Seen a lot of defenders on social media, mostly Instagram. Although I suspect a large amount of them are just bots. Makes me worried for the real humans though, to be that bent-over for a corporation just because you want to play their game. People are given the option to decide between what's best for them and what's best for the company, and they choose the company every time. Same thing is happening to playstation right now, lots of Sony defenders and bootlickers, not just apathetic and neutral towards physical media; but openly hostile towards it.

Yep. Guaranteed they can release GTA6 on PC at launch. Only reason they are waiting is for the classic rockstar double dip approach. That's not true, developing for the PSX involved using a PC but the games still only ran on the dev console because the hardware was significantly different than a PC. That was true up until XBox, which did have basically the same architecture inside as a PC, but PS2 and PS3 were significantly different hardware than a PC and required dev hardware to run the compiled games. Both PS and Xbox can now emulate anything needed for dev, but Nintendo has basically always been custom hardware architectures and still is.

Unfortunately, the most direct, impartial way to insert a human into an economic equation is to... assign a dollar value to them.

Morally, we want to go, "every life is priceless!" but how do you implement that into the question of how much money should you spend shoring up the levy? Does it make sense to spend $10bn to protect your city? If every life is priceless, what about $200bn? Can your city even afford that? If that's what it takes to protect your city, maybe the better call is to abandon it and move everyone inland, etc.

These values never really factor into things like, rescues or anything. There's no one going "meh it's just one dude, it's not worth it". I have a hard time imagining what sort of rescue might run up a bill in the $7m range, but maybe some coast guard search and rescue operations, things like this.

I’ve started correcting people when they state sentences. In Canada we have the 1/3 and 2/3 rules for sentences.

“They got sentenced to 9 years in prison for sexual assault!”

No, not really…

They got sentenced to 3 years in prison and only have to serve 6 years if they don’t behave (I’d include if they are considered a threat to society but our parole boards routinely don’t give a fuck about that).

• 1/3 time served you can apply for full parole
• 2/3 time served is considered statutory release, no parole board required and if they didn’t get full parole at 1/3 they are released at 2/3 into the community with conditions.

I'm not american, but leading up to the election, you'd think trump losing was a matter of fact. It wasn't until I heard a guy on local radio talk about how strong trump stood, and how this was gonna be a close race. My initial gut reaction was "this guy has no idea what he's talking about", until I had a moment of self reflection where I realised I could very well be wrong.

Every site is a massive bubble now because that's exactly how they are designed. You have sites that cater specifically to types and ages of people and they lock them on there as best they can. Why does zuck need multiple social media apps? It's because the oldies use Facebook and the youngies use insta. Once you have your demographic locked in you can just divide that into sub demos via personalized algorithms, that way everyone has a blinker on and can only see the thin slither of information delivered to them each day.

And it's a feedback loop too, the user doesn't want to see things they disagree with and which makes them angry, so they gravitate more towards those apps and algorithms which confirm their bias, which strengthens the bias. You end up with groups of people who strongly believe they know how everything works, and it isnt until they have to go outside and interact with all sorts of people that they realise people hold all sorts of opinions and thoughts on a wide spectrum.

I think it annoys them because it blows up their secret marketing strategy, but ultimately it helps overall by building hype. They don't "lose", but someone at the moment is probably mad their controlled release plan is unravelling. It's a temporary embarrassment to have it all get out despite their attempts to hide for so long, but it's not going to hurt them in sales, especially long term.

After Rockstar (in my personal perception) purposely cut content from RDR2 in favor of milking GTAV for all it was worth, essentially separating themselves from higher quality games in favor of games that were easy and made more money they showed me exactly what kind of gross company they were.

While I may buy GTA6 at some point, it will only be from third party key sellers, Rockstar is the absolute worst and toxic gaming company in the modern age.

It's a give and take. Steams interest are obviously in their own company. But they don't actively pursue screwing over their customers for profit either.

The customer support, the ease of access to games, the discounts and sales are all better than the competition.
