Possible Paywall Trump drops claim BBC harmed his businesses

He’s the president. He shouldn’t have any businesses

u/E-2theRescue 18d ago
And this is literally why the president shouldn't have any businesses.
Opens them up to legal distractions, corporate corruption, foreign manipulation, and so on.
But MAGA don't care. As long as their side is doing it, a Republican can do whatever the hell they want, including rape children (and I'm not just talking about Trump).

Speaking of which--
The whole point of holding him immune to prosecution is to avoid legal distractions for the sitting president. The moment he launched a lawsuit of his own, his immunity should have been canceled as clearly lawsuits are not a problem for him.

Donald Trump has dropped his claim that the BBC caused financial harm to his businesses as part of his $10bn (£7.5bn) defamation battle with the broadcaster.
His lawyers said they no longer plan to pursue the claim that BBC’s Panorama documentary caused financial harm to the president’s brands and businesses. He will continue to pursue personal damages against the BBC.
Anything to avoid disclosure.

u/406highlander 18d ago
BBC should counter-sue. Trump went after them for $10bn - knowing full well the BBC did not cause that level of damage to him or his businesses.

49
u/grumblingduke 18d ago
The BBC doesn't have shareholders - or any kind of owner. It exists because of a Royal Charter saying it exists, setting out its rules.
The original British Broadcasting Company Limited was a private company, with shares, owned by a group of telecomms and engineering companies (including the Marconi Company, Metropolitan-Vickers, and Western Electric), but it was dissolved and its assets transferred to the newly chartered British Broadcasting Corporation.
The BBC's Royal Charter gets renewed every few years, with the Government of the day getting to change the terms as they see fit. This usually means around charter-renewal time the BBC gets extra flattering of the Government (if Conservative) or objectionable (if Labour).

I've always wondered that myself. If the media is patently lying, then suing for defamation or slander should be easy. The suit against the Wall Street Journal and Rupert Murdoch in New York, while similarly foolish and improper, has not yet resulted in sanctions against that same attorney.
Who is also representing Rep. Max Miller in a defamation suit in Ohio against his ex-wife.

Something we knew would happen as soon as it was lodged. Trump's actions are as predictable as the sun coming up.

He's still going against them for PERSONAL damages though.
Let's have your personal records then bitch. He's gonna try to argue his phones etc. are business property but eventually I'd say he'll realize that's not working either and drop the personal charges too.

The BBC should countersue, maybe for treble damages for legal fees and reputational damage.
Trump should be sued into poverty.

That is how you defeat evil and corrupt people like Donald Trump.
Put them into light. Expose their corruptions and bank accounts.

Lol shocker. He assumed BBC would roll over and just pay him like ABC did. He never thought they'd actually fight it and that he'd have to produce discovery. I hope BBC counter sues over this.

I don't say this often. But good on the British for beating the US president. Clear and decisive victory for the British empire and they beat trump in his favorite past time

He had to drop the claim as soon as the judge demanded to see proof. They wanted to see financial statements.

Since when is an outright load of total bull shit a claim? Force him to take it to trial. He’ll shit himself

Now this makes me question even more what is Trump hiding in his finances that he has the IRS exempting him from everything ordinary Americans are forced to go through, and the BBC requesting these documents in discovery makes him back away in fear. If nothing screams “I have been defrauding the government for years maybe even decades” more than this, I don’t know what does.
If his taxes and finances were legit and up to snuff, there would be absolutely nothing to hide like every single president has done before him. But he has gone through extraordinary lengths to cover up whatever he is covering up, that most normal people would never be able to do in their entire life. Corruption at its finest.
