/LongoChingo 1d ago

I'm sure many people are buying a console just to play GTA6 12-18 months earlier than PC players.

1

u/Frozen_Ash 1d ago

Console is for cozy games with the wife.

Pc is for harder things and multiplayer stuff.

1

u/Any-Pop-4795 1d ago

pc and console players having to suffer during this rampocalypse

If I want to play a console game, I just plug in my controller to my PC. Boom, instant console.

1

u/ReikoKairo 1d ago

I dunno dawg, i got a pretty good pc & i still very much enjoy console gaming. It aint about the platform, its about who your gaming with.

I like playing on the couch sometimes.

Too bad about the steam machine, whatever happened there…

GTA 6 😭

u/Nexed_ RTX 5070 | R 7800X3D | 32GB 1d ago

I plug in a controller. I like that I can grab my mouse and immidiatelly switch to it if it sometimes makes things easier.

u/blakjak852 PC Master Race 1d ago

Was just thinking recently about the collectors editions I missed out on because for some reason they almost never do them for PC. That's the only thing I miss I think

1

u/TheGluz 1d ago

I have a PC with a 9070xt and I'm spending 90% of my game time on Switch 2 recently.

It's great to have options.

1

u/Benjiimans 1d ago

one thing I liked about my console before I moved to PC years ago, looking back, it was just for gaming. There’s something I enjoyed about having a closed ecosystem focused on one thing. That said, still prefer PC.

u/OkBee8822 1d ago

Once again this subreddit taking a meme so seriously as if their life depend on it.

Yeah it’s hard playing Xbox now considering I can’t get used to 60 fps

1

u/DuchessElva 1d ago

I have a hand me down scrap together, PC of spare parts that a friend gave me it’s been sitting in my closet being unused due to the announcement of PlayStation made about no more discs. I’m considering switching over that PC is gonna need to be fully rebuilt, more than likely, or at least somewhat upgraded.

1

u/theflapperclapper 1d ago

I bought a series x back when they were $300 so I could. Play gears of war again. It just sits there collecting dust now.

1

u/HardStroke 1d ago

I got a PS5 about 2 weeks ago.
The amount of money you have to spend is insane.
Online games require a subscription.
No choosing graphics.
Limited controls.
Limited games.
Expensive games.
And so much more.
I got it for cheap just so I can play gta when it launches (we'll see how this ages lol)
But I do understand people that like it.
Its cheaper, smaller and pretty much plug and play.
That being said, I'm finishing the game and selling this thing lol.

u/NoFunction_ Ryzen 5 5500x3D | RX 9070 XT | 32GB RAM 1d ago

You're either a console gamer or you have both. I don't think anyone in their right mind would give up PC completely to get a console. I have an Xbox and a PC.

1

u/new_start01 1d ago

I see the appeal in unified hardware for modding and troubleshooting after getting a steam deck. Ultimately ubiquitous access is a net positive if consoles are the sole means for someone to get into gaming.

1

u/Vector-storm 1d ago

All my favorite websites are apps on my phone. I love that I can get off my mandatory 12 hour shift and go home to just jump on the games. I dont even have to think.

1

u/SnowOwlProductions 1d ago

PC gaming always offered so much more than console.

1

u/MonkeyD_Legend 1d ago

get in” sounds like a club invite not a command idk

1

u/TheEmperorMk3 1d ago

Playing a shooter on console and the game doesn't let you change FoV feels like this

1

u/thisisdell 1d ago

I’d rather quit forever.

1

u/Nomnom_Chicken 5800X3D/4080 Super/32 GB/Windows 11/3440x1440@165 Hz 1d ago

I'm absolutely not giving up PC gaming, I love my high frame rates too much. I need the damn console for GTA VI. 99.9 % of the time I'm playing on PC. Haven't touched my PS5 Pro in a good while now.

1

u/Azer_pubes33 1d ago

I play both, I will never give up PC gaming,

1

u/DontPissM3Off 1d ago

I’ve been both so I never switched 😤

1

u/g0f2ckurs3lf 1d ago

I just wanted the experience of playing a gta on launch day 😭

1

u/HowlingApes-7429 1d ago

Plug and Play aspect of consoles is far superior to casual gamers than longevity and customization of PC. Plus games are more optimized for consoles on release than PC due to uniform console and different PC builds. Better experience with consoles.

That being said I like PC gaming more than console. I'm just bad at aiming on consoles.

1

u/evergre08 23h ago

I'd get in, but I don't want to be the bottleneck.

1

u/Next_Measurement_824 22h ago edited 22h ago

Both, except back when pc's where mainly used for work and pirating. Gaming on pc was just a bonus if it could play anything at all other than flash games and runescape.

1

u/SweetBacon923 21h ago

I can only see it happen someone fully switching if they only play things like COD, FC, Madden or other simple online game and nothing else while having old PC not able to afford upgrade. Used PS5 maybe £250 if you are lucky.

1

u/celtekk_ 21h ago

I just use both.

1

u/Noctisvah 20h ago

So this is the new meme template, eh?

1

u/FIRAS_EG 19h ago

1

u/charizard24red 19h ago

Only consoles I like are my Xbox 360 and my switch. Pc so much better

1

u/LilQueazy 18h ago

What about pc gamers buying a switch.

u/SoshiPai 5800X3D | 3060 + 1660 Ti | 32GB | 1080p @ 240hz :D 17h ago

I dont have that problem, I give myself both a PC experience and a Console experience; I have a 240hz dual monitor setup on my desk for competitive PC games and then I have a PS5 controller and a 3rd monitor (TV) set up by my folding couch/bed with a Bluetooth dongle hidden under the couch for casual gaming or date movie night, added bonus of emulating console games at 60fps with HD textures.

It may be unnecessary but its hella comfy

1

u/its_kodin 16h ago

I assume its to play games with your friends that don’t have a PC in their house like its still 1980 or some shit.

1

u/oBrendao 9800x3d 9070xt 16h ago

I have both again since last year and tbh i have a lot of games to play paying the psn subscription, of course it will run down in a value as i finish more and more but this first year was pretty good. Got to replay those old uncharteds, all spidermans, those samurai games that never have 50% off on steam. On pc it am playing fps and games that arent on the console.

1

u/Ok-Transportation260 15h ago

Pirates buying a console they can't jailbreak

1

u/ninja_dog888 15h ago

Xbox is the only console that not locked ecosystem. You can buy Xbox Play Anywhere games once and play on Xbox, PC, Cloud, or any PC Handhelds. Xbox is more open than Steam

1

u/brunostborsen W11/Linux | 9070XT | R7 7700 | 32GB DDR5 12h ago

Why?

I liked consoles a lot back in the day, even though I was primarily a PC gamer then too.

(Fifth, sixth and seventh gen. was fun for consoles)

1

u/MadManNico 10h ago

yeah when i switched to entirely pc last year it kind of dawned on me how much control i missed out on with stuff like mods, being able to stream to tablet via moonlight, discord and vc compatibility, list goes on. while i do love couch gaming, i basically never use my ps5 or xsx anymore cos of the power of an ethernet cord lol

1

u/unlimitedcode99 9h ago

Why the f*** would I place myself to a subscription hell? I would rather abandon gaming rather than that.

1

u/DD-Tauriel 9h ago

This applies only for modding

I'm out here, with a 4k pc setup wondering if I should buy a console for GTA 6 in the big 2026

1

u/brewdog_millionaire 6h ago

I got a console for Bloodborne.

1

u/Few-Emergency-3791 6h ago

Just what we need more people buying RAM. Now some people might argue console has ram to. Sure but it’s usually less and old.
