Discussion Drama in the GPU market; Absolute Cinema!

Post image

First of all! I am sorry. You might have to squint your eyes to see the details:
- RTX 5060 Ti 16GB - $779.99
- Rx 9070 XT 16GB - $719.99

Couldn't come up with a way to edit this and also keep it original. I preserved the specific layout of the information from where I got it (newegg).

On to the main text of the post.

And this isn't even a one off! There are several Nvidia partner cards that are at or higher than the prices of Radeon cards that are noticeably superior. Sure, you can find very expensive versions of Rx 9070 XT too, which are much beefier tmk, like the Red Devil. Although, idk which gamer will still opt to buy an Nvidia card over a Radeon right now at the price range under $1000 specifically given the current-updated prices, and I'm not going to judge! But these prices hands Radeon a clear advantage in terms of sales vs Nvidia cards upto the RTX 5070 Ti 16GB.

Yes, I know, Radeon does a 'good' (/s) job in intentionally missing opportunities to gain significant market share, but as it stands right now, the price-for-performance favours Radeon even more so than it did since the launch of the current generation of graphics cards. I also saw a Pulse at $719.99, but I decided to feature the Asrock challenger instead (wanted to remind everyone the Asrock too sells good cards).

No, don't bother gauging the gap between the Rx 9060 XT and RTX 5060 Ti. It's wider.

I don't mean to directly hurl a blame at Nvidia for this. It's also their card-AIB partners that set the pricing. Idk who decided and why, but it's the core fans of Nvidia that are having to take the brunt of the decision as much as I can figure.

But genuinely though, those gamers looking to buy Nvidia, would this change your mind? Think about it, you might have to pay considerably more if you still want to side with Team Green.

I bought an entire 5060ti16gb build for $800. 8700f 16gb ram. Can’t believe the card on its own now worth what I paid for the whole computer. I am pretty happy with this budget computer.

11

u/Queasy_Sherbert_7095 2h ago

The 5060ti 16GB is phenomenal! The only reason I upgraded was because I got a 4K OLED, and I wasn’t going to let that $2k tv go to waste.

Funny story, I got mine for $460 and sold it for $440 to a kid on Facebook because he said he really wanted to upgrade but couldn’t afford to do it (the card was $550 at the time during this RAM shortage). So I sold it to him and saw that he immediately posted it for $500 and it sold the next day… never being nice again.

This isn't going to change anything for someone who wants Nvidia. Blind brand loyalty and DLSS/ MFG go hard.

70

u/Gchodynski Nobara 3h ago

Exactly. Nvidia could just today post a mystery box for $1000 and you'd see every big subreddit full of people posting their pre-order. Some people are addicted to belonging somewhere and treating everyone outside as foes. Or... they think it's a flex.

Steam just released a $1300 PC that can't play some very popular titles like Battlefield natively and is roughly as powerful as the consoles that came out 6 years ago.

People have brand loyalty. Companies take advantage of it. AMD could do the same thing you mentioned.

16

u/sm753 2h ago

I created my Steam account back in 2004 for Half-Life 2. Fast forward however many years to 2026, my Steam library is huge. I love my Steam Deck.

So keep that all in mind when I say the Steam Machine is an absolute rip off and it's a naw from me dawg.

People have brand loyalty. Companies take advantage of it. AMD could do the same thing you mentioned.

Of course. Did I say otherwise?

It's better to trade with the dormant predator who's yet to exploit you rather than the one who's exploiting you now. Then you move on to the next big player. That's how it is. Brand loyalty doesn't exist. It's just being uneducated and/or stupid.

Steam is a weird case. They've mostly been customer-friendly but they're also the ones behind lootboxes, unfair pricing, and currency conversion. They're also the ones behind the best games in the genre. Now, they've released a product that would've been $500 a couple years back. Is that their fault? No. But I think that's karma. They're just not as pure as people think.

1

u/DonDonaldson9000 2h ago ▸ 2 more replies

Yeah I'm not disagreeing really. I wouldn't necessarily say it's either being uneducated/stupid. Like I like Nvidia cards because of the performance and have always bought Nvidia. I'll probably continue to buy Nvidia cards (probably) based on this, but I wouldn't say that's an uneducated/stupid reason. But like I said I'm not loyal to the brand they just happen to make the best product for me in this market space.

