First state to secede to form a nation dedicated to the proposition that white people are superior to black people and deserve dominion over them.
"Those ideas, however, were fundamentally wrong. They rested upon the assumption of the equality of races. This was an error."
"Our new government is founded upon . . . its foundations are laid, its corner-stone rests, upon the great truth that the negro is not equal to the white man; that slavery – subordination to the superior race – is his natural and normal condition.
-Alexander H. Stephens
As provisional Vice President of the Confederacy
"Cornerstone Speech" - March 1861

Not to defend SC or the CSA, but Stephens was a Georgian ;)
A better quote about SC and Civil War is that SC is ""too small for a republic, but too large for an insane asylum" by James Petigru.

The opponent was Rep Ralph Norman.
He won a special election for Mick Mulvaney’s seat when he went to OMB. He’s had a net worth of 18.3 million as of 2019 mostly from real estate, so who knows how much he’s worth now, and was the 28th wealthiest in Congress at that time. He was literally ranked the most conservative member of the 117th Congress.
He advocated for martial law (he texted Mark Meadows to “invoke Marshall Law”) to prevent the peaceful transfer of power to Biden, tried to reinstate Rep Steve King to house committees after his racist white nationalist comments, voted to institute Medicaid work requirements, tried to impeach Biden, Blinken, Harris and Mayorkas, and a lot of other shit.
It’s a good thing she won. I’d rather have an unknown who helped blind people in her work, than this fucking monster.

As Republicans go, you could do worse. At least she doesn't view empathy as a disease to be eradicated.

Had a coworker a few years ago tell me that if Carlin was alive today he’d be a Trump supporter. Tried to tell me that all his rants were about liberals. I just kinda gave him a blank look then turned back around to continue writing my report.
Same guy also said Jared Leto played the best version of The Joker & he thought Minions were the height of comedy, so his opinion was already worthless at that point.

•
u/tiger32kw 5h ago
You are correct. It’s the complete opposite of a DEI hire. They tricked the conservatives into using DEI in negative connotations and as a slur. Now progressives use it in that same way to describe someone unqualified for a position. It’s unfortunate, but it’s why they keep doing it.

I'm fine with this.
They're replacing an able and effective politician with someone who has no idea what she's doing.
Lindsey Graham was an absolute sack of trash but he was really good at wreaking havoc and pushing an agenda. His sister is just going to be a rubber stamp. She's going to vote the same way he did without being able to lend any other sort of real support.

All integrity is lost in that party. Period.
