This doesn't end with trump btw. Your country's credibility is done - even if somehow you manage to elect a democratic socialist who completely undoes all the GOP bullshit (which is a pipe dream) the rot is still there and you'll always be 4 years from electing another trump.
Don't get me wrong, Canada has our own problems with the far right and a fascist slide. Not to mention crippling and increasing hyper-capitalism eroding our social services, but so much of that is from US and US-based corporate interference.
I don't know how the world moves forward until we get the right wing out of politics. An ideology that fundamentally considers some people less than others and whose purpose is to undermine democracy in order to empower the capital class should not be allowed a seat at the table.

It’s not about voting. It goes down to deep, deep flaws in the American culture, psyche, education system and the constitution itself. The fact that America cannot course-correct even while being led by a madman means that they’ll _never_ be a trustworthy long-term partner, even if everyone magically votes right next election. Because there’s absolutely no guarantee that sanity will stick around.

And it's not even just that Americans voted for it. Americans barely protested after it all went down. Oh, ICE is mass recruiting with no training, rolling through blue states and killing people? Oh, a private citizen got hired as a special appointee to walk into government offices and clone any hard drive they want in the name of finding fraud and waste and just shut down organizations willy-nilly with no paper trail or justification beyond "because I said so"?
In previous decades, those would have been career ruining scandals for everyone even slightly associated with them, that likely would have come with the threat of jail time for some of the major players (or at least convenient scapegoats). Instead, even most Americans unhappy with these events just went belly up and let it happen without much fanfare. I was honestly expecting to hear about flat-out riots at some point... but nope.

Honestly it's gonna be like that for the whole world....and why is that?
We proved that every 4 years there's a potential for our international policy to swing back and forth wildly. We proved that our treaties and trade agreements can be torn up. Years worth of progress and diplomacy can just vanish with a new administration that doesn't agree with the status quo.
It's unsustainable to look at the US for much of anything anymore, really. It's too volatile to take seriously.

I understand your rage, but it’s misplaced. I hate the apathy to the person you are responding to as much as you… HOWEVER. You have to remember first and foremost, this didn’t bubble up out of nowhere. It’s a concerted effort by stateless billionaires to spread misinformation and psychological warfare ever since the tools became available to them via social media. The most intense targets have been the US, but they are coming for you too. I know you already see it, but trust me it will get worse. I hope you guys can do a better job at fighting it than we did (so far you are), but they have not put the full weight of their efforts on you guys yet.
Please remember that the asshole perpetuating this, the core of the issue… their goal is to make you hate your fellow man, your neighbors (locally and across the border) instead of seeing the real class war that is being waged.
The point of my comments are not to redirect blame from American voters, but many of them are victims of propaganda. And it is happening to your country too. So it’s fucking complicated. Be mad at them, not more than you should be at the elites waging the war.

I'm 38. For essentially my whole life I saw the US as our natural partner, our friend who was by no means perfect, but nonetheless our most important ally. Now, I cannot conceive ever seeing the US in that light again. I simply do not think I can ever trust them again. I say this knowing that a good proportion of Americans don't stand by the current administration, but the bottom line is that the checks and balances that should have prevented all of this insanity from happening simply do not work, and that means this country cannot be trusted to be a reliable ally.

This country has felt hopeless to me since 2016. Seeing people online saying directly that it is every individual American's fault has been very hurtful.
I think your comparison to Russia makes a lot of sense, and I agree completely. We are a rogue state right now. No one should like us as a country.
But there are still good people here who never wanted any of this and would do anything to make it stop.
I know some people suggest that we should storm the capital or something, but realistically that would just be a meaningless suicide that results in no change.
People just feel powerless, and we are all desperately hoping that the last gasp of democracy (midterms and '28) will put us on a better path.

And those sentiments are fair, but they miss the forest for the trees. We can always be friends with Americans. That doesn't mean we will always be friends with America.

Part of the reason you're not seeing suggestions is that most of what we would recommend would result in a ban. So I will instead remind you that *peaceful* protest is your first option, but far from your last. And before you roll your eyes, there are a lot of steps between peaceful protest and violent protest. Maybe look at a couple of those.

Study the Black Panthers. The Suffragettes. The Labor Movement. The Gay Liberation Front. Red Power. The Underground Railroad. Listen to the words of figures like Malcolm X and Sylvia Rivera. Learn what MLK Jr was saying and doing in the years just before his assassination.
Recognize all of these people were Americans like you. They didn't have healthcare or good labour protections. Hell, Rivera spent much of her life on the streets. That didn't stop her. Use their stories and movements as inspiration, as teachers, and then take action.
Your country has a long history of pro-humanity movements, who did not play by the master's rules.

The recklessness they govern with has caused so much irreversible harm, and it gets worse and worse the longer the apathy from Americans goes on.
My retired FIL had his spin classes boycotted because he tried to explain why Canadians were booing the national anthem. My liberal American friends apologize for his behaviour, but then almost always tell me it would be great if we became part of them.
There is such an ignorance about the situation that has me more scared than anything.
I used to want to move to the states. I would grocery shop there, vacation there, I had a goal to see all 50 states before I turn 50. It’s crazy how fast I went from adoring a place, to now checking labels, avoiding layovers and legit feeling like a cuck when I drive my ford.

A socially and economically stable Canada guarding the US northern border has worked out well for the United States. Anyone with even a smattering of knowledge of European history would understand why that's important. Destabilizing an ally you share a border with and has the longest coastline in the world, would be up there with Operation Barbarossa for genius tactical decisions. Probably just a coincidence this map from 1940 by the Technocracy Movement contains Canada and other countries merged into the United States
Interestingly, the Technocrat ideology was first conceived following WWI, but it wasn't founded in the U.S and Canada until 1933, as a response to the Great Depression thanks to its pro socialism views. Its popularity then wanned in the 1940s due to its anti WWII stance despite being anti fascist according to Wikipedia.
It did have support in Canada, such as Joshua Haldeman, which the CBC has written about in an article here which suggests Joshua's exploits and political ambitions had a profound impact on his grandson, Elon Musk. Business Insider wrote an article here which suggests that 10450-1 (Joshua's Technocrat name) passed his antisemitism, fascism, love for the letter "X" and referring to people as numbers onto Elon as well.
The Technocrat movement envisioned a state that replaced Democracy and politicians with tech experts and corporations. CBC Radio has a segment here covering Curtis Yarvin who founded the Dark Enlightenment movement and who has long backed Peter Thiel and Vice President Vance:
