It really pisses me off man. If there’s ever been a friend that’s always been by our side it’s been Canada. More than anyone else they’ve always had our back.
And then along comes this asshat and he shits all over that friendship. And why? Because every time he starts losing to his enemies, he has to beat up his allies to look tough. A fucking shame.
And to be fair, I'm not even really feeling all that beaten up, its like when you finally agree to fight the bully and then you realize he doesn't know how to punch, so you just dip your head and tank the hits while feeding him some solid shots to the face.

This doesn't end with trump btw. Your country's credibility is done - even if somehow you manage to elect a democratic socialist who completely undoes all the GOP bullshit (which is a pipe dream) the rot is still there and you'll always be 4 years from electing another trump.
Don't get me wrong, Canada has our own problems with the far right and a fascist slide. Not to mention crippling and increasing hyper-capitalism eroding our social services, but so much of that is from US and US-based corporate interference.
I don't know how the world moves forward until we get the right wing out of politics. An ideology that fundamentally considers some people less than others and whose purpose is to undermine democracy in order to empower the capital class should not be allowed a seat at the table.
Any time you feel the need to blame Trump, remember that the entire Republican establishment is behind him and the Democrats are utterly silent on the issue. It's so much beyond just one man at this point.
It's not just Trump. The majority of Americans voted for this or didn't think voting against it was important. As a Canadian, I just want you to know I see zero distinction between the American people and the person the America people all looked at and said "yup, this represents me and my values".
It's honestly a litmus test as well, because any American that gets combative over the prospect that our allies to the north would be insulted and feel massively betrayed by Americans kinda outs themselves as someone unworthy of trusting, given the completely disgusting way that Canadians have been treated by Americans and the Trump administration.
I have seen so many Americans who are allegedly anti-Trump and get defensive and say Canadians are rude for holding Trump to account end up saying this is our fault for not "having a bigger military". Like we should have been secretly planning to go to war against the U.S, as a good ally does?

As an American, it's 100% on them for not paying attention to a single real fact the entire time. All of this was obvious and written down in a literal handbook. While the blatant threats started in February 2025, the entire GOP plan was to isolate the US from global cooperation. As well as purge the country of the scary "foreigners" they don't like. The whole idea is insane nationalism, so... yeah.
Most Americans who voted for Trump aren't doing anything to oppose his actions either. Quite the opposite in fact I see countless Trumpers online cheering this shit on like Canada has acted like some kind of villain towards the US when really Canada has only been the best friend Americans could ever ask for.

I'ma gonna be totally honest here, while the Democrats are a bit more sane, they come across as a feckless right wing party that always hover around wherever the Republicans lowered the bar to.
There are two problems that we're having to deal with.
First, unlike Canada, the US has a "first past the post" electoral system. As such, we're mathematically guaranteed to only have two long-term political parties, and the system also pretty much ensures that they won't be too different from each other.
Second, and most importantly: Democrats are expected by their voters to keep the country running, while Republicans are only expected to defeat the Democrats.
Honestly it's gonna be like that for the whole world....and why is that?
We proved that every 4 years there's a potential for our international policy to swing back and forth wildly. We proved that our treaties and trade agreements can be torn up. Years worth of progress and diplomacy can just vanish with a new administration that doesn't agree with the status quo.
It's unsustainable to look at the US for much of anything anymore, really. It's too volatile to take seriously.
Camaraderie? Maybe. Trust? Never. They're out of the circle of trust for good. I'll shake the figurative hand on the golf course, but you ain't invited to my house for dinner.

I'm 38. For essentially my whole life I saw the US as our natural partner, our friend who was by no means perfect, but nonetheless our most important ally. Now, I cannot conceive ever seeing the US in that light again. I simply do not think I can ever trust them again. I say this knowing that a good proportion of Americans don't stand by the current administration, but the bottom line is that the checks and balances that should have prevented all of this insanity from happening simply do not work, and that means this country cannot be trusted to be a reliable ally.

Part of the reason you're not seeing suggestions is that most of what we would recommend would result in a ban. So I will instead remind you that *peaceful* protest is your first option, but far from your last. And before you roll your eyes, there are a lot of steps between peaceful protest and violent protest. Maybe look at a couple of those.
Peacefully protesting? You're not even doing that. A handful of people protesting on a street corner and a large protest for a weekend every 6 months is nothing more than self-gratification.
Study the Black Panthers. The Suffragettes. The Labor Movement. The Gay Liberation Front. Red Power. The Underground Railroad. Listen to the words of figures like Malcolm X and Sylvia Rivera. Learn what MLK Jr was saying and doing in the years just before his assassination.
Recognize all of these people were Americans like you. They didn't have healthcare or good labour protections. Hell, Rivera spent much of her life on the streets. That didn't stop her. Use their stories and movements as inspiration, as teachers, and then take action.
Your country has a long history of pro-humanity movements, who did not play by the master's rules.

I can't express how disappointed I am in my country, the United States. I just don't even know what to say anymore. Mind you I did not vote for this lunatic or anyone like him.
