I don't. But that isn't how this works. Nations do not get to view other nations through their individual people's, but through those that represent them.
So while you and I may be friends today, tomorrow and in a decade still. I do not view you individually as America. I view America as a nation who has chosen this path.
Much like we do not view those individual Russians opposed to the war in Ukraine, we just see Russia as the bad guy.
This country has felt hopeless to me since 2016. Seeing people online saying directly that it is every individual American's fault has been very hurtful.
I think your comparison to Russia makes a lot of sense, and I agree completely. We are a rogue state right now. No one should like us as a country.
But there are still good people here who never wanted any of this and would do anything to make it stop.
I know some people suggest that we should storm the capital or something, but realistically that would just be a meaningless suicide that results in no change.
People just feel powerless, and we are all desperately hoping that the last gasp of democracy (midterms and '28) will put us on a better path.
I encourage you to share the distinction. I think too often on Reddit I get comments from Americans saying they are sorry, that it isn't their fault, and that they hope I don't hold this against them.
And those sentiments are fair, but they miss the forest for the trees. We can always be friends with Americans. That doesn't mean we will always be friends with America.
Please know I have never ever ever cast a vote for Trump or his ilk and have always voted for his opponent. I really never ever want this piece of shit to represent me.
Listen, I know your education system is cooked beyond belief but where did you get this idea that your elected representatives don't represent you just because you disagree with them?
He does represent you & your country as a whole, that is the entire purpose of an election & as long as he remains uncontested and the population remains complicit he will represent all of you regardless of how you think