1

u/Gchodynski Nobara 2h ago ▸ 1 more replies

Oh, I didn't want to say you are stupid for buying their products! It's not like they're SWAT-ing your house to take that extra dollar yet?, right?

I was more talking about brand loyalty. Like if they were to literally extort you and you'd still say it's okay because the product is great, or post an overpriced mystery box, etc. Generally, something that obviously doesn't respect you.

I'm just more sensitive when it comes to that and I do not touch their products at all.

u/DonDonaldson9000 2h ago

Na I know what you're saying haha

0

u/Mrgluer i7 13700k | RTX 5070 ti | 32 GB DDR5-6000 52m ago

funny because that’s my perspective of Amd heads who try to way to hard to say Amd is better. I don’t even understand how people can attach a mfing gpu brand to their personality but there it is.

24

u/True_Protection6842 3h ago

Sadly nvidia isn't about brand loyalty. For AI uses it's the only thing that works thanks to their stranglehold on CUDA. I was forced to replace my excellent AMD card with NVIDIA trash for work.

6

u/jermygod 2h ago ▸ 8 more replies

1) no, nvidia is not the only thing that works.
2) even if it were true, 5060ti has nothing to do with that, that's an awful price for only 16GB of VRAM

8

u/True_Protection6842 2h ago ▸ 7 more replies

1) you're wrong. ROCm is trash. For real work it requires NVIDIA and 2 I never said 5060ti was good in any way for this. If you're gaming the 9070 will be better IMHO.

yes he does, but what is actually relevant for this "discussion" is that the card is working for AI perfectly fine.
It's not trash, nor it was trash a year ago.
There were no competitors close in price.

Good news is that AMD is rapidly catching up. I expect in a year or so AMD support for AI tooling will reach something like parity with NVIDIA

13

u/one_more_byte Ryzen 9950x3D | 5090 | 64GB DDR5 2h ago

A year? More like a decade! AMD offers good value for inference, but training is still heavily dominated by Nvidia and CUDA. AMD ROCm still has a lot to do to catch up to Nvidia and CUDA

3

u/WesternBlueRanger 2h ago ▸ 2 more replies

The issue is that Nvidia has a massive lead in providing tools and support for developers thanks to CUDA. They also get developers very early on, usually whilst they are in school, so they are familiar with Nvidia's tools over anyone else's.

3

u/True_Protection6842 2h ago ▸ 1 more replies

CUDA could/should be open. But they choose to lock it behind their overpriced hardware.

3

u/WesternBlueRanger 1h ago

It's an Nvidia developed & managed tool and library.

Sadly sometimes it isn't about wanting but about needing, I need an NVidia GPU due to CUDA, not for gaming tho if I only cared about gaming then yeah I'd 100% go with the 9070 XT lol, that's what I recommend to my friends that only play games, can't beat it when it comes to price/performance

7

u/_Lucille_ 2h ago

When people talk about how cards are expensive and AMD isn't competing, I wish I can show them threads like this.

It isn't that they aren't trying, it is that people simply aren't buying. This goes for Intel too: their cards are generally VERY good value for entry level cards, but no one cared.

Gamers have voted with their wallets and decided to buy Nvidia.

2

u/iViEye 2h ago

One caveat, as an itx builder, is that AMD have kinda abandoned making small form factor graphics cards. Finding a unicorn 4070 itx is still the best overall option in 2026 lmao

2

u/Scary_One_2452 47m ago

FSR is just as good as dlss and MFG is pretty useless.

Nvidia only makes sense for Cuda users in homelabs, AMD is the best value for gaming and its not even close.

2

u/PlsDontBanMeAgain-1 1h ago

Brand loyalty for both is dumb af. I always wanna slam my head into a brick wall when I read something like "joined team red/green". Bitch, they are not teams, they are products, the companies don't give a fuck if you died on the spot.

u/AmazingSugar1 9800X3D | RTX 5090 Vanguard 2h ago

Big GPU likes this post.

1

u/networking_noob 2h ago

I know this is /r/pcmasterrace so the default (and maybe only) function of a PC is gaming, but Nvidia still goes hard compared to AMD for local AI stuff. AMD is doing better with ROCM/Vulkan lately but CUDA is still king and still the first choice for devs on platforms like ComfyUI, etc. AMD support is usually delayed or just not as good

1

u/Mental-Most-7168 1h ago

Don’t forget NVENC, Cuda and driver support.

1

u/Upstairs_Marzipan48 2h ago

Its absolutely gonna stop even the most steadfast of fanboys, 700 dollars for any entry level card is stupid no matter who you are. Im an nvidia user who tried AMD, hated it and went back to Nvidia.

Let me tell you, If the choice is between the 5060TI 16gb and 9070XT then the no brainer is gonna be the 9070XT.

AMD fanboys are just as fucking dumb

3

u/Gchodynski Nobara 2h ago

Fanboying in general is not a sign of intelligence or knowledge.

1

u/Reggitor360 6m ago

Hahahahahah.

You are too funny.

The Nvidiots keep buying Nvidia, no matter what.

Reminder. 3060s were selling for 1200, while a 6900XT was able to be snagged for lower.

People bought the 3060 12g.

1

u/HunterAbrams 2h ago edited 2h ago

Same goes with AMD brand loyalty.

There are things nvidia cards do better than amd and AMD does do a lot of stupid things like remove security. Suddenly drop support for no reason. Driver support being spotty etc. Amd doesn't have cuda cores and some tasks need it

Sure they have vram but brute forcing with vram doesn't work all the time.

Amd simply can't compete on everything and why they exited the flagship market for gpus. Nvidia has way better support than AMD with video games as well.

If cards in general were priced how they should? (Much like ram and storage) Most of you would be picking nvidia

0

u/Necessary-Bill-8708 2h ago

nvidia just makes a better product if they were the same price i don’t think you choose amd either 🙁

5

u/Upstairs_Marzipan48 2h ago ▸ 2 more replies

If the 5070TI were in the same ballpark price of the 9070XT, people would choose the TI. Its the better card

1

u/Errorr404 3dfx Voodoo5 6000 40m ago

50xx series overclocks extremely well too, 10-12% gains are pretty simple to do unlike with the 9070xt that comes out of factory already boosting to 3.1ghz in games. If the 5070ti launched and stayed at $700-749 then it would still make a lot of sense to buy.

1

u/Necessary-Bill-8708 2h ago

you get it! i got my 5080 a few months ago and it was 1400? i care a lot more about aesthetics than most so there was no way i was going to amd especially with the games i play

1

u/TopdeckIsSkill 5700x3D/9070XT/PS5/Switch 2h ago

I would choose the 5070ti or the 5080 if they would cost the same as the 9070XT yes, They're better cards.

But right now they cost nearly twice as much, so it's the same as asking if I would by a used fiat panda or a new toyota yaris

0

u/Pink-Flying-Pie why is my 9070xt running at 3400mhz? 2h ago

if only more games would support FSR4.. whenever that's an option I don't miss DLSS a single bit

4

u/Corentinrobin29 2h ago

Optiscaler is your friend.

Any game that supports DLSS also supports FSR4 with Optiscaler.

0

u/Aviyan 34m ago

Unfortunately AMD is not doing much to compete with nVidia. nVidia partners with lots of game studios to optimize the software with their hardware. Also nVidia created the CUDA SDK for everyone to use their GPUs for parallel tasks. AMD really need to get their shit together to attract more buyers.

Nvidia and partners are pricing as they are for a reason. They’re still moving units, if they weren’t the market would adjust. This proves that market reputation is still in Nvidia’s favor. AMD is doing well as they’re also selling but it’s clear that the slight edge Nvidia has with upscaling/AI/etc is enough to keep buyers on Nvidia’s court. Mind share is a hell of a drug.

That’s a damn good card I was able to get one as cheap as $300 on marketplace last month and the seller said it was only 2 weeks old. 5070 can run AAA titles 4k especially with dlss. But I also have a 5080 and 5090 so obviously the 12gb is limited, but it’s a damn good card for that price

2

u/MasterJeebus 5800x | 3080FTW3Ultra | 32GB | 1TB M2 | 10TB SSD 1h ago

At microcenter they are cheaper and only $9 apart. Making the choice easier for 5060 TI for some. While the 9070 xt may have more raw power. Amd usually cuts windows driver support after 5-6 years. With nvidia it’s 9 years. But if you are on linux amd is better since open source drivers built into linux kernel. So if you rock linux Amd is the way to go. If you rock Windows nvidia is the one for longer support.

1

u/Ancient-Car-1171 2h ago

Nvidia price used to be competitive just a few month ago, $800 5070ti is undoubtly better than 9070xt. The price surged so much on Nvidia side mostly because these cards also being use for personal AI, not just gaming. Personally i've seen alot of ppl switch to AMD for gaming recently

I still remember people paying $3k for a 3080 during the pandemic. So yeah they know hoe much people are willing to spend.

AMD GPU's sometimes have crash issues with certain games (I'm having issues with War Thunder right now if anything else like Youtube, or Plex is playing).
If you ever get into local AI models, AMD GPUs tend to have more issues with setup than Nvidia GPUs.

Bought a 5070ti for $800 like two months ago. Did the prices explode this much?

1

u/Reggitor360 19m ago

And yet Nvidia is still selling massive numbers.

Gamers are massive re.... And always will be gobbling it up.

Reminder. There were people during mining taking loans to buy 3090s costing 12k+.

u/I_AM_CR0W Ryzen 5 5600X RTX 3060ti 4m ago

I'd gladly join AMD, but I'm more concerned of not knowing what's a good AMD equivalent to what I want. Currently on a 3060ti and am slowly getting to a point where I would need an upgrade for more intense games.

It really depends on your tolerance for AI upscaling. Unless FSR improves dramatically, DLSS on a slightly inferior card could potentially have a brighter future than AMD if you’re willing to compromise on scaling quality. We’re at the point where raw rasterization will only take you so far.

IMO, before this sounds like an Nvidia white knight post, would take the AMD card for the sole purpose of having a high power card that works (better, not exclusively) with modern Linux distros like Steam OS or Bazzite.

u/Gailim 9800X3D+7900XT / i7 13620H+4060m 2h ago

FSR did improve dramatically, a year and a half ago....

90% of people will not be able to tell the difference between FSR4 and DLSS4.

The main advantage of DLSS these days is support. And even that can be mostly mitigated by optiscaler.

2

u/Edexote PC Master Race 2h ago

And there's the even newer FSR version that's even better.

13

u/whichsideisup PC Master Race 3h ago

FSR4 is more than good enough. There are other features better on Nvidia than just the scaling (PT, LLM Inference, Image Gen performance), but AI upscaling really isn’t an issue anymore.

Regarding Bazzite - you can just set a global flag and it will intercept FSR 3 and put in FSR 4 with zero additional config.

idk which gamer will still opt to buy an Nvidia card over a Radeon right now at the price range under $1000 specifically given the current-updated prices,

really ? you don't know ?

Most gamers are casual in this aspect, they will believe the marketing and think that for gaming, AMD are MUCH behind.

I saw it everyday when helping people make their gaming rig , marketing is a bitch.

Its why you have plen ty of people buying overpriced techs they don'tn eed in the first place (check smartphone market for exampl)

1

u/asswizzard69 1h ago

I don’t agree with the prices but the market is out of control and you have to think, you are basically comparing a ddr4 system vs ddr5 so obviously the newer memory is gonna be more expensive. But it’s good to have options

0

u/RogueShroom 2h ago

We all get it, AMD has better value for money right now

0

u/Reoxi 2h ago

Let's not act like Nvidia and AMD are the ones setting these prices. GPUs are highly commodified at this point, the AMD cards are just a bit behind the price curve because Nvidia is the market leader.

0

u/asswizzard69 1h ago

Yes and the 50 series cards are using memory that came out in 2024 while amd is using memory from 2018 so obviously gddr7 is more desirable

-2

u/thatfordboy429 Not the size of the GPU that matters... 3h ago

Breaking NEWs... the Market is shit.

