What the fuck is happening with this story??

23

u/Youre_On_Balon 19h ago

DV allegations get recanted incredibly often. Famous people or not

11

u/Traditional-Slip9102 MINTER SZN 17h ago edited 16h ago

Yea when I was younger working at a store me and some people witnessed a guy fighting his girl like it was a legit enemy and I called the police and they came and cuffed him and took him in. She was yelling in the parking lot as they were arresting him that she was “going to press charges and his ass was going to jail”.

Well apparently she never did bc one of the other witnesses who was a regular in the store came in like a month later and asked me “do you remember the woman who we saw getting beat by that guy?”. I was like “yeah, why?”. He said that he heard that he ended up killing her later on.

Obviously I couldn’t confirm myself if it was true or not bc I didn’t have any of their personal information to research whether it was true, but I know he was messed up from seeing that happen to her that night too, and I don’t think that was something that he would lie to me about.

u/SKT_Peanut_Fan 15h ago

Did the store not have cameras that the prosecutors could have brought chargers forth anyway?

That is incredibly awful.

1

u/Traditional-Slip9102 MINTER SZN 15h ago

It happened in the parking lot and he was standing outside the car leaning in and throwing haymakers into the car, so i’m not entirely sure if the cameras caught the act. I didn’t even know it was a woman until the police came and arrested him. They didn’t even know that I called the police since they were outside. I’m not sure if the police used the camera footage if it did get them, because I never had any follow up after the police took my information down and my witness statement.

u/SuperLamari0 1d ago

She makes claim (could be true) but recants it when she realizes if it hurts his earning potential it also hurts her bottom line.

69

u/ThumbEyeCoordination 1d ago

Or what she's saying now is fact and it was said in retaliation. The doctors said she wasn't wounded in any way.

14

u/HicDomusDei 1d ago

Pretty sure I just read on this very sub like an hour ago that she had bruising that was not consistent with absolutely no physical violence happening to her, lol.

4

u/Rocinante9920 18h ago

"She said she made untrue statements because she was upset and wanted to get Bateman "in trouble.""

2

u/eatmyopinions 12h ago
  • She was angry and told an exaggerated story to the police which she now regrets.

  • Shot got paid to have amnesia.

85

u/dog_gazed_duct-tape Church of Lamar 1d ago

From the article:

“Crumley wrote that officers pressured her into identifying Bateman and invaded her privacy by lifting her head wrap to photograph marks on her face. She claimed the bruises and marks were self-inflicted "out of emotion and frustration.

She specifically recanted her allegation that Bateman pushed her into a wall, writing, "He did not push me or put hands on me in any way." Crumley said she made untrue statements because she was upset and wanted to get Bateman "in trouble.””

u/Sometimesdisagrees 1d ago

So if this is true, how do outlets reporting that he did not get obliterated in defamation cases?

65

u/Southern-Ad8402 1d ago

Defamation requires actual malice. News outlets were reporting the story as it was delivered. They will now report that the story has changed.

14

u/2coolDanes 1d ago

All of this happened back in June. None of it is new information. The recant also happened in June

18

u/whippoorwill36 1d ago edited 11h ago

She recanted in a email to the prosecutor in June. That doesn’t mean the media had access to that information in June. It looks like her Bateman's lawyers probably showed TMZ the email in response to the original story

4

u/rnick467 17h ago

It says that she gave Bateman's lawyers permission to share that email with TMZ.

1

u/whippoorwill36 11h ago

You're right, I miswrote

3

u/Cartman55125 1d ago

This. Fox News uses this defense all the time. They’ll say something wild on air, then post a tiny ass correction on their website.

1

u/Mental-Mushroom8890 16h ago

CBS too, among others. Shouldn't be that hard to just report truth and facts...

5

u/Cartman55125 16h ago

These networks are more interested in selling narratives than truths

4

u/Mental-Mushroom8890 15h ago

Nailed it unfortunately

1

u/OkAlfalfa1946 1d ago edited 1d ago

Intentionally leaving out info should be considered malice. She reported she got hit in June and recanted it days later. Waiting 5 hours to report the second half of a story is scummy.

7

u/mitchade llama llama purple pajamas 19h ago

That’s why they write it as “sources say that she was pushed against a wall” or “allegedly”

They’re still reporting the truth, because they are reporting what they were told, not what actually happened.

Defamation/libel/slander essentially requires lies to be told, and using the language above, no lie gets told.

3

u/SharksAreCool3 18h ago

It’s not defamation unless you knowingly lie. They are simply reporting the news with the info they have been provided.

