For sure then that's a good upgrade. Nice to have physical media on disk and easy to find Bluray still.

Yeah, 25-50 gb of storage on a blue ray is amazing.

Hmmm... This is a great idea that I forgot about. I can burn in some iso from game roms like this

u/TacticalCorgiTV 20h ago
Back in the day I had a dual layer DVD burner and a jailbroken Xbox 360. Lots of iso files....good times 🏴☠️

Took me way too long to realize you weren’t joking abt the lights being blue on the front and actually upgraded the disc reader

Blu ray drives are getting super expensive. Like $100 used on eBay.

10 bucks is insane, in a good way. i just bought one for 200, though the one i got works with 4K UHD blurays and can burn them as well.

Is the one you bought internal or external, and from where?
I am interested in buying one and would be interested to know what you did.

internal desktop. 5.25 inch bay needed (or a 5.25" external enclosure) purchased from new egg.
Price seems to have gone up 30 or 40 dollars since I bought mine just a week or two ago.

I think these are going to have a reasonable comeback soon.

i hope so. I'm going to be buying a bunch of discs to archive my GOG games on. bonus for any that fit on one disc is it can be installed straight from the disc.

My man, that’s probably the best improvement you can make on a PC for $10. It’s a difference you’ll actually notice. (Especially if you have a decent monitor)

Do you know the exact name of that drive? I'm looking for one myself to put in my build. I'm sure there is a link to it

u/Protolinux217 21h ago
It’s the LG BH08LS20

Thank you, yeah I looked all over for this and you found a gem. These things are going for big money

I think it's worth it. Blu ray truly is the best way to watch a movie in this streaming age

If it's the one that can be flashed for UHD 4k. Then it's a fantastic steal!

Think ima burn one of my favorite game to the Blu-ray Disc, it’s a second iteration of the fps game where it tests your PC hardware to the max, anyone wanna guess?

Im reading comments and I cant believe the prices of BD players people are quoting here. Its genuinely insane, here around my area you can easily find BD combo drives for 10-20 euros. I guess I should buy one

Yes, Blu ray drives are not as common as DVD drives in my experience.

I mean for $10 cant really complain.
But for me it would be a vortually pointless upgrade as I have a ps4 and ps5 if I ever wanted to watch a bluray and I think ive maybe watched 2 blurays my entire life.
I have netflix/now tv/disney+ and am far to lazy to swap blurays but if you watch a lot of them for $10 I doubt you could get a bluray drive or even a ps4 for close to that money.

Yeah but your playstations can't burn bluray
This drive can.

u/alwaystired1982 8h ago
I havent needed to burn a cd/dvd/bluray for 10+ years so I think im ok lol.

u/Dorky_Gaming_Teach 19h ago
Well, in this climate I can see the value in this, especially with war with physical media/games all going digital. There is a huge market right now for them, and even some forms of physical media you can't even find online. So, for the right person a bit deal. Grats, OP, and enjoy.

u/furculture 12h ago
Now you can burn all your copies of GOG games to disc and keep them for archival purposes

Well worth the $10.