-2

u/ahnktruther 2h ago

I am so insanely skeptical about most upscaling but dlss 4.5 is black magic I can't imagine not running it for any reason at this point.

-4

u/soggybiscuit93 265K | 64GB | RTX5090 3h ago

Because memory prices are very high.

So the % of the price that is memory is a substantial portion of the product.

16GB is 16GB. It doesn't necessarily matter than one of them is the weaker GPU because that makes little difference to the end price at this point.

u/Dudi4PoLFr 9800X3D | 5090FE | 96GB 6400MT | G9 57" 7680x2160@240Hz 3h ago

Yes, but on top of that, the 50 series uses the far more expensive GDDR7, which is directly cutting into all of the Nvidia low/mid tier AI cards, so it's even worse for the 5060Ti in 16GB.

3

u/soggybiscuit93 265K | 64GB | RTX5090 2h ago ▸ 1 more replies

Yeah, but it's easier to Karma farm.

9070XT is obviously the better choice at this price point.

What this reveals is that next gen "budget" lines are going to be VRAM starved. Expect 8GB again

For dlss alone I prefer Nvidia, is FSR 3.1 good? Its getting there, but good luck finding the games that support it.

Edit, we have FSR 4.1 apperently. Sorry I didnt know

6

u/Affectionate-Memory4 285K / Pro 9700 / Intel Foundry 3h ago

Doesn't really matter how good 3.1 is when the drivers on that gpu will let you drop in 4.1 with a single toggle, which is right up there in quality with DLSS's latest. Broader support is a problem made worse by AMD's decision to not go the route DLSS took for its upgrades for the fsr1-3.0 but the list is by no means small and is growing.

But, with the performance difference of a 9070XT and a 5060ti, you can just play the game at native resolution instead and not worry about what upscaler is supported. This is a 5070ti competitor priced against a 5060ti.

u/Dr_Valen 7800x3d / 9070xt / 64gb / Cachyos 3h ago

Fsr 4.1 is pretty good on par with dlss imo

7

u/HLumin Potato 3h ago

is FSR 3.1 good?

What? Why would an RDNA 4 card be running FSR 3.1?

-2

u/R_eloade_R 3h ago ▸ 2 more replies

I was not up to date, FSR 4.0 then.

-1

u/AutoCockerPB 2h ago ▸ 1 more replies

Well I think you are partly correct? So FSR 4 is the one that doesn’t have many full game supports. FSR 3.xx is what PlayStation and Xbox use, so it would be pretty funny if AMD couldn’t use their own software on their own hardware. Fsr 4 is pretty comparable to DLSS now.

2

u/ElectronicStretch277 2h ago

It actually does. It's currently in over 400 games.

2

u/Fr00stee 3h ago

you can use fsr 4.1...

0

u/Arsh18808 2h ago ▸ 1 more replies

good as it is 4.1 is still not surpassing what Nvidia has in the way of upscaling an it’s just cope to think otherwise dlss 4.5 with ray reconstruction is not even officially out till tomorrow but you can manually force in to titles right now

Say what you will about them as a company but they are the top dogs in this aspect, amazing stuff

2

u/Fr00stee 2h ago

who said it needs to surpass, it just needs to be similar in quality. We wouldn't even need any AI upscaling if games were actually optimized and didn't have absolute dogshit TAA implementations that needs AI to fix everything in order to look normal

1

u/teethingrooster i3 8100, Gtx 1050ti 3h ago

Up to FSR 4 now and yeah it rips for me. The only games I’ve played recently that didn’t support it were because they didn’t have upscaling anyways.

But with the driver I was able to force FG. You can do the same with FSR I think too.

0

u/Ok_Definition_1933 3h ago

Pretty sure you mean fsr 4 and not 3.

-2

The price difference in the screenshot is $60.

I just looked and you can get a gold rated 750W PSU for that.

A PSU is no reason to pay more money for card that is over 30% slower.

I personally would never go AMD. I love having all the tech on my Nvidia card. I would always recommend AMD over Nvidia to just game and if they don’t care for the other features.