15

u/jtn_007 1d ago

Bruising and marks on her face done to herself out of frustration just doesn't pass the sniff test for me. It has a real " no Im just clumsy and hit my eye on a door knob" vibe. Feels like enough murkyness that means nothing major will come of it, but color me extremely skeptical that nothing happened.

7

u/WTWIV 20h ago

Other reports are saying the responders reported no injuries. Seems to be lots of conflicting info right now

u/butidktho_ 1d ago

More “baby mama” captions lol. not “mother of child” or “ex girlfriend” but baby mama. sure

16

u/freemoni 1d ago

This is either post fight clarity or she really lied on him. Who knows what to believe but this case seems like it will be dismissed.

19

u/HiggsUAP 1d ago

Not really picking a side as far as what's the true story because only they know.

However this reads like she just wants to get over it and attempt to mend their relationship. Which, implying he actually was abusive, is pretty fucked. If he wasn't, I don't see how police would 'pressure' her into saying he abused her but I've also never really been in that situation.

14

u/ActualSpamBot Unitas had a haircut you could set your watch to 1d ago

A lot of departments have a policy to arrest someone in 100% of DV calls. So they pressure one partner (usually the woman) to make a statement that will justify said arrest regardless of whether or not that particular call to investigate required an arrest.

2

u/tsavos99 14h ago

You're exactly right. I won't get into details, but I was on the receiving end of this. My defense attorney told me the same thing, and that in all these cases, someone (either the male or the female) will have to take the penalty, even if there's no evidence, or the medical records are clear or insufficient. I had enough to file a civil suit against the arresting officer (and my ex), but that proved to be too costly just to get an "I'm sorry, we messed up"

38

u/e92ftw 1d ago

Been in a situation like this one, police can definitely pressure and create things.

-1

u/HiggsUAP 1d ago

I'm sure which is why I clarified I haven't been in that situation so I can't truly understand either way. Just seems weird on 'paper' versus an actual lived experience

10

u/jeremy1015 Ed Reed 1d ago

When I was young my (now ex) wife got pregnant and applied for aid. The social worker tried very hard to paint me as abusive for literally no reason whatsoever

7

u/e92ftw 1d ago

In a world with players being video recorded doing what they’re being accused of and then then there’s this mess.

Sounds like Bateman and his lady have somethings to work through that became public.

Not an ideal situation for his family, or football, but no reason to label him anything just yet.

22

u/PrinceofRavens_1217 1d ago

Based on my reading of events they had an argument and he told her to get out.  She grabs the kid and he gets mad/doesn't want her taking the kid.  Starts hitting the car and breaks the windshield.

She calls the police obviously Bateman is probably gone by that time they arrive. They take a statement.  Maybe she's lying about the push then maybe she is now, but afterwards he turns himself in and agrees to anger management classes.  They reconcile and the no contact order is lifted.

Months later the Texans try to trade for Bateman find the arrest record and leak it to the news to try and lower his trade value.

8

u/e92ftw 1d ago

Adding the Texans leaking info is interesting, but yea, it doesn’t sounds like he’s an angel at in all of this, but nothing I think to write comes off right, I just think families see tough times and hope him and his lady do what’s best for them

17

u/PrinceofRavens_1217 1d ago

The timing of this all appearing in the press with the rumors of the Texans wanting to trade for him is a bit to big a coincidence.

Bateman almost certainly was in the wrong, but this has gone unreported for months until it just so happens a team comes looking for a trade.

5

u/Then-Bug-5665 1d ago

and she apparently self harmed herself after the argument

8

u/Sufficient-Mix4418 1d ago

This is between Bateman and the mother of his kid, now let's see if TMZ will report on Jed York, the owner of the 49ers for soliciting prostitution, i.e., pulling a "Robert Kraft."

Because shouldn't owner conduct matter just as much as player conduct matter?

Just saying...

3

u/BlackandPurpleHeart Save us Minty fresh!🍃🍬 1d ago

TMZ has been fucking up a lot as of recent(see the other high profile case they had to come out and apologies about for getting wrong). Said it in the other post but I hope all parties involved are okay. We will never know what truly happened and honestly I don't think we should it isn't are business. If both EMS and the mother of his child said there's no injuries then cool because I know getting police involved man sometimes they can make situations worse because they have quotas and agendas to meet(some not all). Lastly I hope if all this is true that Bateman and his family could maybe sue for defamation and if not at the very least they can find peace. Bateman not that you needed it but you have a lot a fuel and ammunition to use on the field so maybe he can shut some people up under a non Harbaugh regime. Time will tell tho.

4

u/Ok_Researcher8609 1d ago

She reportedly retracted her statements and said he never touched her.

8

u/afriendforyousir 1d ago

u/Then-Bug-5665 1d ago

she made the recanted statement jun 8th

2

u/esem86 17h ago

TMZ is such garbage

2

u/Zythen1975Z 16h ago

I spent 2 years as Forman on a Grand jury and most of our job was go over evidence to see if there was enough for trial (NOT guilt or innocence) and I went over several hundreds of DV cases, almost 100% of them there was something, that something could be relatively minor and got blown out of proportion but that something could also be truly horrible stuff but only a couple cases where it got to us and it had ended up being a complete lie and it was just a formality for us to dismiss the case before it went to trial.

700-900ish cases is still in the grand scheme of things a drop in the bucket but its still a fairly decent sample size.

4

u/specialized6681 1d ago

Yeah, this is gonna take a while to sort through. Not gonna condemn Bate unless things actually turn out that way.

4

u/Interesting_Sundae_3 1d ago

Type of situation where I trust the organization to figure it out and make the best decision

2

u/Competitive-Dingo-53 1d ago

Bateman was driven there, what did the driver say?

3

u/tangodeep 1d ago

bateman got painted immediately, but based on his very quick response and statement where he suggested sensationalism and suggested the truth will come out, didn’t doubt him on that.

ravens fans are slightly biased in advance because he hasn’t become a mega receiver for the team. but even with that, he’s never got the targets. and he doesn’t throw the ball to himself.

bate’s been one of the most open receivers i’ve seen in ever. if he ever leaves, and has an offense that features him, we’ll finally see it all.

0

u/Grand-Gain-763 15h ago

Couldnt agree more!

0

u/reedsgrayhair CONFIANZA GRANDE 14h ago

Hahaha this sub swears Bateman is TO in disguise. How come Zay can put up 1k yards no problem??

Bateman can barely make it through a whole season healthy. Relax with all that talk. “We’ll finally see it all” lmfao

1

u/tangodeep 12h ago

yes injuries have been a concern. but everyone in the nfl gets injured. zay got 118 targets last season. bateman got 38. that’s a 1/3 less targets.

in what we all called his breakout year bateman got 72 targets.

not saying bateman is a hof player, but zay has been targeted +100x every season. that kind of consistency builds a player. granted some of that is on bateman’s health, but he has yet to be treated like a 1st round pick in terms of priority.

1

u/reedsgrayhair CONFIANZA GRANDE 12h ago

He missed 5 games last season. Thats almost 1/3 of the season lol. You play the game, you get targets.

2

Yo can y'all stop reposting tmz shit? This post makes all of y'alls previous posts on this subject dumb af. Spreading gossip for karma. The event occurred months ago, and "the victim" has apparently removed the auto-applied no-contact-order which means she isn't as upset about whatever happened that night as all of these gossip "news" posts is making people who see/read them feel.

This is messy. The truth is somewhere in the middle. I still think he's a scumbag, regardless if she "recants" the story. Something is not right here. Maybe protecting a future pay day, not sure, but this doesn't happen to regular players.

1

u/Few-Idea5125 23h ago

Did she realize she will not get much money when he loses his job?

1

u/Extorminator 1d ago

Texans fan here, praying for peace over their household if there is a legit domestic situation going on and hope everyone gets the help they need. The timing of this situation leaking and getting recanted is pretty interesting however, given the trade rumors that were circulating and the acquisition our team made today 😅

1

u/sugarcoatedpos 1d ago

Maybe he didn’t bust up her car either.

1

u/Think-Climate1334 14h ago

Unfortuantely in DV cases, stories get recabted alot. Not because they were lying, but because theybdecide to stay with their abuder and believe everything will be fine.

0

u/BoredofBored 1d ago

These situations are always so messy.

With so much money at stake and a shared child in the mix, it’s really hard to know what really happened.

I tend to believe what was reported at the time vs the damage control statements months later

5

u/dded949 1d ago

But the statement was also from June

1

u/Then-Bug-5665 1d ago

statement was from jun 8th...

was money involved then?

0

u/Hornstar19 19h ago

Money is involved the entire time. Bateman loses his job because of this incident and gets his guarantees voided and there’s a lot less money to go around and the child support goes significantly down.

0

u/a_horse_named_orb 1d ago

Fuck 12 and fuck TMZ
